  • Camera for final cut pro

    Hi
I have about £2000 UK pounds to spend on a video camera for producing footage to be edited in Final Cut pro.
What is the best type of camera to get for quality and ease of importing and editing?
Not sure between tape and hard disk etc.
    Thanks

I would agree withthe poster 'G' above that it depends on what you want to do. I would certainly follow his advice.
Here's what I did and what I have no done.
    I JUST bought a brand new PANASONIC AG-HVX-200 because I want :
    * 4:2:2 colour space so i can get more out of the colour correction tools I have such as COLOR.app and coloritsa etc (HDV doesn' cut it for me at the moment). I would highly recommend this camera!.
    • I want the 720P/25 and a 1080P/25 with a codec that was not MPEG2 (such as HDV).SO I now have DVCPROHD to use and in a nutshell it is marvellous. I want the CINEA GAMMA and aother functions that I could not imagine on my HVR-Z1P (See below).
LAstly I had purchased a new SONY HVR-Z1P HDV camera 16 months ago for use as 1080i/50 for most of the work I wanted to do. I soon found the restrictions as above in the codec. I was wanted about HDV but pressed ahead.
HDV is a great format for most however I am about to put the hardly used HVR-Z1P on EBAY now that I have the PANASONIc new HVX-200, which if it is in your budget, I would highly recommends - get a 16GB P2 card ad you're set. Works flawlessly with FCP 6.
As poster 'G" points out, you can go to consumer based cameras that will work ok for you but they are restricted in the sense that you "GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR".
ALso AVCHD H.264 based cameras take a great 720P shots for the holiday trip but these are too not to my liking even though my wife has a SONY XACT HD2... which is great to pull out and spray around when you wanna gun and run.
Summary- if you know what you want to do (your goals) and you want to take advantage of FCS 2 and other tools and etc, the camera is a another piece of the toolkit but a VERY importat one. fwiw

  • WHAT IS THE BEST VIDEO CARD FOR FINAL CUT PRO and MOTION?

    Hello folks,
I have found a lot of posts regarding all kinds of troubles with ATI READEON X1900 video card.
When I talked to people from Apple, trying to decide which videocard to install in new MAC PRO, Ati Radeon X1900 was the one they did recommand for FCP and Motion. So are there any other cards which would actually suite better for Final Cut Studio2, or is Ati Radeon X1900 really the one to go with?
    Thanks for any suggestions,
    Kootenay

Techreport has some more information on the new 55nm Radeon (X3000) which should be another "mid November" releases, as well as an updated 8800 GT that still is under wraps.
So seems Intel and everyone else is trying to get new products out before the end of the year, if possible.
Drivers for graphics controllers may or may not need the work that sometimes seems to plague companies.

  • What is the best Youtube video converter for Final Cut Pro?

I want to keep the quality of the video and import into Final Cut Pro to edit. What is the best way to get the video in the correct format?

    I've used FastestTube
    http://fastesttube.kwizzu.com/
usually this allows you to download the files as MP4 files in either 360p or 720p, or as FLV files
I would download as 720p MP4 & convert in compressor to prores, etc for FCP.

  • HD video storage for Final Cut Pro HD suite

I'm looking at setting up a Final Cut Pro HDCAM online suite, and I need to know what RAID system would be best for video storage. My reseller has told me that SANman systems are much better than Apple Xserve RAIDs, because of the data transfer rates. Can anyone tell me what systems they are running and what data rates are needed?

    Hi,
Apple Xserve RAIDs are great but not cheap. Never heard of SANman, though!
Depends on whether you want a cheeper system to start with or ... HD uncompressed (single stream) needs sustained data rates of 200 MB/s. We have an HD system running OK (Media100HD, not FCP, though, but it shouldn't make a difference) with 4 large ULTRA ATA discs, striped with a cheap controller. The whole storage solution (1600 GB) costs less than $1500. Write back if you need the details.

  • Cameras for Final Cut Pro.

So I have a JVC camcorder which shoots the HD files as .TOD files and a Sony AVCHD cam that saves as .MTS. Its a pain to convert these files using MPEG Streamclip every time. I shoot a pro wrestling show that was just picked up for television and leaves me with just two days to edit the shows. Converting all that footage usually takes a few hours out of one of those days. So I am looking for a camera that shoots footage and saves it as .MOV so it would go directly into Final Cut. My budget is kinda low at about 400-500. Thanks!

