HT201210 not reading sim card after upgard to ios5.1

I bought an uncontract Iphone 4s in Los Angeles, and actived it in Beijing China by using my sim card of China mobile, and everything works perfect. One day when I connected with Itunes, it asked me to upgard to IOS5.1, I pressed OK, after the upgrade, the iphone could not reading the sim card, I tried restart the 4s and re-insert the sim card, but all failed, and Beijing Apple store said they can not help, I have to go back to US to solve this, quite annoyed.

If you are both on the T-mobile network, the sim card should work.  If you did a Erase All Content and Settings, then she should be at the point of activation as a new device...talk to T-mobile and be sure the sim she is using is a valid sim card.

  • Unable to read SIM card after latest update

I downloaded the most recent android update on my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 on 12/10.  Since that update, i've gotten the message "Unable to read the SIM card.  Please restart your phone to read the card" a half-dozen times.  The timing between the messages is sparatic (one time it was a few hours between messages, another time a full day, then 12 hours the third time, etc...).
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?  Is there a simple fix to this (such as just getting a new SIM card from Verizon)?  I'd like to think that the update wasn't the culprit of this, but I've had my Note 4 since the initial release, and it's only started happening since the last update.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

I'm having the same "Unable to read the SIM card" issue. My phone is less than two months old, the unable to read SIM card issue started about a week after I purchased the phone. That was followed by a host of erratic, sporadic issues to the phone becomes unusable and the only way to temporarily fix it is to remove the battery for a few seconds.  I've gone through the factory reset with Verizon reps where I purchased the phone from as well as with a Verizon online Chat representative. In a nutshell, I got a ticket to send the phone back to Samsung in Plano, Texas to get the phone fixed, I am going to do that today because this problem is ridiculous.

  • IPhone 3GS can not detect SIM Card after upgraded to iOS 6.0.1

Guys I really need your advice please...
I upgraded my iPhone 3GS 32GB from iOS 5.1.1 to 6.0.1 a couple weeks ago and since then it can not detect the my SIM Card ever. Before it's been upgraded, the phone was working just fine, but now it's just like a gameboy to me. I've been trying to find solution and some stores want me too pay quite amount of money to fix it but I refused.
By the way, it has been jailbroken with RedSnow, tethered of course... and all the features are working perfectly, the WiFi is working, syncing is working, Bluetooth is working, downloading apps from App Store is okay, but only Mail and Safari won't work. I haven't got a chance to go to Apple Service Center to fix it yet, but the store I went said that Apple may say the same.
    Thanks in advance.
ps to Admin: I'm a newbie, so if I posted this in the wrong room please forgive me.

    Thanks Chris for your solution.
But just for you know that I bought Apple to get the 'after service', they should've warn the users not to upgrade to a higher OS if it can caused the phone 'dead'. Mine was totally unusable when it's just been upgraded. It stayed in the recovery mode and couldn't be restored. So I brought it to the nearest store and they did that to me, and eventually the phone is working, only it cannot detect my SIM Card...
The problem is not about upgrading an iPhone to a newer version of iOS.  Your problem was upgrading a hacked phone, one of the well known consequences of which is re-locking and/or bricking the entire device when restoring in iTunes.  You chose to hack your phones firmware and operating system, so you must accept the consequences of going outside the bounds of normal use that Apple prescribes and supports.
Had you not hacked it in the first place, you likely would have never had a problem, and if you had, Apple would have offered support to deal with it.  Your choice, your decision, your consequences.

  • N95 suddenly not reading sim card

Hello I woke up this morning to find a comedy of errors with my n95 - after 2.5 months of perfect operation (bar a few resets) and with the latest firmware - the **bleep** thing refused to turn on despite leaving it on with the charger plugged and with full battery the night before. After several frantic attempts and battery reinsertion the phone burst back into life, but attempted charges came up with the message "phone not charging" this eventually went away but now the main problem.
The things not reading ANY sim card I put in it, these cards work in any other phone I put them in. Has the handset cocked up and needs to be sent back or is there some option I have not tried?

Does it ask for a pincode from cold start (switched off)?

