HT201210 (iPad 2) Upgrading from 4.3.5 to 5.x.x

Hey all
Need some help every time I try to updrade on my iPad 2 GSM I get an error that have no error code only:
"This device isn't eligible for the requested build"
I have tried this so far:
Normal upgrade with the following steps:
new user on Mac OS X 10.6.8
new user on Windows XP
new user on Windows 7
Restore on all platforms
Force-restore on all platforms
DFU mode on all platforms
All the steps about with out WIFI and in airplain mode
Erased all content and settings and making it a new iPad and done all steps ones again.
Kind of have no idea what to try next.... Anyone have any ideas ?
And the iPad is ofcause mine and not jailbroken or anything like that. And this iPad is not a development version and there have never been beta software on it...
Please let me know if anyone have a fix or an idea what I can try next..
Hmmmmmmmmm when trying to find my software version it's not there...... what the.... no IOS 4.3.5, hmmm someone forgot to tell my iPad that....

OK fixed.
I had to install a new box with Windows 7 on it so installed a new itunes on it and tried again. It seemed to do the trick. Wierd though that before that I tried on a brand new Macbook Pro with a fresh install on it and that did't work.
So to others that have this problem I guess buying a new PC or reinstalling Windows 7 will do the trick (not really a solution though).

  • HT201210 iPad software upgrade interrupted

Upgrade to iOS 6.01 stopped after "Welcome to iOS 6.01" welcome screen & before installation completed  because user called away and unable to complete the installation steps for 24 hours.   iPad was connected to charger but will now not turn on and is not recognized by iTunes. How can it be restored?

Reboot the iPad and see if it will start up this way.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Then try to update again. If the iPad is not recognized in iTunes, try restoring with recovery mode. I hope that you backed up the iPad yesterday when you initially tried to update.
You can read about recovery mode here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4097
    Or you can follow this.
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for iPad to turn off.
If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the recovery mode alert that iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode.
    Use iTunes to restore iPad.

  • Can an iPad be upgraded from a computer that is not the syncing computer?

My bf has an iPad that he has synced with his parent's iMac but we've moved several states away. If I upgrade to iOs5 using my mbp, will it require the device to sync with this computer?

    Yes.

  • HT4623 iPad 2 -upgrade from ios5.1 to ios7

While I read about technical issues in performance of an ipad2 being upgraded to ios7 I am with tripedation awaiting news that ios7 actually works with ipad2 without a hitch. However this does seem to be the case.
I am still reading about problems people face with upgrading to ios7.
Even if I backup my iPad, I read that restoring back in case of any error is another challenge.
So should I risk my convenience of using glitch free iPad now or go for the upgrade?

...ios7 actually works with ipad2 without a hitch...
This depends on how you define "without a hitch". I have also updated my iPad 2 and experienced none of the issues some others have reported, with the exception of a very slight but noticeable decrease in performance. It is more than outweighed (in my opinion and experience) by the added features that come with iOS 7.
I am still reading about problems people face with upgrading to ios7.
People don't come to these forums to tell you how well things are going. It's a technical support forum and as such, it's loaded with people having issues. Compare the small number of people here with problems to all of those who have upgraded compatible devices over the last several months.
Even if I backup my iPad, I read that restoring back in case of any error is another challenge.
It's not a challenge, it's simply not possible. You cannot downgrade an iDevice once it has been upgraded.
So should I risk my convenience of using glitch free iPad now or go for the upgrade?
Only you can make that decision. But keep this in mind. The fact that you have posted here means you have already investigated the options and understand the risk. I hope we don't see you back here complaining like so many others about how "Apple trashed your iPad" by forcing you to upgrade. You do so at your own risk. :-)

  • IPad 1 upgrade from 4.3.1 to 5.1.1 and error message 0e800400C during backup.  The response I get is that it is trying to backup my ipad.

I'm trying to upgrade my ipad and it tries to backup before the upgrade.  During the backup I get an error message 0e800400C  and a promot that if I continue I may lose data (I'm ok with it.  I have already cleared data and settings).  When I press continue, the upgrade stops and the Ipad restores automatically.  So, I'm unable to get it done.  Any thoughts on what I may be doing wrong?

The first generation iPad can't be updated past 5.1.1.

  • I've upgraded from iOS 6 to 7.0.3 and I know that i entered the corrct passcode but my iPad 4 wont accept it. How do I reset the passcode?

