HT201180 What type of Fire Wire cable to use to connect MacBook Pro 2009 to tape-based Sony TRV720 camcorder

What type of Fire Wire cable to use to connect MacBook Pro 2009 to tape-based Sony TRV720 camcorder

USB is the slowest. Firewire is faster. eSata is the fastest (and will be superceded by Thunderbolt).  The old Fire was 4 pin (Firewire 400 and is essentially obsolete), new is 9 pin, Firewire 800.  All of the will transmit data, simply a different speeds.
For eSata connectivity, you MBP must have an express card slot (and the appropriate eSata connection card) and you external enclosure must have an eSata input.  eSata cables will only transmit data, therefor it will require power by Firewire or USB cables.
Ciao.

  • Can no longer connect Macbook Pro 10.6.8 to Sony Bravia HDTV with HDMI to Mini DisplayPort cable, Can no longer connect Macbook Pro 10.6.8 to Sony Bravia HDTV with HDMI to Mini DisplayPort cable

I have a 2011 Macbook Pro 10.6.8 that is not recognized by my Sony Bravia HDTV. What's weird is that the same cable works with my roommates 2012 Macbook Pro. Help please, I would love to watch movies + shows on the big screen!

I hooked my Sony .Bravia 40" up to my MacBook with no problem. From your description, it sounds like you may also have a bad DVI->HDMI cable. I'm using the stock Apple miniDVI adaptor mated to my DVI->HDMI cable.
I was going to go the route you took and use the VGA port on my Bravia, but thought it might limit me to "side" letterboxes since I thought VGA basically stood for 640x480 or 4X3 format. I'm surprised that you get 1920x1080 from a VGA cable. While your picture may be great, by definition I understand high to low video quality in order is...
HDMI/DVI, Component, s-video, VGA, and lastly, A/V cables.
My DVI->HDMI cable is a cheapie that I think I bought at Frys. This type of cable is probably getting harder to find as most stuff is straight HDMI now. Anyone thinking of getting a new flat screen should strongly remember to get one with at least 3 HDMI ports unless they are into cable switch-a-roo when connecting various devices. The stock devices today are cable/satellite, Blu-Ray/HD-DVD/DVD and one for the old Mac.

  • What is the best external battery to use with a macbook pro retina?

Looking for the best option here. What is the best external battery to use with a macbook pro retina?

You should check your date of purchase against the manufacturer's warranty
or guaranty since some of those better brands have some recourse should
they fail within a specified time period. A good reason to save dated receipts.
Since solid-state USB drives probably don't (all) use a wear-leveling software
to equally utilize their recordable space evenly, it is possible that some of these
may exhibit a failure in some sector areas due to excessive over-writing. If the
ones you use do not have such a technology or an undercounted total capacity
with a means to automatically write in other sections, you may have to consider
manually using a disk utility to zero-overwrite and reformat them occasionally.
Even so, that may only help a marginal flash or thumb drive work a little longer.
Should a camera memory card fail you still may be able to attempt with margin of
success, to +recover image files+ from it. re: http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec
The standard default format they ship with works well for most file types; so if
you aren't moving OS X or Mac app specific files around on a USB flash drive,
the original format should be fine. Oh, you can use Disk Utility to attempt to do
a repair; but in some cases you may have to reformat them, etc.
    {Some of the flash drive warranties or guarantees may vary from between regions;
so if you have one with a '5 Year' guarantee in the US, other rules may apply in EU,
    or when you seek to replace an item under warranty outside of where it was bought.}

what screwdriver do I buy for the back of a macbook pro  2009

    paulfromshoreview,
you’ll need a #00 Phillips screwdriver for the bottom case. If you ever wish to replace its internal disk, you’ll also need a T6 Torx screwdriver to do that.

  • What type of memory would be the best for my MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2010?

I have a Mid 2010 13" Macbook Pro and I'm going to upgrade my RAM. I know I can upgrade up to 8GB of RAM, but I was wondering what is the best "brand" and what website I should buy it from. For example, eBay, NewEgg, Amazon / PNY, Crucial, etc?  Can you guys help me out? Thanx!

