HT201092 EAS Email Profile via Apple Configurator

Does anyone knows if it's possible on an iOS 8 device to switch off the option "Encryption by default" and keep the end user's encryption cert available? When this is done via Apple Configurator the cert disappears and Per Message option cannot be used.

I had the exact same problem and was deleting the profile manually...huge time waste.  Called the Apple support with another problem and they told me when the iPads are synced the last thing they do is put the profiles onto the iPad.
If your profile you have loaded onto the iPad already doesn't allow downloading apps and such, the profile already being on the iPad won't let you install apps.
So the solution is to do a double sync.  UNCHECK the profile that is on each iPad and do a quick sync to delete the profile.  Then get all apps ready and such including imagines/restore backup, then check the profile you want back on the iPad and do another sync.
Worked for me and saved TONS of time.

  • How can I reduce the amount of user prompts for Email setup in Apple Configurator?

I am working on deploying profiles via Apple's new Apple Configurator which allows me to install apps and settings exactly how I want them. My question pertains to the email setup where anything left blank in the payload gets prompted on the device for user input. Is there anyway to have the user only enter in their user name and password once and use that for the SMTP outgoing settings as well? I'd like to reduce the user interaction to a minimal.Currently they enter in their full name, email address, user name for incoming, password for incoming, and then user name AGAIN for outgoing (I checked the box for 'Outgoing password same as incoming'). Is there anyway to retain the username and avoid having the user enter it in twice?
If not, I can make do with how it is, but was rather curious if this is possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'll try this again starting it as new, but when I restored it before (after deleting all the apps and music off it) it didn't help.  Thanks for the suggestion!

  • Just bought ATV. hope http proxy setting will be in UI instead of via apple configurator

i just bought apple TV and loaded latest firmware 5.2.
from the knowledge base, understand that http proxy can be setup via apple configurator after ver 5.1.
it can only be installed in MAC.
i am really hope your developer team could bring the said function out to user interface instead of going through all the hassle.
looking forward for your early reply

Thanks for the idea. I had already thought about using aliases but that wouldn't stop the Application folder showing a looooooooooong list o applications. As I said, having things clear is just a crazy habit of mine. Now that I know the trick I will just "survive" having FCS applications in their default location. I know I'm the only one here doing things differently. It's just that I have never had that problem with any other application and it was turning me crazy.
By the way, if anyone would like to use aliases, using an underscore as the first characters help having things on top of the list. For instance, the alias "_Multimedia" would appear before "Adobe".

  • About Email setting through Apple Configurator 1.01

    Dear all,
Email function not work when I try make a profile for my school through apple configurator.  It is said " set on the device". But on the device, its in grey.  I can not input anything on it.  Any suggestions?
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Si

Are you supervising the devices or leaving them unsupervised within Configurator? If you supervise the devices, the users will not get prompted and it is left at a default value. It will only prompt the user when the devices are unsupervised.

  • Provisioning Profiles and Apple Configurator

I try to install a provisioning profile (a .mobileprovision file) using Apple Configurator and I find no way of importing it into Configurator.
Apples PDF "Deploying iPhone and iPad - Apple Configurator" says I can use provisionong profiles with Configurator.
    What am I doing wrong?

With this I can import configuration profiles (*.mobileconfig), but not the provisioning profile (*.mobileprovision).
The profile I am using is probably fine, as it is working in iTunes. It is used to enable enterprise Apps.

  • Cannot install apps via apple configurator 1.1

error message that apple configurator "can't install app", tooltip that "an unknown error message "install prohibited" was received from the device".
Computer is authorized, app is free (iwritewords free version), ipad is supervised.  Have tried multiple apps, clearing and restoring supervision, clearing and restoring apps from configurator.  same error everytime.
Trying to determine if it is viable to deploy iPads as childrens games stations in public library branches.

What a big huge hairy deal. I had the same problem and came here to find solutions. Based on what was said, this is what I tried and what worked for me...
Even though I had the setting to remove profiles that AC didn't install, I checked the profiles and the student restrictions profile that prevents installing apps was still on there. So I guess even though I'd unchecked it, AC didn't remove it. I consider that a bug. But I digress...
I manually removed every profile on the iPad directed excect the one that says it's supervised and then refreshed in AC. That worked. So I won't have to uncheck and recheck all apps (which I tried and didn't work for me) but I *WILL* have to manually remove that student restriction profile on every single device. Grrr!! I'm considering NOT putting that one back. The iTunes store is blocked in our district filter for students anyway. I can't imaging having to manually remove that profile on every device every time I want to add a new app or update. Insane.

