HT201210 I'm trying to restore an IPhone 4 but keep getting an unknown error 27 message. What is this and how do I fix it?
My cousin asked me to help with his IPhone 4. It will not do anything except show the Apple logo. I have tried to do a restore on it but keep getting the message "Unknow error occurred. (27)". What is this and how do I fix it?

If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device) -

I saw this post at about 2:05 becasue I had the same problem. I just tried it again and now the update is downloading! just wait it out. I had to wait about 3.5 hours.

Had message on my iphone 4 this morning that I needed to plug it into itunes. Did this but could only get a blank screen with apple symbol on it. Tried to do a system restore but keep getting the message that it couldn't finish restoring
Try a Hard Reset.....
Press and hold the Wake / Sleep button AND the Home button at the same time, keep them both pressed until the Apple Logo appears on the screen, it can take 10 or more seconds. Ignore the swipe to turn off message. -

Either your antivirus/firewall is blocking access to Apple's servers, or all of those computers you tried have been used to hack or jailbreak some iOS device in the past.

Check for hardware issues
Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the alert when you update or restore, contact Apple support.
Common errors: 1, 10-47, 1002, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1000-1020.

When I am connected to my computer to sync my iTunes and iPhone (4s) the 'log' in iTunes tells me I have three books installed on the device, but when I eject the phone, I have nothing installed.
What is happening, and how can I stop this - it is starting to frustrate me.
Thanks in advance.Put it into DFU mode - hold the sleep/wake button and home button until the screen goes black (ignoring the slide to turn off slider). When the screen goes black release the sleep/wake button but hold the home button. Continue holding the home button for 10 seconds, then release it. The screen should stay black. Plug it into iTunes and it should come up with this message "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. It must be restored before use", that's when it is successfully in DFU mode. Now press the restore button in iTunes and it should run smoothly :)

I am trying to restore my iphone3g but I can only get to item 8 and then it stops and says ( could not be restored unknown error occured)
I cannot get to step 9 to complete restore and to reactivate my phone...I would appreciate any help thank You krisi do that but it keeps getting stuck on the 'preparing to restore i phone' screen for a few mins before coming up with 'unknown error 1603'.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time? -
