HT201178 Bluetooth keyboard pairing woes

My keyboard used to be paired to a computer. That computer is now gone. How do I get the keyboard into discovery mode?

I found the answer in this thread...
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2693201
Basically, hold down the powerkey on the wireless keyboard while you are running the bluetooth setup assistant.
I had to do it twice since there is really no way of knowing whether you are turning the keyboard on or off.
Good luck.

    What specific KB?
    Do you know it works?

  • WHITE bluetooth keyboard pairing

I just was given an older model bluetooth keyboard (with the 10-key), and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to put it into discoverable mode. I've changed batteries, tried to reset it, but I can't figure out how to get it paired with my Macbook Air.
    Any help? Ideas?
    PLEASE!!

It is an older version of Bluetooth on that keyboard and the firmware cannot be updated. It is not compatible with any iOS based devices.

  • The bluetooth keyboards pairs, but I can't type.

The blue tooth keyboards do pair, but after that no keystrokes are recognized by the Mac.I have tried with three different bluetooth keyboards with the same results, so it's not the keyboard itself. Mouse works though. I have tried to pair the keyboard again, but with the same results. I am currently on iOS Mountain Lion. Also Mouse Keys are disabled, so that's not the issue. Anyone experienced the same and found a solution?

    Hello:
I reread your post.  OS X 10.8 and iOS are different.  What are you trying to pair the KB with?  I also did not ask if the keyboards are Apple devices......
Since tyou said you have tried with three keyboards, it obviously is not a faulty KB.  One other thing I can think of to try requires a working KB (reset the PRAM).
You might also trash a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and restart.
Is one of the keyboards new (and Apple branded)?  If so, I would take it to an Apple store and talk to someone at the genius bar.

  • A1016 Apple Bluetooth Keyboard Pairs, but will not work

I have one of those A1016, 1st generation, Apple Bluetooth keyboards,
had it since late 2008, that will pair via bluetooth setup assistant, I
can enter the passkey on the keyboard and I get the "congratulations
your computer is now setup to use your bluetooth keyboard, message but,
as soon as it is paired the keyboard accepts no input.
The problem started after I left the keyboard in my car overnight, and
switched on, I believe, while the only macbook I had ever used the
keyboard with was with me, 30 miles away. If I had not been in an
extreme hurry at the time I probably would have thought to take the
    batteries out of the keyboard.
The battery level, currently, is at about 79%. The light on the caps
lock key does not come on, but the green light on the on switch,
underneath the keyboard, does seem to work, when I first switch it on
that light blinks for a period of time.
Incidentally, the keyboard has been in this condition for a long time,
now, and I deleted com.apple.Bluetooth.plist many times and I repaired
permissions, even with "applejack" and with "iceclean", many times since
    the problem started.

Hi Barry, thanks for the quick reply. I am not familiar with "favorites" for BT, but I checked, and of the several BT devices I have re-paired, only the keyboard is NOT a "favorite". Odd thing is, I have no idea how to make a device a "favorite" (or not)! Don't know how it happened for the other devices.
The Apple support document TA2137 says to click on the "add to favorites" button, but I see no such button and no way to make a BT device a "favorite". I have no idea how my other BT devices got so designated. I think I've applied all software updates.
Can you help me on setting that BT "favorite" status?
    Thanks,
    Dave

  • Bluetooth keyboard pairing repeated requests after mavericks update dec 20? ogitech MX5500 eventually connected but I keep getting repeated bluetooth pairing requests and it is driving me mad! Please Help! Anyone else suffering this?

This just started after Maverick update installed Dec 20.frustrated and annoyed that apple would release an update that makes apple users lifes such a misery . Anyone else suffering same problems. I can switch bluetooth off that  makes using multiple screens difficult which is why I bought this $ 2800 top spec Mac retina 15 inch pro in the first place. I'm using Logitech MX5500 keyboard. Logitech MX1000 mouse works fine
Any suggestions or solutions much appreciated and hopefully apple gets their act together..

I am having this same issue - where I work, we use bluetooth trackpads. If my boss tries to connect his wireless bluetooth keyboard to his computer, I get the request on my machine every single time. The "Bluetooth Troubleshooting" article does not address any part of blocking requests, bluetooth security settings, or anything related to this issue at all, really. I do not believe there is currently any fix or setting that CAN resolve either of our problems, but I'm hoping that posting this at least puts the issue out there for hopefully somebody who can address this issue to see.

