  • My phone is stuck in recovery mode, and iTunes will only let me restore to factory settings.  My question: Can I restore from iTunes backup after restoring to factory settings?

I attempted to update to iOS 8 and now my phone is stuck in recovery mode, and iTunes will only let me restore to factory settings.  My question: Can I restore from iTunes backup after restoring to factory settings?

    Hi, kformagg
I would say yes. I once had the same problem (iPhone 5, IOS 7) and first restored to factory settings and after that from iCloud backup.
    It worked very well.

  • I just updated my iphone to ios7 and I keep getting stuck at the 'Set up your iPhone' screen. I click 'Restore from Itunes Backup', but it only ends up restarting after restoring and fails to get past the 'Set up your iPhone' screen. Any ideas?

Normally, I would suggest restoring the iPad and uninstall and reinstall iTunes but you have done both of those things - more times than you ever imagined!
Have you thought about turning auto syncing off?
Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
If you do this you can backup the iPad right away before it syncs. You may want to go into all of the iTunes tabs and just make sure that all of the current content on the iPad is selected to sync before you actually do sync.
This doesn't solve the problem, but it would prevent the automatic sync and erasing content. Hopefully, in the next few days- when iOS 5 is released - you will also be relieved of this weird iPad behavior - since the iOS devices are supposed to become PC free.
BTW - and this is no excuse for what you are experiencing, but I have found that some of the game apps that I had on my iPad turned out to be quite troublesome and after I removed them, my problems went away. I know that is almost sacrilege with regard to the Angry Birds addiction .... But I'm just saying ...

  • HT201407 restoring from itunes backup

I believe I restored my phone and now It's on the "Set Up Your iPhone" screen. So when I click on "Restore from iTunes Backup" and connect it to iTunes my pc backs it up or whatever and then after it finishes which only takes about 1-2 minutes my phone will still be on the "Connect to iTunes" screen. And I keep unplugging my phone from my pc trying to see if that will make a difference and the screen will go away and it willl come back on but it doesn't. Any suggestions on what could be the problem? I really don't want to have to set it up as a "New iPhone" and have to start all over. And no I don't have a wifi connection that's why I was trying to avoid having to set it up all over again. But I might just have to. Anybody know what the problem could be? Or do I have to wait a certain amount of time after it syncs to my pc to give it some time to come back on?? PLEASE HELP!!!

I was becoming a little impatient so I just went ahead and set my phone back up as a new iPhone. Hopefully my pictures come back up there

  • HT3406 If I choose "restore from iTunes backup" to move everything from old phone.  Will I still be able to use the old phone for music and apps?  Can the old phone be docked up to the computer?  Or will the new and old phone overwrite each other in some

If I choose "restore from iTunes backup" to move everything from old iphone to a new one, will I still be able to use the old phone for music and apps?  Can the old phone be docked up to that same computer every now and then?  Or will the new and old phone overwrite each other in some way?  In other words, are the two phones treated as different devices when the "restore" option is used to set up the new phone?   Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can use the old iPhone as an iPod touch.

    Hey jtom234412,
Thanks for the question. Based on the information you have provided, it sounds like your device is not detected in iTunes for Windows. The following resource may help resolve this issue:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

Furthermore, if your device is in recovery mode (displaying an iTunes symbol, with a plug), see the relevant information under Step 5.
    Thanks,

  • Can not access Viber messages, photos & videos after making restore from iTunes backup

    Hello Viber Team,
I have sent several help requests about my Viber issue but I did not receive any reply from anyone at viber's support team.
It's highly seems the new viber app v5.1 which released on November 18, 2014 for iOS devices has a bug which deletes all messages and call logs once the app is updated to the new version. Because it requires for re-activation of already active viber account (as a new user) which causes this issue.
As mentioned in viber website, the only effective method to restore in-app viber data is to restore from either iCloud or iTunes backup. I've tried both methods while I had backup from my viber messages in both backups. But after iphone is restored the app, on the first attempt to open the viber app, it crashes and deletes all messages and a popup window appears which asks for re-activation (while the account has already been actived) and I did NOT deactivated or NOT deleted before doing restore).
I have also reviewed the other people's feedbacks in AppStore and it seems that I'm not the only person encountering with this technical issue. I'm  using iPhone 5S with iOS 7.1.2 and tried at least 10 times to retrieve my viber messages by backup restore, and not sure if the device's 64bit SoC has anything to cause this problem.
Please inform me to find a solution for this disaster issue, or at least let me know if you're acknowledged and are analyzing the issue to provide a fix in your next update.
    Thank you.

First, restoring from a backup you made AFTER messing with restrictions isn;t going to help you. Doing so will put the problem right back on your phone. So unless you have an earlier backup - you may not - you will have to restore as a new device.
Second, don't know where you buy your cables but an Apple lightning cable is $19 direct from Apple. Sometimes they're cheaper if you buy from Amazon or other online retailers. And even less if you buy a reputable third-party cable (never buy off brand!).
finally, a new cable does not necessarily mean it works, though that would be unusual. First try resetting your iPhone. This will work even if it's in recovery mode. Simultaneously press and hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears. Try again to see if the problem persists.
If that works, your good to go. If not, report back. But again, remember, restoring that backup will place the restrictions back on your iPhone.