  • Failure Enrolling iPads/iPhones in MDM via Apple Configurator

I'm having problems enrolling our loaner iDevices into our MDM server at my work. I'll start with the basic specs and then describe what happens.
We have a Mac Pro running Mavericks 10.9.4 and OS X Server 3.1.2.
I am using Profile Manager with 1 Enrollment Profile. It does not have any restrictions on devices with placeholders. Profile Manager is using a Code Signing Certificate. We are not currently using the Device Enrollment Program, or the Volume Purchase Program.
Now, the machine that is running Apple Configurator is an older iMac running Mavericks 10.9.5 with Apple Configurator version 1.6.
So, I plug in my 1st Generation loaner iPad Mini, and use the following Settings in Configurator:
I have a name entered, supervision on, a backup set to restore that organizes the position of the Apps that are installed, and three profiles.
         1. A Trust profile that is necessary to connect to the MDM server
         2. The Actual Enrollment Profile
         3. A Wi-Fi Network settings profile
Now, when I prepare the device, everything goes through just fine, except at the very end when it fails. The failure is a "MCInstallationErrorDomain 4001" error that looks like this:
It seems that it's complaining that the iPad isn't' activated. The weird thing though is that if I just go to the MDM website and enroll manually with the iPad, it goes through just fine. The problem just seems to be with Apple Configurator. Also, none of my Mac machines every have any problem enrolling.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    - Vincent

As it turns out the problem was the backup. I had made the mistake of attempting to restore an iPad 2 backup onto an iPad Mini. That does not work. I just selected do not restore backup and everything went through fine. I guess I'll just have to make a backup for each model of iPad.

  • Installing Apps (free and paid) via Apple Configurator?

    Background:
I'm a Mac novice (15+ years Windows background), so I'm probably missing something obvious - please bear with me.
We're running latest Mac OS (10.8.2) and latest iOS (6.1) iPads & iPhones).
I'm trying to set up a batch of iPhones & iPads for a business.  We'll have several with very similar profiles (e.g. Sales Rep1, Sales Rep 2 etc), and it looks like Apple Configurator is the tool do help with this.
First up - is there a basic user guide for this?  That tells me what I can and can't actually expect to be able to do with the configurator app?
Secondly - I'm led to believe I can use this to bulk install a load of apps (free and/or paid). I can see how to drag the apps into the configurator, but no matter what I do next, the apps don't install onto the device.  I hit apply / prepare / check out, whatever - nothing seems to do it.
So far I'm just playing with it to get my head around how it all works, so the only apps I've been trying this with are free ones (e.g. Adobe Reader / Chrome).
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks

FYI - I figured it out.  All you have to do is highlight the app you want removed and then go up to edit and delete from there.

  • HT201334 Installing an enrolment profile using Apple Configurator gives a 401 error...

I'm using Mountain Lion with OS X Server and configurator doesn't let me import the mdm profile created using profile manager. Any ideas?

Err..  disregard this. It turns out I hadn't authorized the Apple ID I was using to install the free apps on the computer I was setting up the iPads on. The solution was to go into iTunes, then Store > Authorize This Computer

  • Apple Configurator: The configuration for your iPad could not be downloaded from organisation . Invalid Profile.

    Good afternoon,
I am really struggling with a deployment of 10 iPad Minis.
The iPads are brand new and I have downloaded and installed Apple Configurator onto our Apple Air laptop.
I have configured Apple Configurator in the following way:
    Under Prepared:
    Settings
Name is ticked with 'Number sequentially starting at 1'.
Supervision is ticked to on, Allow devices to connect to other Macs is also ticked.
Update iOS is set to "When update is available". Erase before installing is ticked.
Restore is set to "Don't restore backup".
No profiles are listed in the profiles section.
    Apps
I have copied in some appropriate apps.
    Setup
Skip: Restore, Passcode, Siri, Touch ID, Apple Pay, App Analytics all ticked.
I have not configured Device Enrollment.
In "Configure Settings..." Device Enrollment is not configured.
After preparing my iPads, they all connect and prepare correctly. When I select any iPad and unlock it, the following happens:
    Hello, slide to setup
    Select language, UK selected
Select Your Country or Region, UK selected
Choose a Wi-Fi Network, correct network selected and authenticated
    Location Services: Enabled
Configuration, "<organisation> can automatically configure your iPad". Apply Configuration or Skip Configuration. Apply selected.
Configuration, "The configuration for your iPad could not be downloaded from <organisation>. Invalid Profile.
Apple Configurator is showing no errors, have tried Supervise>Reset, makes no difference.
Have skipped configuration and erased iPad before trying again, same problem.
Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

  • Apple configurator & Proxy servers

We have an iMac that is managing 16 iPads via Apple Configurator, we are also running a service on a Server 2008 called AirCatch, this allows the iPads to send files to selected folders on the server via an internal email. This all works well when the proxy server is disabled but when enabled the proxy blocks CardDAV from displaying the folders as contacts.
I have gone in to the Global HTTP Proxy profile and entered the proxy server and port and ticked the 'Allow bypassing proxy to access captive networks' hoping this would allow local traffic to bypass the proxy.
This also fails to work and am now stumped as to what to try next, does anyone have any suggestions please,
    Thanks

Hi.  Didi you ever find an answer to this question?
I am configuring a suite of iPads 2s. iOS 8.2.   I can configure in the prepare screen and assign profiles but they do not appear in the Supervise tab (so cannot refresh.  They also ignore the option to display the device name on the Lock Sreen.
I would be grateful for any help or advice.