There are several ways to get edit-ready footage, but none of them are cheap...  My personal favorite is the Ki-Pro from AJA systems which will transcode the footage (from qualifying cameras) to ProRes 422 (in a 10-bit colorspace) to hard drive or CF cards on-the-fly. It can also cross-convert on-the-fly so you can match formats from dissimilar cameras. And working with 4:2:2 footage is always nice...
If you are on a Mac Pro, I can't see how the Log and Transfer could be taking hours. I had to bring in some DSLR re-shoots on a feature last year and my system was always waiting on me.

  • Compatible cameras for FINAL CUT PRO 5.x available in latin america?

Hi! So I have a big problem, none of the camera models mentioned in the compatibility area of the final cut webpage are available where I live. Is it true that no other cameras are compatible? There's an entire series of cameras SONY DCR-HC42, 46, 52 etc. that are for sale here and not mentioned there. Also true of old JVC and Panasonic models. Please help me figure this out, I have to buy a camera to capture some video I have on MINIDV onto the final cut I have and have to know I'm not buying a camera that won't work.
    thanks
    rdl

Thanks. That's what I thought. Plus, models available in latin america are apparently not the same as those available in the US and Europe, and my suspicion is they haven't been tested.

  • Can't open Sony PXW-X70 (.mxf) video files for Final Cut Pro X or iMovie, please help!

    Hi there--
Just got the Sony PXW-X70 and I can't seem to open the .mxf or even successfully transcode the video files into something that can be read on the mac. (Running 10.9.5)
I downloaded Brorsoft Video Converter for Mac and the Ackrock Video Converters and neither of them work. They just are able to import the audio but not the video portion.
Very frustrated here, any advice? Thanks!

The clips from the X70 are not XAVC-S, but XAVC (sometimes called XAVC-L) and the plugin from Sony linked above is not compatible with them. I also don't recommend those sketchy third party conversion options. Still, as of mid-December, the best options for getting Sony X70 XAVC clips into FCPX are:
    1. Use the free Sony Catalyst Browse to convert them (one at a time, although you can queue up multiple files without waiting for the previous one to finish)
    2. Use the $200 Sony Catalyst Prepare software
    3. Shoot AVCHD until there is a solution from Sony - supposedly Sony is at work on a plugin for FCPX to allow native ingest/editing of these clips. I've read that it should arrive very soon, but we'll see.
I'm using option 1 - $200 is ridiculous, and I didn't buy a camera with 10-bit 4:2:2 and a strong codec to shoot in AVCHD
If it's any consolation, Avid and even Sony Vegas will not import them either.

  • Which is the best video converter for Final Cut Pro 7?

Hi, I am using Fincal Cut Pro 7.0.3 and I am looking to find the most compatible, most efficient video converter to work with my FCP 7, I need import vidoe file formats such as AVI, MPEG, MTS to edtiting in FCP 7, and I am having hard time to converting them, even I managed to convert them and imported them into FCP they need rendering again and again in FCP and that wasted me tons to precisous time.
Any suggestions?  Thank you so very much!
    Kevin

Compressor.  Second, I would choose Episode.  But then MPEG Streamclip is very usefull when convert from many of the MPEG formats.  Keep in mind that formats such as those you listed are merely wrappers; the codec contained within could be one of dozens of codec, some of which may not convert well.

  • Flash Video Exporter plugin for FInal Cut Pro

Does anybody know how to install the Flash Video Exporter
plugin for Final Cut Pro so it shows up as an option in FCP?
I want to create FLVs directly from FCP.

This is on the intro page:
Note: You must have Flash MX Professional 2004 installed on

  • 2012 mac mini i7 or imac i5 for video editing with final cut pro 7 ?

