Make sure you have some free space and if you do then buy a new syncing cable

  • How do I view and open all my files again that are on my external hard drive?? Error message saying 'The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer' Three options are Initialize, Ignore or Eject.

I have recently purchased Toshiba 1TB hard drive and I set it up and I was able to transfer all my files onto it such as my music, photos, documents. I had correctly ejected and used it again and all these files were safely stored and accessible afterwards. However after I rebooted my computer as it had been going slow and I had too much clogging it up once I reconnected the external hard drive I have error message saying 'The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer' Three options are Initialize, Ignore or Eject. How do I access all my files? I set it up to work on both mac and windows. I have tried both another mac and windows computer and same issue occurs?? I am worried that all my personal files are gone but am confused as the drive has had absolutely no damage to it as it was in a very short time frame and its never left the same spot. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for your quick response. I had a look at your discussion... I tried it on a Windows machine and I thought that was compatible with ExFAT?
Therefore I need to attempt to use my external hard drive with a machine that boasts OS X 10.6.5 or above and then it should work?
    Thanks

  • Why does TimeMachine say the disk is full when it isn't?

    Hello!
A lot of my backups recently have been failing because TimeMachine says the disk is full, when that simply isn't true. As of right now, I have 1.18 TB available of
2 TB. Why do my backups fail even when sufficient space is there?
Thank you so much in advance!!!

    This main explanation is here.
    OS X Yosemite (10.10)
This is pretty much equivalent to kids talking to each other on tin cans over a wet string.
The TM in Yosemite is also exceedingly bug infested.
    The best solution for now..
    1. Use ethernet instead of wireless to do backups.
    2. If you upgrade installed Yosemite a clean install might improve it.
    3. Using local disk (USB drive plugged in for example) can be a huge improvement over networks and wireless.
    4. If you continued the backup from the old OS, wipe the TC disk and start over a new TM backup. (you can archive the old one if you want to maintain the history).
    5. Use an alternative to TM until apple get their act together.. eg Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper etc.

i used the "erase free space " option in disk utility and now my imac says the disk is full and wont let me download songs. please help!

You could try repairing permissions with disk utility, I don't think you will have the option to repair the drive but you could verify it.
This may help you delete the files that DU made but did not remove when erasing the free space.

When you get your SL disk it will not have the iLife applications, that would have been on the second install disk that should have been with the computer. I forget which version of iLife you will need for SL but I think it is this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Apple-iLife-Single-User-Mac/dp/B003XKRZES/ref=sr_1_1?ie= UTF8&qid=1409607702&sr=8-1&keywords=apple+ilife+11
A search of the forums will confirm or deny this.
As to whether a clean install will cure your problem, i.e. partition the HDD and install I would expect it to be yes, but there are no guarantees it is an old machine.

  • Why does it say \'The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer\'

I have been using an HP Photosmart Plus B210a printer for a year.  Recently I have many inconsistent printing problems, it's slow, in a queue, just doesn't move until I reboot - pull out plug, download again etc... anyway now it's defunct I'm steaming - shall I chuck it and buy another if so which - thinking of HP Envy 120???  Anyway when I try to use usb and not eprint a box pops up saying: The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer.  So here lies the problem, but I;ve changed cables and still it pops up.  What does this mean?  My Lion 10.7 mac OX is as new as the printer.  Please advise, before I go insane.

Sounds like you are having a configuration issue with the software. Initially, my first response will be to completely remove the software from your computer and reinstall it using the software that HP makes available to download. Here is a link to that download :
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=4021935
Have you also considered trying a different method of communication (e.g. wirelessly or using an Ethernet cord)? This might allow me to make better assumptions on where the issue lays if I know the circumstances which lead to it.
Let me know and have a great day!

  • When I insert my Dvd-R it says The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer. Why is this happening ???

When I insert my Dvd-R cd it saids "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." Please help
    thanks

This is a blank disc?  A disc you burned?   Burned discs have a relatively high failure rate if you buy cheap DVDs.  I bought some Dynex ones once and about one in every four fails.
Have you tried other DVDs to check if it is a drive issue?

  • I cant download a new tv episode because itunes says the disk is full that it is being stored on....however when I deleted many shows from my library it still will not download.....I went to my desktop and tried to empty my recycle bin and the empty recyc

I cant download onto my computer an episode I purchased because when I hit download it says that the disk I am attempting to tranfer to is full.....however iy had no problem down loading another show....(Jon Stuart) So I went to my library where I see my shows stored and deleted MANY and when I tried again to download ---I got the same message to full......I tried to empty the recycle bin on my desktop thinking it was holding too much but the choice to empty is not darkened so it will not empty....can ANYONE help?

Therefore, t there any way to just completely delete all the old backup data out of my Time Capsule from my prior Mac Laptop?
Here is how to do this:
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click Manual Setup
Click the Disks icon at the top of the AirPort Utility window
Click the Disks tab below the icons
    Click Erase
The "Quick Erase" option will only take a moment or two
Now you can backup your MacBook Pro. If you connect an Ethernet cable from the MBP to one of the LAN <-> ports on the TC, the first backup will go 3-5 times faster than wireless.
Once you have the first backup done, you can use wireless for subsequent backups since they will only take a few minutes

I am getting frequent messasges saying "the disk is full trying to write to Macintosk HD. Free some space on this drive or dave the document on another disk, etc.  I have at least 300GB of unused space on Macintosh HD. This is followed by another message that Word is unable to save the AutoRecover file in the location you have specifed. and to check prefernces. I am saving to my desktop.