  • Bluetooth Keyboard Pairs But Doesn't Work!

    Hi all,
I powered on my Mac and went to add the keyboard. It then found the keyboard and went through the process of pairing, showing the keys on the kyboard to tap to finish the process. I did this and then the pairing was complete and all looked fine.
I tried to type something on the keyboard and nothing would work, not in any program.
What is stranger... even though I could pair the keyboard by pressing the right keys, when I opened Keyboard Viewer, nothing is shown for any key apart from a few such as command and alt.
Also, the volume keys work absolutely fine.
I went to see if things were looking OK from a bluetooth perspective and indeed, they are! The keyboard shows up as being connected and looks fine, I have even been into system profiler and it seems to know exactly what keyboard is connected.
Has anyone come across this issue before?
By the way, I have been using a PC keyboard and mouse (both are wired) on this machine since I bought it and it has been fine, I'm not sure if this would have any impact on things. While I am trying to use the wireless keyboard I am leaving the wired mouse connected, though I have tried without and it still does the same thing, nothing! The batteries are fresh in the keyboard too.
Any help with pointing me in the right direction here would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Bluetooth Keyboard Pairing Error

    Hello,
I have a CipherLab 1660 bluetooth barcode scanner that is recognized as a keyboard by the TouchPad's Bluetooth Settings application when the scanner is configured in HID mode. The TouchPad prompts me to choose a PIN, which I do (I've tried various combinations of one to four numerals). Then I scan the PIN on the barcode scanner just like I do when I'm pairing it with any other device. Unfortunately, on the TouchPad I get an "Unable to connect" error in red above the device list as soon as I scan the barcode to confirm the PIN at the very end.
On the barcode scanner I've tried SPP Master mode (which makes the TouchPad fail to recognize the device as a keyboard, and instead it shows up as "Other") and SPP Slave mode (which uses a pre-configured PIN of 0000 but still doesn't work with the same error).
Any ideas? It would be great to get this working, and the scanner pairs just fine with other devices (iPad, computers, iPhone, etc.)

Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

    Hi Barry,
I've contacted Applecare and indicated the problem. I've mentioned the fact that I also tested the same wireless keyboard with a MacBook I've got and I had similar symptom while attempting to pair both.
Suddenly the pairing worked, hence I'm suspecting a H/W issue with my keyboard, they agreed and initiated a procedure to get this keyboard replaced.
Beside that, they confirmed that disabling the "Allow bluetooth devices to wake this computer" feature may lead to unexpected behavior, hence their recommendation was to keep it enabled.
I'll also take a spare wired keyboard from my office, in case this problem happens again. With a wired keyboard I would have been able to plug it and enter my password to unlock the screen saver, instead of rebooting the iMac.
    Thanks for your assistance.

  • Bluetooth keyboard pairing issues

HI, recently my wireless keyboard got disconnected to my IMac and now I can't pair it. I have read various posts on the subject and tried many remedies including battery change, holding power button whilst entering code multiple times, removing com.applebluetoothexchange file and restart and none have worked. i am only being asked to enter a 6 digit code however and lots of the posts refer to an 8 digit code.
any thoughts, help, advice or counselling would be warmly received.

Which Apple wireless keyboard are you using?
See this Apple doc -> iOS: Apple Wireless Keyboard compatibility
The original Apple Wireless Keyboard, introduced in 2003, is not compatible:
Apple Wireless Keyboard (2003): Features a white case and uses four AA batteries.
If you're using a compatible keyboard, does it pair with your Mac? Try turning it off and then back on and then pairing it again.

  • HT201178 Bluetooth keyboard controls iPad?

I would like to use my apple wireless keyboard with my iPad. It works great when I'm typing notes or getting my finals furnished but I want to be able to navigate through the iPad with the keyboard. Like, go to the home screen or choose an app, or use the arrow keys to scroll through options. Possible?? If not, which keyboard would allow me to do that? If a keyboard wouldn't allow me to do that then which accessory would?

Check out this site http://decadentwaste.net/decadentwaste/2011/03/navigate-using-a-bluetooth-keyboa rd-on-your-ios-device it tells you how to set up your keyboard to do what you stated in your question. It also gives you all the hot keys that are very helpful.