    Hello,
I am totally new to mac world.
I read some posts but not clear to me if better a mac mini 2012 i7 2,3Ghz and video card  Intel HD Graphics 4000 or an imac 2012 i5  2,7GHz and NVIDIA GeForce
    GT 640M   with 512MB of GDDR5 memory.
The software is final cut studio 3 from final cut pro 7.
So better more performance in the l cpu or  in the videocard?
    Thank you
    Gianni

If the Mac Mini has not had its hardware changed since the release of Mountain Lion, July 25, 2012, Final Cut Pro 7 is reported as not working in some situations under Mountain Lion.  If it has been hardware changed by Apple on or after July 25, 2012, you won't be able to run Lion, and may not be able to run all Final Cut Pro 7's features.  The two entries for Final Cut Pro 7:
    http://roaringapps.com/app:4449
    and
    http://roaringapps.com/app:4909
Appear to conclude it launches, but there must be something that doesn't work.  There are some issues both with Lion and Mountain Lion with Final Cut Studio 3:

My advice, check the Final Cut forums to see what people have experienced with both.  And make sure to follow specs exactly.

  • New Canon EOS Movie Plug-in-E1 for Final Cut Pro

Just thought your would like to know. From canonrumors.com
    http://www.canonrumors.com/2011/04/canon-updates-e1-plugin-for-fcp/
Canon today announces the latest update for EOS Movie Plug-in-E1 for Final Cut Pro – the company’s custom-developed software application that provides quicker and easier editing of EOS Movie footage in Apple’s Final Cut Pro software suite.
Launching to coincide with the start of the 2011 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show in Las Vegas, EOS Movie Plug-in-E1 for Final Cut Pro version 1.2 will make the importing of EOS Movie files even easier, allowing users to transfer files from any folder, without needing to mirror the folder structure on the camera itself.
The update also enables smoother importing from Canon’s EOS 7D, EOS 5D Mark II and EOS-1D Mark IV models, allowing users to import footage without requiring the THM file generated by the camera.
Originally launched in February 2010, EOS Movie Plug-in-E1 for Final Cut Pro is designed to quickly and seamlessly convert EOS Movie footage from Canon’s leading range of EOS DSLR cameras to Apple’s high-quality ProRes 422 codec. The plug-in allows users to convert footage at approximately twice the speed of Apple’s standard conversion, creating a smoother workflow for the rapidly growing number of videographers shooting HD video content on DSLR cameras.
EOS Movie Plug-in-E1 for Final Cut Pro version 1.2 will be available to download for free from 25th April 2011.

And I just spent over an hour yesterday explaining to a client how utterly essential it was to maintain the exact folder structure for proper log & transfer:/
If I say that once a day to students, I say it a thousand times.
On top of that I just started Carbon Copy Clone today with all my updates in my editing lab. Not the end of the world but it's a little time consuming on 80 stations. Oh well.

  • Panasonic camcorder HDC-TM90 any experience using Pavtube Video Converter with Final Cut Pro X

Does anyone have any experience using Pavtube Video Converter with Final Cut Pro X for Panasonic camcorder HDC-TM90 shooting in 1080 P 60 ( mts file extension)

Don't use these generic offbrand converters to get footage into FCP X. they re-encode your video and cause loss of quality. If FCP X cannot import your video then use a utility that simply re-wraps it into a quicktime file with no transcoding or loss. I prefer Clipwrap which works great and is updated frequently but there are free alternatives like Media Converter or Rewrap.
But version 10.04 of FCP X should import it directly from camera as long as the folder structure is complete and you are not trying to merely import it from single mts files.

  • Can't capture from my cannon video camera to Final Cut or iMovie.

Hi. I can't capture from my cannon video camera to FInal Cut or iMovie. ANy help would be greatly appreciated. I don't think my iMac is recognizing the camera. I was told I don't need a firewire, that USB would work if I'm just capturing. If I need a firewire what kind (the one I was sold didn't fit). I'm getting an "unable to locate external device message". Not sure of next steps to try. Thanks.

Forget USB for capturing from tape. USB is only for stills from a Tape Based camera.
    You require a firewire cable.
The camera connection end will be four pin and the Mac is nine pin to the 800 port.
Ask for a 9 to 4 pin firewire cable. Sounds like you have the wrong one as they can also be 4 to 4 or 4 to 6 pin!!
Also you will need the correct Easy Setup in FCE so FCE talk to the camera, exactly which one depends on what type of footage is being sent to FCE from the camera during capture.