Thank you! It was a small war to find out even how to post a question, so I guess in the moment I overlooked the fact that I posted to the wrong forum . But the problem have been solved by a friend who experienced the same problem. It seemed that there was one Microsoft Equation (out of the many in the document) that was malfunctioning. So by deleeting excactly the right equation, the problem was solved.
Hope that helps someone later on.

  • HP Laserjet P1102w by USB "The disk you inserted is not readable by this computer"

My HP Laserjet P1102w used to work fine with OS X10.10. Then it started saying "The disk you inserted is not readable by this computer" whenever I switched it on, but the printer still worked. This morning it didn't. I uninstalled the printer, but can't re-install it - it isn't listed when I click "+". I have tried a different USB cable, and a different USB port - same message. The HP website does not provide a downloadable driver, as far as I can see. What do I do? (The wireless connection to the printer stopped working ages ago. The printer still works with our two PCs via USB.)

    Hi Shapley,
Repairing the disk permissions can be done as following:
    1. Open the the Applications folder.
    2. Go to the Utilities folder.
    3. Double-click on Disk Utility.
    4. Select the hard drive containing the boot volume.
    5. Go to the First Aid tab and select Repair Disk Permissions.
Note: This process may take several minutes depending on the Mac and amount of permissions that need to be repaired. The Progress Log will indicate when the process has been completed.
Next reboot your Mac and try plugging the USB again.
If the same persist, a such may also happen due to a conflict with the HP Smart Install feature which is Windows Based only and being wrongly read by the Mac, in order to resolve a such a Windows based PC will be required. any laptop should meet the purpose, the printer will be installed automatically by connecting the USB.
Next update and install the latest firmware below:

Next follow the HP Smart Install Control Utility below: Select the Printer and follow the on-screen steps to disable the feature for the printer.

NOw plug the USB back to your Mac and check for any difference
Please let me know of any change,

  • "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" error message

Hello. I've had my iMac for a little over three months and I've encountered a strange problem. I play Warcraft III, and whenever I insert the disk into the drive, I get an error message saying "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" and it gives me the options to ignore or eject. I've gotten the same message with Starcraft as well. I also tried putting in the iPod Nano install disk with the same result. CD-Rs and Audio cds work smoothly though. I called Apple technical support and they told me to call 1-800-MY-APPLE to schedule an appointment with my local branch to bring it in. I just wanted to make sure no one on these forums can help me. All help is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
    iMac (Early 2006)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Steve, the original poster made clear he was on a core duo iMAC which ONLY runs OS X (discounting non Apple OSes of course!)
Therefore there is no extension manager. But I guess he would thank you for trying to help anyway.

  • The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer-I KNOW!

    Hello
Does anybody know how can I make the Finder ignore a certain volume and not prompt me to initialize it every time I plug it in?
I have an external disk encrypted with a third-party utility (TrueCrypt) which means that OS X cannot mount it. The Finder is not happy with that, and prompts me with an annoying popup every time I connect the disk. The popup says: "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" and asks if I want to format it.
How can I tell it to ignore that particular disk? I know it's not readable, that's on purpose!
Alternatively, can I partition it in such a way to avoid the warning? I've tried both encrypting the whole disk (no readable partition map) and encrypting a single partition (with a valid MBR partition map.) Both ways cause the nagging.

    No.
Truecrypt is not implemented in the System so that it mounts the encryptet volume automatically. that would be kind of stuipd, since its designed to only mount the drive with a password.
When you plug in the external HD with an encrypted volume, finder tells us "i cant read that ****, format it".
thats when you launch truecypt, select that partition, and enter its password.
truecrypt then mounts the volume with MacFuse and it shows up in the finder.
there is currently no way to make truecrypt prompt for a password automatically.
so, the question is and remains, can we disable the finders "initialize volume" dialog?
truecrypt is a terrific applications. too bad os x is yet too ignorant to non-known filesystems.

  • I get this message whenever I turn on my printer: The disk you inserted is not readable by this computer. How can I fix this?

Whenever I turn on my printer (HP OfficeJet Pro L7590), I get an error message that says: "The disk you inserted is not readable by this computer." Then I have to click "ignore" or "eject." I click ignore, and everything works as it should. But the error message is annoying, and it only started happening a few weeks ago. I got the same message when I was using OSX 10.4, and now that I've upgraded to 10.6.8, I'm still getting it. How do I get rid of it?
    Thanks!

If you installed the Seagate software, remove it according to the manufacturer's instructions.

my iphone 3 couldn't restore, its saying the error 46. what is the meaning of error 46?and how can i resolve it?

It doesn't matter when you installed antivirus software; if you have it on your computer it will frequently block access from applications to sites it does not know about. A sync does not require access to a site not on your computer; an upgrade clearly does. So if you have never jailbroken any device you do not need to be concerned about your hosts file, but you DO need to temporarily disable your antivirus during the update process.
The hosts file is an operating system file on all computers that overrides DNS lookup. In order to jailbreak or hack an iDevice the programs that do it need to redirect iTunes so it does not go to the Apple activation server, but instead goes to the hacking program for activation instructions. It does this by adding a record to the hosts file that bypasses the DNS lookup for gs.apple.com. But you don't have to be concerned about this.