  • IPad golden image distribution on Apple Configurator

    Hi All,
Appreciate if someone could shed some light on this.
We are currently using Apple Configurator to supervise iPads using a "golden image" created from the master iPad.
As our company expands, there is a need to supervise iPads on other sites using their own Macbooks.
In this case, we are wondering if there is a way to distribute the iPad "golden image" to the other sites, so
they could use the exact same iPad settings as ours.
    Thanks for any input

  • Apple Configurator Web Content Filtering Question

I manage a few K12 classroom sets of iPods via Apple Configurator and I have a younger classroom that wants to limit web access to a few sites and I have been trying to adjust the profile in Apple Configurator to make this happen but it doesn't work.
I open the profile and go to the Web Content Filter option and add a payload to only allow specific websites and enter the URLs and apply the updated profile to the supervised device but I can still get anywhere I want in Safari. I have tried this process for an hour now to no avail and can't seem to find anything online.
The only thing I can think of is that this option to limit to specific sites is only available to iOS 7(?). We own quite a few of the 4th generation iPod Touches that are obviously denied this upgrade and so am looking for any help or validation that this option in Apple Configurator is available only to iOS 7 supervised devices???
    Thanks.

Here is my answer as per an email from Chris C. a Systems Engineer for Apple Education:
That was a new feature added with Apple Configurator 1.4 and works with iOS 7 supervised devices. I will research this a bit more to see if there is a way around this to work with iOS 6 devices and will follow up with you shortly.
I understand that you cannot always support "older" operating systems but am truly frustrated with Apple's lack of support on iOS 6 devices when this is what so many K12 schools will have...

  • Download Apple Configurator

Hi, having some annoying trouble with trying to download and install APPLE CONFIGURATOR
Already have a VPP account and Apple ID which is linked to the VPP account.
All i want to do is download Apple configurator, that's all.
So I go to the APP STORE where it tells me to sign in before I download, once I sign in it tell me "Your apple UD can't be Used in This Store" Due to the apple ID being associated with a VPP account"
So i choose the option "Go to VPP for Education"
I then 'placed an order' for Apple Configurator via the VPP portal... Now what!?
When I go to purchase history this is what I get
    Dec 10, 2013
    MGQVTGN4X7
    Apple Configurator
    Mac App
    1
    Free
    Managed Licenses
    NO download link or anything
This is fustrating am I missing a step here?

Because software update 5.1 cut of my apple tv's network connection, my apple tv is dead now. And, i don't have a Mac.
    On apple's support page, apple says;
"Apple TV Software Update 5.1 allows your Apple TV to install a configuration profile from Apple Configurator to configure Wi-Fi and Ethernet corporate networks.
    Products Affected
Apple Configurator, Apple TV (2nd generation), Apple TV (3rd generation)
    Additional Information
Installing a configuration profile requires a USB to Micro-USB cable (sold separately). Please verify that your Apple TV has the correct software version installed. You will also need to have the latest version of Apple Configurator."
As i said, i lost my apple tv lost network connection so i can't work it to configure it on it. I just have windows based pc.
if you (apple) don't care abaout this problem my apple tv will be a brick on the table.

  • Apple configurator + wireless management

Can I manage an Apple Configurator ipad cart of 32 ipads wirelessly using Apple server?

    Hi Simon,
A device must be Supervised in order to take advantage of all of the restrictions available to MDMs. To the best of my knowledge, Apple Configurator is the only tool that can "Supervise" a device. Once Supervised, then an MDM like Profile Manager can take advantage of all the restrictions and settings available for wireless management.
(from page 19 of the iOS 6 Education Deployment Guide)
Additional settings and restrictions are available to Supervised devices running iOS 6 or later. Once a device is Supervised these restrictions can be configured via configuration profiles that are delivered via Apple Configurator, MDM or manual download. These restrictions include:
Single App Mode - Locks user into a single, specified application. If powered down, the specified application will launch at boot. Consider using MDM to enable and disable this setting for dynamic control.
Global Network Proxy for HTTP - Routes most all device web traffic through a specified proxy server or setting. This setting is applied across all Wi-Fi SSIDs and cellular networks. Install this setting via Apple Configurator in a non-removable profile for strongest enforcement. Consider using a PAC file for greater flexibility with this setting.
Allow Removing Apps - Disabling prevents users from removing apps from the home screen.
Allow Use of Game Center - Disabling removes Game Center icon from the home screen. Use this setting in conjunction with disabling both Allow multiplayer gaming and Allow adding Game Center friends to completely disable Game Center on supervised devices.
Allow iMessage - Disabling removes Messages icon from the home screen.
Allow iBookstore - Disabling prevents access to the iBookstore while allowing use of the iBooks app for reading books and PDFs.
Allow iBookstore Sexually Explicit Content - Allow prevents access to adult content from the iBookstore.
Allow Configuration Profiles Installation - Disabling prevents users from manually installing configuration profiles directly on the device, which includes enrolling in an MDM server.
Is there another way to "Supervise" a device without Apple Configurator?
    ~Joe