No one anywhere has repeatedly bought RAM from every RAM vendor everywhere, so no one is able to answer your question on the basis of experience. My own experience has been that OWC is a 100% reliable vendor of Mac-compatible products, including RAM, at good prices, with outstanding support and a warranty you can depend on. here's the RAM you need on OWC's site:

  • What kind of external microphone can I use with the MacBook Pro?

What kind of microphone can I use with GarageBand in MacBook Pro ?

It depends which MBP you have. Some of the newer ones don't have an audio in port, so you need a USB adapter with an audio in jack.

  • What type of usb cord do i need for my Macbook pro air to print to my brother mfc7880DW

When I print a message comes up that says "printer not connected", but the USB cord is connected. HELP!!

    Hey tcanady,
Since you're using your printer via USB connection, follow these steps until the issue is addressed:
Make sure that the printer is powered on, has ink / toner, and that there are no alerts on the printer’s control panel. Note: If you cannot clear an alert on the printer's control panel, stop here and check the printer's documentation or contact the manufacturer for support.
Ensure the printer is properly connected to a USB port on the Mac or AirPort base station / Time Capsule. If the printer is a network-capable printer, make sure that it is properly connected to your home network.
Use Software Update to find and install the latest available updates. If an update is installed, see if the issue persists.
Open the Print & Scan pane or Print & Fax (Snow Leopard) pane in System Preferences.
Delete the affected printer, then add the printer again.
If the issue persists, try these additional steps:
Reset the printing system, then add the printer again.
If the issue still persists, reset the printing system again.  Download and install your printer's drivers. Then, add the printer again.
Contact the printer vendor or visit their website for further assistance.

  • HT2498 how do I find out what kind of fire wire port I have on my desktop? I want to transfer video from my camcorder.

how do I find out what kind of fire wire port I have on my desktop? I want to transfer video from my camcorder.

If you have Firewire 800 it's a boxy looking port, the Firewire 400 is thinner and has a arrow looking shape, you can get a adpater.
FW800 is simply FW 400 x 2, so the adapter gives you FW 400.

I can't transfer my info from my old Macbook (Year 2006) to my new MacBook Pro. The Fire Wire Cable changed !
Excuse my English, I am French writing from Paris, France
    Thanks

All you need, if you've the non-Retina model, is a FireWire 400 to FireWire 800 cable -> such as this one from Amazon.
I know that there's a UK Amazon - can you order from there? Or is there a French Amazon as well?
    Good luck,

  • What type of vga cord should i use?

I just purchased a mac mini and it is on its way. I have a 22'' memorex lcd tv and it has a VGA plug in. What type of vga cord should i use? Theres male to male and theres male to female. Which cord should i use and does any1 know a site i can order it off of?
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

i just did a quick google search for for dvi to vga cables, without the use of an adapter...
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=dvito+vga+cable-adapter&btnG=Search
the first site that came up...
    http://www.datapro.net/products/1145.html
these cables would allow you to hook up the monitor without using the adapter... would just save a little bit of space if depth is at all an issue, or the visibility of the cable sticking out that far back.

  • What type of hard disk should I use if I want to use it on mac and windows?

    Hey Forum,
I am using windows xp on my macbook (snow leopard). I came across some dealers who say that there are hard disks for mac only and for both mac and windows. So, I wanted to buy a hard disk so that I can use it both on mac and windows xp, so what type of hard disk should I use? Must I partition into 2?
or are there any harddisk in the market which is compatible for both mac and windows xp without screwing up the format(NTFS/Mac OS X Journaled)? Pls look into this matter and help me with it.
All of your replies and suggestions is much appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Ala.

Run, don't walk, from that dealer! and never look back
Once in a very long while Apple will have customized firmware on drives, and it is possible to find SCSI/SAS or drives that are destined to be used with high end storage controllers.
But that is the exception that makes the rule.
SATA is SATA. Though.... there are now SATA III drives that don't work in XP, or that need a jumper, and Seagate and some drives have managed to deliver firmware that has caused trouble... and Apple has had to issue firmware updates to help compatibility....