  • Logitech bluetooth keyboard stopped pairing w/ MacBookPro

My Logitech K760 bluetooth keyboard paired/worked great until roughly June 2014, but ever since then it won't fully pair.  When I attempt to connect it seems successful until the end of the process when you're asked to enter a series of numbers to fully connect the keyboard.   It either keeps spinning and never connects, or after a minute it times out and says the pairing attempt was unsuccessful.
I've had multiple tech support calls with Logitech and the best they can tell me is that there must have been a "program update" on Apple's end that changed the keyboard's ability to connect.  I CAN connect just fine to my iphone 5 and my ipad, so I know the keyboard is fully operational.
My MBP is mid-2009 running on OS X 10.6.8 (I'd previously upgraded to Mountain Lion and my hard drive failed. When serviced by Genius Bar I was told not to upgrade past Snow Leopard on my replacement hard drive since it wouldn't be able to handle a higher OS, and the upgrade is actually what caused my hard drive failure).
Any suggestions or idea would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

I got the same issue with my son's imac today. Tried everything as you have, inc pairing with my macbook. It recognised the keyboard as an other device but would not pair

  • Sending an iMessage from my iPad using bluetooth keyboard?

I have the Apple bluetooth keyboard paired with my iPad Air.  I've been using it in iMessage lately and unlike iMessage on OSX Mavericks, pressing the "return/enter" key does not send the message.  Is there a setting that needs to be changed so that my "return/enter" key sends the message?  Or is there a keyboard shortcut that sends the message?  Thanks!

I highly doubt if there will be a solution for this request under Apple iOS roadmap.  I've asked the same request as you are.  No solution up to this point.

  • Lost connection to Bluetooth keyboard

2 weeks old Intel mini. Logitech diNovo Edge Bluetooth keyboard paired just fine with the mini.
Have not used the system for a few days. Mini goes to sleep when not in use.
Today, the connection to the keyboard was lost. Trying to open Bluetooth preferences crashes the System Preferences application. Force-quit System preferences (had to do it twice). Turn BT off and on again. Re-try. Same thing: System Preference crashes.
Had to restart the mini (which I HATE). Re-paired BT keyboard. Also got a weird notice that my Network location was damaged and could not be loaded (re-created network location). No idea if this is related to the BT problem.
Hope it does not happen again, but I don't LIKE it. Any ideas?
    TIA.

Please click and use Apple's Bluetooth Troubleshooting to re-establish the connection.

  • My bluetooth keyboard (Macnus 3.0) is recognised by my iMac but will  not pair?  I have paired it with my iPad using code 8310 but it still will not pair with my iMac.  Can someone help please?

My bluetooth keyboard (Macnus brand - bought recently in Thailand)(similar to Mac small keyboard) will pair with my iPad using code 8310,and is recognized by my iMac but will not pair?
There are very scant instructions with the keyboard and no mention of any code (the code was prompted by my iPad).
I have followed the instructions but it still will not pair with my iMac!
    Can anyone help please?
My iMac is 20 inch  Mid 2007 OSX10.9.1 4GB RAM

Hi All, thank you for you suggestions.  I have been unable to find any website for the maker, but have looked at several Thai/cambodian sites incl <http://www.buycoms.com/Article/8435/index.asp>  which mentions the keyboard being suitable for tablet or windows.  No mention of iMac!  although the box is branded to indicate Mac compatable.
I'm thinking that maybe it just will not pair with an iMac.
Ill keep looking for the maker website, which might come on later in the future? maybe?
    thanks again.

Intel iMac; upgraded adobe flash; bluetooth keyboard no longer pairs but magic mouse still OK. With Bluetooth switched on the screen splits into 4 areas and open windows seperate and shrink. Switch off Bluetooth and problem disappears and iMac works OK with plug-in keyboard and mouse

    Hi, Derek -
...the screen splits into 4 areas and open windows seperate and shrink.
Sounds like Spaces is being activated somehow. With the wired keyboard and mouse in use, select the Exposé & Spaces control pane in System Preferences, click the choice in that pane for Spaces. See what the settings are. There are some activation settings in that pane - by default, F8 activates it.
It could be that the bluetooth keyboard has some stuck keys and is activating Spaces; or that the activation command has somehow been reset to something that the bluetooth mouse, or bluetooth itself, is triggering.
