To address this issue, I would suggest you close all open apps, then restart and reset your iPhone. Here's how:

If the issue persists, Reset All Settings on the iPhone. This information can be found in the iPhone User Guide:

Reset iPhone settings. Go to Settings > General > Reset, then choose
Reset All Settings: All your preferences and settings are reset.

Try connecting your phone to iTunes, UNCHECKING the "sync music" tab and then running a sync. After finished, and the music removed, re-check the "sync music" tab and run the sync again. This is what finally worked for me, hope it does for you too.

While updating the iPhone 5 software from 6.1.3 to 6.1.4, the power failed. iTunes had just finished the backup and was beginning the software update. Now the phone screen says to connect to iTunes but the phone is not recognised when plugged in. Using Windows 7 and phone not recognised by computer, let alone by iTunes.
Any suggestions? Happy to take it off to the the Apple genius people but would prefer to get it running myself.

I updated my iPhone 5 yesterday to iOS 8.1.3, now the touch screen isn't responding, keeps opening aps and then get stuck. Can't hang up after making a call. Can't close messages. Have I done something wrong?

After the iOS 7 update my iPhone 5's touch screen is unresponsive some times ,can't even open the lock screen , I had to turn the phone off and turn it on again ,any solutions ?

Just updated iPhone 5 to iOS 7.1.2, now it won't sync with iphoto 9.4.3
Just updated iPhone 5 to iOS 7.1.2 (from some version of iOS 6), now it won't sync with iPhoto 9.4.3 on my MacBook pro (running OS 10.8.5). I plug it in and iPhoto recognizes the iPhone but only displays a 'Loading..." message next to the 'New Photos' page.
Tried it also on my older Mac Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and iPhoto 9.2.3 and same problem.
Any ideas? Already tried rebooting both devices.I have same problem but with iPhoto 9.5.1

Do you have a mac or PC? If a PC try going into the control panel, add/remove programs, find something named Apple device driver, apple mobile device support, something like that (the exact name has changed from version to version)
Uninstall that then restart your comptuer
Open iTunes and then plug in your device and see if the drivers install -
I have recently upgraded from my iphone 5 to a new phone. My iphone 5 's touch screen does not work anymore. I need to backup my phone, but I can't do it on itunes without my password. Everything besides the screen is completely fine-the screen will not recognize my finger anymore. I am not trying to fix the phone, but I need to have my contacts. The pictures have already synced, but I need my password to do a full backup. Unfortunately, I can't type in my password. Is there any way around it? If I take my phone to the apple store, will they be able to help me? I am not willing to replace the screen just to do this, however, so that is out of the question.
Someone else may have a workaround, but, as far as I know, if you cannot interact with the screen on the iPhone, there is no way to unlock it so you can get to your contacts.
Were you saving them to iCloud by chance? If so, you can restore them to your new phone.

If the touch screen is not having any response then you probably have a hardware failure. Take your phone to an Apple Store or authorised service provider to have it checked.

Have you tried plugging it into your computer running iTunes? If so, what happens?

That error message means that your email address is already associated with another Apple ID. It could be tied to GameCenter, iTunes Store, or another Apple ID.

You must be referring to a different phone as well, since the last iOS for the iPhone 3 is 4.2.1. I'll assume you are referring to a 3GS, and as The Huntress stated, swipe the camera up, you can take your pictures and then swipe back down and lock the phone.