  • IPad2 3G does not recgonize SIM card after ios5 upgrade.

Recenlty upgraded to ios5 on my iPad2 Wifi + 3G. Was working perfectly until the ios5 upgrade. After the upgrade, it no longer recognizes the sim card.
Tried all the following things, but no success -
    1. Rebooted the ipad2
    2. Replaced with new SIM
    3. Did a system restore of the iPad
Contine to get the following message on start up :
    No SIM card installed!
Also, top left hand corner shows No SIM instead of 3G.
When I go to the Settings page, Cellular Data section is disabled.
By the way, tried the same SIM card on another iPad which had not upgraded to ios5 and the SIM card worked fine.
Pls help. Really frustrated right now with this ios5 upgrade.
    Chetanovsky

Finally found the solution. New iPad!. The apple authorised service Center replaced my iPad with a new one. Not many questions asked! New one is preloaded with iOS5 and recognizes my SIM card.
Recommend people to do the same (i.e. get a replacement) if you have the same problem as mine. Do remember to backup your stuff before sending in your iPad to the service Center.

  • IPhone 4S stopped reading SIM card after 6 months

I have iPhone 4S it has a H2o SIM card that's worked for about 6 months no problem then one day it said SIM card failure I powered phone on/off once and started working again. Two weeks later it took 3-4 times of me cycling power on/off and removing SIM card and reinstalling it in order to get it to work. Then a week later it did same thing but took even longer. Now it won't read at all and I thought it was SIM card so I went and bought a new SIM card but no change, I looked online for help and even tried to put tape on tray/card like someone said but no change(if I even putting the tape in right place. I tried several different ways) Nothing seems to work. My phone was manufactured between 19-25 of March 2012 so hopefully I can get warranty but not original owner so not sure. Does anyone have any idea what can cause this? Why hasn't Apple fixed this problem since its been happening for a long time

The warranty follows the phone. It should still be covered as long as it has not been physically damaged, jailbroken, or hacked to unlock it.
Make an appointment at the genius bar. Apple has no way to magically fix a hardware problem without you taking the phone to them.

  • 5800 not reading sim cards anymore!

hi guys, I am in the UK on the O2 network and i just recently cancelled my contract with them. I was using the 5800 with this contract and it was cancelled today when i checked my phone and there was no operator signal.
So i proceeded to switch that simcard to one of my other contracts and now the phone won't work with the other simcard(o2 as well). The phone is unlocked( i paid to unlock it), and now whatever sim i throw into it it just says "insert simcard" when i go into the network settings.
    What has happend?

Hey Kevz65, Welcome to the Nokia discussions forum!
Here are some steps to help figure out what is wrong with your phone, and hopefully in the end get you up and running.
-Ensure that the SIM card is inserted correctly. For device specific instructions how to insert SIM card, refer to the User Guide of your device available either in the sales package or on the local Nokia web site.
-Ensure that the SIM card is attached tightly and properly in the SIM card slot. The SIM card lock is not bent or damaged and it is closed.
-Use the original battery that comes with the device.
-Try with a new or different SIM card. If another SIM card does not give error message, contact your network operator or service provider to verify that your SIM card is not corrupted or is properly configured.
-If the problem persists with another SIM card, please contact Nokia Care.
If your SIM card reads "Not Accepted", your first step would be to contact your network operator or service provider.
    I hope this helps!

  • Iphone not reading SIM card

any ideas of what to do?

How do you know the problem is the SIM card?
If you really believe it is a corrupted SIM card you need to get a new SIM from AT&T. Apple does not provide new AT&T SIMs.
Take the iPhone to AT&T and have them check it out.

  • Upgraded 3GS to 6.0.1 now will not read SIM card

I tried to update 3GS to the new 6.0.1 but it now says the there is no SIM card and it can not be activated.

Your iPhone was hacked/jailbroken to unlock it and it has new relocked to the original carrier. Contact whatever carrier it is locked with and find out what their unlock process is. If you do not know call AppleCare and give them the model and serial number.

  • Gave my iPhone 4 to my husband. He got himself a sim only contract and put SIM card in phone. Phone is not reading SIM card and has no service. What should I do?

