I got the update message and I usually immediately download and install the update, but this day I ignored the message. A few days later I got this POP Up stating that a C++ runtime Microsoft Visual app is attempting to load a program in the wrong place. I don't know if Itunes is running for a 64 bit program which I have. Windows 7, 64 bit or running or the 32 bit from my transferred programs from another computer which was a 32 bit operating system. If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you checked your connections and are still seeing the error message, check for hardware issues.

If you have American Express, your 4-digit security code is on the front. If you have VISA or MasterCard, your 3-digit security code is outside the signature block on the back of your credit card. It happens to me also.

My guess is that you won't be able to do much if you threw away the serial number before using it. The serial number will not have been externally visible on the box though... doing that would make it available for use by anyone who sees the box in any store.
To locate the serial number:

If you remain unable to locate the serial number you might need to head back to wherever you purchased the product to confirm whether or not you might have thrown out the serial number or if it could even possibly have never been provided.

I have plugged my phone into itunes to try and restore it. It only shows the apple icon and nothing else. After plugging in and trying to restore it gives me the error message 4013. I have updated my itunes to the latest version.

I have had no trouble updating the several iPads under my charge at work, however can't update my own. Am using iOS 5.1 currently on original iPad. I go to settings and it looks for any updates available and I click install to 5.1.1 but keep getting error message saying there was an error when trying to update. I am on my home wifi on my iPad. Have done same procedure with about 5 other iPads with no trouble. What can I do?

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."

You could have more 5 computers authorized if you ever, for example, reformatted a hard drive or replaced a hard drive without deauthorizing the computer first. I tried doing both, I couldnt find either symantec or live update in applications or when I searched through finder. I went to the activity monitor and found symantec and quit the process but the next time i logged on to my computer, it came back. this is what the error message looks like