I can't get into my iPad since upgrading from iOS 6 to 7.0.3
I know that I've entered the correct passcode, and iOS 7 validates it as it installs, but now I'm locked out, but wasn't intially.
How do I gain acces again? I've tethered it to iTunes but can't see anything to help.
    Help please.

Restore, if iTunes will let you.  Everything except the password will be restored.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  Be forewarned that it takes a long time.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  Since you have IOS-7, read this.

  • I've read similar questions and answers, but I am still terrified to upgrade from leopard to snow leopard. The only reason I want to is because I received an iPad which requires an updated system. I have an external hard drive. I have the disks to upgrade

I've read similar questions and have studied the answers, but I am still terrified to upgrade from leopard to snow leopard on my macbook pro. The only reason for doing it is in order to sync my macbook pro with my iPad. I do have an external drive which automatically backs up every hour. BUT.......I am techno-ignorant as well as techno-paranoid. I have the disks to update to snow leopard but knowing doing so may likely change/alter/lose/obliterate my current set-up, it actually makes me feel sick to think of it.
Years ago when updating via Apple Protection Plan tech support, my screen actually went blank, everything gone! The tech told me not to worry, that "we" would be able to restore things, but several hours later I was still looking at a primitive looking screen that wasn't anything like what I had before. His language was too technical, in that there was an assumption I understood things I had zero understanding of. Example: partition my external drive.
Anyway, living hundreds of miles from an Apple service provider, and no Apple techs in my community, I had to wait for a trip to an Apple Store where one of the wonderful guys at the genius bar spent a ton of time getting things back to normal and actually explaining it enough that I had a vague understanding.
So now I am in the predicament again and won't know what to do after installing the new disks and finding a likely mess or absence of documents etc. on my computer. I don't know how to access the external drive, and even if I did I wouldn't know how to move stuff from that to my computer.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm in the same boat as you, I've used Mac's since day one and neglected my Windows education and now it has come to haunt me as I have to learn it like a school kid.
Nearly 99% of all businesses and nearly 95% of everyone use Windows, Steve Jobs declared "The desktop wars are over, Microsoft won" a long time ago.
By 2015 tablets are going to be selling to consumers more than traditional computers, your living proof, you got a iPad.
Apple has already discontinued the Xserver, the Xraid, the MacBooks and the 17" Macbook Pro.
Apple has introduced BootCamp in OS X 10.6 and up, this allows a partition and drivers so one can install Windows on a Mac.
    https://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
Why do you think they named it "BootCamp"
You can't run a older OS X version longterm like you have with 10.5 anymore, Mac's are being targeted for attacks and older OS X versions are dropped for security updates.
In fact your Mac might still be part of the 750,000 Mac strong Flashback botnet or infected.

    http://arstechnica.com/apple/2012/04/how-to-check-forand-get-rid-ofa-mac-flashba ck-infection/
See here, Apple has no security updates for 10.5 users and soon 10.6 is going to be ignored next.

1-1.5 years is the OS X upgrade cycle. Change everytime like it or not.
So I'm thinking about your long term future and how you obviously don't like change, need local assistance like it appears you first claimed.
So buy a new Mac and upgrade your OS X version whenever Apple shows it in AppStore.
When your machine can no longer upgrade to the newest OS X version, then you've got about another 2 more years of security updates before you have to buy a new machine or risk running a insecure one.

I'm of the maturity and experience that I know a Mac isn't always the best solution for everyone and even Apple doesn't provide the proper hardware, support or features for everyone. Why only store locations in high traffic ritzy areas?
Our SteveJobs fan here is under 18 years old with good eyes, he's not older like we are with bad or failing eyesight.
The new Mac's  have hard to see glossy screens and the type/UI can't be scaled up easily to accomadate our older eyes, however a Windows 7 machine does allow up to 150% scale of the UI, type etc., and also there are anti-glare screen PC's and just about no more anti-glare screen Mac's.
I wrote this User tip in case you have trouble seeing the screen, at least you can scale the web browsing up
Web browsing for hard of seeing users
Apple might still be selling the anti-glare 15" non-retina on their online store, it's the "high resolution/anti-glare model"
But I can get a 17" 1080i HD anti-glare Windows 7 laptop at Sager for a lot more performance and screen size for the price than a Mac.
    https://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=category_browse&selected_cat=2
Screen size is important as the UI and text can be scaled up for easier reading.
Of course you do now have the option of having Windows pre-installed alongside OS X to begin your transition to the dark side.
Just call and they will accomondate, hold the option/alt key at boot time to swtich operating systems.