  • I restored from iTunes backup but it goes back to 'welcome to your new iphone'

My iphone 5 was replaced today because of a faulty power button. I had done an iTunes backup this morning, choosing to backup iTunes purchases and the apps as well.
In order to restore the backup to my new phone I had to set it up as a new phone and update to 7.1.2. All good so far.
I then chose to restore from backup (dated today) and it all seemed fine until the restore was complete and the iphone restarted and I was taken back to the 'Welcome to Your New iPhone' screen. Thankfully my photos and contacts have come across but none of my iTunes library, emails or most of my apps. What I'd really like to retrieve are the notes I had in Notemaster...lots of important details about trip bookings, finances etc.
I suspect an incomplete/corrupt backup was made this morning as I think I'd used about 47gb on my phone and the backup file in my application support folder is 11.8gb (although I don't imagine that folder would include all the video & music from my iTunes library??). I thought I could go back to the backup I made in June but it looks like it was overwritten by the new backup I made today...is that right?
Can anyone please suggest a fix or am I going to have to set it up as a new phone in order to get past the 'welcome to your new iphone' screen. First I'd somehow have to back up all my photos and contacts or I'll probably lose them.
Actually, I've just downloaded iBackupBot and I can see all my notes in the backup I made this morning so they do still exist even though the app didn't download in the restore, in fact it looks like a lot of my user app files are there. What do I do now? My head hurts h e l p . . . p l e a s e

I don't think that you need to restore from the backup again. If you see nothing at all in the App Store. Try closing the app completely, reset your iPad and them try again.
In order to close apps in iOS 7, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Restoring from iTunes backup of my 4s onto my new 5s is missing all my photo albums

My laptop is being repaired and therefore I have nothing from my iTunes library such as photo albums, music etc, except what is currently on my iPhone 4s. I may or may not be able to recover what is on my old laptop and won't know for several more weeks.
Meanwhile, I asked Apple prior to purchasing my 5s if I would be able to transfer EVERYTHING that is currently on my 4s, into it, I was told "absolutely".
So yesterday I used my friends outdated but functional laptop to download the newest iTunes and proceeded to backup my 4s. Then I restored from that backup onto my new 5s. On the first attempt the 5s was missing all photo albums (only had camera roll and videos) as well as 75% of my apps and what seemed like my entire music library! however upon closer inspection it seems to have had all of the music listed but not on the iPhone! each song had a little cloud with a downward arrow protruding from it. Not sure what that is about because the majority of my music is from discs and downloads that I manually added to my iTunes library, not from purchases made in the iTunes Store. Regardless, it does seem I have those songs available so this isn't the problem. The missing photo albums and apps is the issue. So I attempted a second restore of the same backup file. This time the apps seemed to have all come through but still no photo albums. I am now underway on my third attempt in the hopes that they will materialize the same way the missing apps did on round two. I will know in two hours when it finishes but I am not optimistic.
Can anyone help me sort this out?

Actually it only restored about 1000 of 4000 songs, so 3000 songs missing as well. And the 3rd attempt didn't yield any more songs or photo albums.

  • TS3694 My iPad 2 (16GB, WiFi only) went into recover mode and will not allow restoration from iTunes.  Error message 3014.  Anyone come across this and a possible solution?

Error code 3014 question.  iPad 2 (WiFi only, 16GB) went into recover mode.  I am not able to restore from iTunes.  iPad had the latest software & iMac is latest as well.  iPad has very few applications... < 6GB used prior to this.
    Any help.

Sorry but that was a completely pointless post.

  • Error When Trying to Restore from iTunes Backup

I had to erase and re-install the operating system. I thought I had iTunes covered by burning an iTunes backup to a CD, but when trying to restore iTunes from the CD it will restore a few songs and then give an error message that it was unable to read or write to my hard drive. I looks as though it restored the music that I owned and put on the computer but not the tunes I had purchased from the iTunes store and not the playlists. I did not know enough to burn the /music file. Is there anything I can do to get the burned CD to restore?

Contacts are not part of the backup. They are seperate and either you need to sync them with an email program such as outlook or use icloud mail, contacts, and calendars on the phone. Unless you did that then the contacts are gone.

  • Problems to restore from iTunes backup after upgrade to iOS6

Could anyone tell me where I should be able to find my taken photos with the iPhone and the Notes I have made in the backup? In other words, where should the iTunes backup be stored on my computer and would I be able to transfer it to my iPhone4 with the iOS6 without restoring it from the backup as that doesnt work for whatever reason. I have tried it a million times and I have officially given up to get all information for all Apps back but my photos and Notes would be fantastic.
