HT201077 Why can't I open a link to share an iPhoto album?

Someone sent me a link to share an iPhoto album, but I can't open it. It says it "may have been changed or deleted". But the sender swears it should be working fine.

A link can have several different scripts attached to it that supersede the normal behavior. These include actions that occur when you click (mouse down followed by mouse up) or when a mouse button is pressed on the link (mouse down) or when it is released over the link (mouse up). Usually the right-click > Open in New Tab/Window will bypass those.
However, in some cases, when you mouse over a link you may occasionally see that it has no destination address, or seems to point to the same page, or starts with javascript:. In these cases, the right-click operation fails because it copies that nonexistent or dysfunctional link instead of running the script attached to the link.

For your addressbook, export the files to vCard on the PowerMac, then bring them over to your Mac Pro. For your iPhoto, copy the Users -> yourname -> Pictures folder to your Desktop on the Mac Pro, and open iPhoto on the Mac Pro holding the command and option keys.  Select the library file from that Pictures folder and open it.  It should import all the pictures into iPhoto as part of the rebuild process.  Other PowerPC to Intel migration issues are covered here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295

  • Why can't i open a link to a PDF in a new tab?

I want to click on a link in an email i was just sent from my teacher after her seminar, which is supposed to open a PDF of info. But when I right click it and select, open in a new tab, only a blank page shows up! But, since i KNOW it must be a proper link, I tried around and found another way: if I select, "save link as", a window pops up and lets me save it as an adobe reader PDF file in my computer, which i can then open and read. Why?
I mean, what could be the problem? I have never had the problem before of not being able to right click something and select "open in a new tab", and have it work just that like, without the extra steps!

  • Just loaded v5.0. Why can I not open a link in the current tab as is usual?

Left click does nothing with hot links. Right click only allows me to open the page in a new tab or window.

Does this happen on all web sites, or only certain web sites?
If it is limited to certain web sites, can you give example URLs?
If it is on Sympatico.ca, see these threads:

  • Why can't I open a link from my e-mail

'''''bold text'''''This problem only started recently. I am running Firefox 3.6.17 and whenever I click on a link I get an error sound with the message: Windows cannot find (whatever the address is that I clicked on) please check your spelling and try again"...I'm pretty sure that's what it says, but why?
It sure would be nice if I could get an answer as soon as possible, because some of the things I click on don't have addresses so it's not like I can copy and paste them. Besides, it's a real nuisance.
    Thanks,
    Shannon

    I noticed this as well.
I think inform Apple of this as I did.
They need to fix a few early release issues as is expected.

  • Why can't TextEdit open more than 5 links at a time in Yosemite?

Why can't TextEdit open more than 5 links at a time in Yosemite? In the previous OS, I could highlight many links at a time, right click and then select "Open URL" to open the links in Safari. Now, if I select more than five links at a time (and sometimes with five links) it will only open the first five and TextEdit pops up with the alert, "The 'Open URL' service could not be used."
    I'm running 10.10.1 on a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2009), 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, 500 GB HD.
    TextEdit is Version 1.10 (319).

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • I just downloaded iOS 6 on my iPhone 4 and now can no longer open internet links that were texted to me.  Anyone else having the same problem?

I just downloaded iOS 6 on my iPhone 4 and now can no longer open internet links that were texted to me.  Anyone else having the same problem or know how to fix this?

The SMS links thing is highly annoying. You don't have to copy/paste however. You should see an icon like this: (>) to the right of the text bubble with the link. Tap on that, the in the screen that opens, tap "Visit".
Alternatively, you can tap twice directly on the link, then hold your finger down after the second tap.
Still unnecessarily difficult, but not as bad as copy/paste.
What I don't get is why can't I find any mention of this change or how to fix it (if even possible) elsewhere online?

  • Why can't I open .webloc files on my iMac 10.6.8?

I want to open files which have the extension <.webloc>.  The file reaches my iMac but I can't read it, it stays blank and just sits on my desktop.  I'm not sure but I think when I open 'Spotify' that has a <.webloc.> extension!

Well, I'm partially wrong in my statement. .webloc files do contain data in the data fork and the resource fork. From the Terminal.app you can read both forks. Let's list both forks in a .webloc file that is linked to this thread->
    [KSH_93u+]:Desktop $ ls -l "Why can't I open <.webloc> files on my iMac 10.6.8? .webloc"
    -rw-r--r--@ 1 mark  staff  267 Oct 23 08:11 Why can't I open <.webloc> files on my iMac 10.6.8? .webloc
    [KSH_93u+]:Desktop $ ls -l "Why can't I open <.webloc> files on my iMac 10.6.8? .webloc/..namedfork/rsrc"
    -rw-r--r--  1 mark  staff  494 Oct 23 08:11 Why can't I open <.webloc> files on my iMac 10.6.8? .webloc/..namedfork/rsrc
Both forks contain data. Now let's look at the data in both forks->
    data fork:
    [KSH_93u+]:Desktop $ cat "Why can't I open <.webloc> files on my iMac 10.6.8? .webloc"
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

    Hi sze wing,
Please tell us a bit more--what do you mean by "cannot use"? Do you get an error message? Or are files not syncing as you expect?
Have you double-checked to make sure that Mobile Link is on? Please see Acrobat Help | Mobile Link: open once, read anywhere for instructions on enabling Mobile Link, if it isn't already enabled.
If it is enabled, and things still aren't working as expected, please let us know what issue you're facing, including any error messages.