Windows 7 looks just as good as OS X, the secret is having a good monitor with most PC's come with don't.
Good Luck and I hope I've given you a lot to think about.

  • I'm upgrading from iPad2 to iPad air.  how can I transfer all my data and apps from one to the other?

Hi, I'm upgrading from my iPad2 to the iPad Air.  What is the most painless way to transfer all my data from one device to another?
I have iannotate, which I've just found out is no longer syncing via iCloud (I thought that's what I was paying all that storage for) and a lot of catalogued PDF's on it.  Is there any other way besides plugging it in to my old Mac via iTunes to do the transfer?

Favor the route via iTunes and local storage on the computer. MUCH faster than any cloudy backup, no matter the speed of your Internet connection. No network beats the speed of a hard drive. Just make sure there's enough room on the computer before you start, must contain all that's on the iGadget.

  • I can't upgrade from IOS 6.0.1 to IOS 7.1.1. iPad says it has downloaded IOS 7.0.3 but cannot verify the installation. Cannot restore or update in iTunes either. Help please?

I can't upgrade from IOS 6.0.1 to IOS 7.1.1 on my iPad 2. iPad says it has downloaded IOS 7.0.3 but cannot verify the installation if I try and install it. It claims that I have lost internet connection, which I have not. I cannot restore or update the iPad in iTunes either, if I try to, I get an error message which says that I 'do not have permission to access the requested resource'. I am using the latest version of iTunes on Windows 8. I have tried putting the iPad in recovery mode and restoring it with iTunes, the result is the same.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

    @Rudegar
Thanks for the reply, but I've been having this problem for well over a week. If it is a corrupt download, is there some way of deleting it from the iPad and getting a new one?
    Thanks

  • I recently upgraded from ipad 1 to the new ipad.  Somehow all of my old deleted emails (3000 ) keep showing up on my new ipad in clusters of 50.  How do I stop  this from happening.

I recently upgraded from ipad 1 to the new ipad.  After synching my new ipad, all of my deleted emails (3000+) keep showing up on my new ipad in my mail section.  How can I stop  this?

    Thanks for responding.
I followed that 'How-To' when I did the transfer and watched iTunes process the backup, it also showed the 'Last Backup' date correctly at the bottom of the iTunes Summary screen. I did a restore from backup to my new iPad and on checking the iPad 4 it seemed that the transfer process duly transferred my books, documents, apps etc but did not transfer my photos and videos (they are all clicked to be included in the sync).
I have now clicked on each video title in iTunes and it tells me that it cannot locate any of the videos!
It seems for some bizarre reason that the transfer process has transferred some of the content of my iPad 1 and deleted other content - I don't get it!
I also have the same content (videos and photos) on my iPhone 4 and have connected that to iTunes, whereby it immediately did a backup and sync, however I still get iTunes telling me that it cannot locate the videos ... it's as though the backup that was taken does not exist - or does 'backup' not mean 'backup'?.

  • HT1495 upgrading from ipad 2 to 3 - can my apps stay within the current folders?

I am upgrade from ipad 2 to 3 - can my apps stay within the current folders?

    They SHOULD.
When you plug in that new iPad you'll be given two options, set up as new, restore from a backup of your old one. Choose the latter and the apps and info from your 2 should transfer over to your 3. You'll need to enter some info, such as the internet connections and passwords, etc, but 90-95% of it will transfer over and your 3 will be a near clone of your 2.

  • My ipad will not stay activated after upgrading from version 7 to version 8.

After upgrading from version 7 to version8 I cannot keep my ipad activated.  I have tried online tech support and visited an Apple store with no one able to tell me what is happening.  Some said it might be had ware problems.  Other say it might be software problems.  With vs 7 I never had the problem.. I have anolder ipad with vs 5 and do not have the problems.  any feed back from anyone.

Your iPad doesn't have a camera!!.... Didn't you say your iPad was an iPad 2 ??
If your iPad is an iPad 2 then it will have a camera (front and back) and will be able to update to iOS 7.
The first iPad's last update was before iOS 6, and you said yours was saying 5.1.1 was up to date, then it is probably and iPad first gen not an iPad 2.
So to answer your question.... You can't update to iOS 7 because your iPad is a first gen not an iPad 2.
    I hope this helped!!!! :D