Gave my old iPhone 4 to my husband. He has now got himself a sim only contract, but SIM card is not registering with phone and showing no service. What can I do?

Take it to the Cell provider's store and let them do it.
Just make sure the phone is completely wiped.

  • HT1843 Not reading sim card

My iPhone will not read my sim care.

If your iPhone is under warranty then you should have no problem seeking assistance at an Apple store.... but before you do, and I don't know if with SIM problems you still have access to standard menus but on the assumption that you do: try opening Settings, hit General and scroll down to Reset and then do a Reset Network Settings. Often a good place to cure intermittent network issues and maybe you are experiencing something along these lines.

how to solve this problem. I don't have any sim cards that came with iphone.
Please help out to solve this problem.
It sounds like the phone was hacked or jailbroken, and updating it locked it to the original carrier. As it is not possible to update to any version other than the current one (5.1) the fact that you updated to 4.1 pretty much confirms the phone was hacked. There is no solution that you can get in an Apple forum.

  • HT4972 my iphone is not installed sim card.so I can't update my iphone.

my iphone is not installed sim card.so I can't update my iphone.

That's correct, without a supported SIM card you can't set up the phone.
If your carrier supports unlocking, you can use any SIM after your phone has been unlocked by the provider:
iPhone: Wireless carrier support and features
    iPhone: About unlocking
Follow the instructions in this article to unlock your iPhone for use with different carriers.
Follow these instructions to initiate the unlocking process for your iPhone:
Check if your carrier offers unlocking. Only your carrier can unlock your iPhone.
Contact your carrier and request an unlock. You may need to meet certain requirements to qualify for unlocking. After your carrier submits the unlocking request, it may take up to seven days.
Once you receive confirmation from your carrier that your iPhone unlock has been processed, proceed to the next section.
If you have a SIM card from a carrier that is different from your current carrier, and you've received confirmation from your current carrier that your iPhone is unlocked, follow these steps:
Eject your SIM card and insert the new SIM card.
    Complete the setup process.
If you do not currently have another SIM card you can use, follow these steps to complete the process:
    Back up your iPhone.
    Erase your iPhone.
Complete the setup assistant and restore your backup.
    Additional Information
If you experience issues or receive the following error message displayed in iTunes or on your device, follow the steps below:"The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported. Only compatible SIM cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate iPhone. Please insert the SIM card that came with your iPhone or visit a supported carrier store."
    Restore your iPhone.
Contact your carrier to verify that the unlock was applied in your carrier's system.

  • Iphone not recognizing SIM card

Since I bought my Iphone about 5 months ago, a few times it would say that there is no SIM card inserted, when in fact there had been one. I would remove and reinsert the card or do a hard shut down and restart and the problem would go away. Yesterday, as I was scanning my applications a error message came on saying it did not recognize a network. Then I noticed the functions on would not work. Basically it froze. So I restarted it. Once the apple logo went off there was an icon of a USB to be connected to iTunes, with no other functions working. I then patched it to my laptop and the error message on the laptop said that there was no SIM card in the Iphone. thinking its a SIM card problem I inserted someone elses SIM in my iphone. Same problem. I inserted my SIM in another iphone. No problem. It was not a SIM card issue. Without the iphone recognizing the SIM card the phone could not even be reset.
I took the phone to the Service provider in Malaysia MAXIS. They said the iphone is defective and had to be taken in for repair. The problem is they will most probably replace the phone, However there policy with Apple they say is that I have to WAIT 6-8 WEEKS for a new set. How ridiculous is that?
The worry I have now is that all my apps that I bought, what will happen to them? All the online games that I have been leveling up for months, what happens there? I could never sync my phone with my laptop when it came to the apps. It just would not sync!
It is disappointing to think that Apple does not have a solution to customer software and program issues.

You're right - it is ridiculous however thats not a decision made by Apple, but by Maxis. If Apple were asked to rpovide immediate replacements, they would do so and Maxis would have to pay the price. Under warranty, in other countries we can go into an Apple store and get an immediate replacement.
