  • How can I restore my iPhone 4's iOS5 backup without restoring iOS if the option to "Restore from Backup" doesn't appear when I right click it in the device list?

(Lengthy question, I know Let me explain.)
A few days ago, I decided to clear out the music on my computer. So, I copied everything out of iTunes to my external hard drive (podcasts, music, movies, tv shows, books, and apps) and deleted all that I could find, including the iTunes folder. I forgot that the iTunes library files were in there, and those went too; unsurprisingly, I was greeted with an empty library when I next opened iTunes.  After adding all my files back from my external hard drive, everything's all good there - no lost files, everything seems fine. However, since my library is a "new" library, iTunes wishes to erase everything on my iPhone 4. Which is also fine, for everything except my apps.  I'd really rather not lose all my application settings and data that are saved in my backup.  But, I cannot just "Restore from Backup" by right-clicking my device in the list in iTunes, so... I haven't synced my iPhone since I did this, so all of my data is still on there, but it's in the backup as well.  If I have to erase all iTunes content, I definitely have to be able to restore the backup over it since I don't want to lose all my settings and Springboard layout.  I'd prefer not to restore iOS because I don't want to go from iOS5 to 5.0.1, nor do I have 8 hours to download the IPSW file on my super-speedy internet connection   Any guidance on restoring my iPhone from its backup?

Here's an interesting bit: iTunes will let me restore my iPod touch from backup: it's still running iOS 4.3.3. I figured as much... there's backups showing in the Preferences -> Devices list for both devices (and even my old, long gone iPod touch 2G), but my iPhone (on iOS5) isn't giving me any such option. I remember I had to downgrade before to get the backup restored (something went haywire in the setup assistant, and I couldn't restore a backup from iTunes there)... If it was possible to go to iOS 5.0 rather than 5.0.1 I would just do the same thing again, but iOS 5.0.1 isn't an option. I attached a screenshot. Hopefully Apple can get this nonsense sorted out; I think iOS 5 might be the root of this, somehow.

  • Unusual iTunes problem when restoring iOS firmware(s).

As the topic says, I am having a very strange issue with iTunes and restoring iOS to not only my iPad, but also to my iPod Touch 2nd Gen. So far the only way I have been able to remedy the problem seems to be manually removing iTunes and all API's and/or Frameworks via Terminal; and then re-installing iTunes. For the last several months I have been using iTunes 10.1.1/2 and when I've had to restore my iPad, I have ran into the following problem:
I put my device info DFU Mode to update and here is what happens, it extracts the software as usual and proceeds to restore. It gets nearly to the end of the restore, approximately 97-98% in iTunes, just before the Verifying Restore phase. And it simply hangs there, I have let the device sit for 10+ minutes and does not move. As I said, the only way I can fix it is to completely remove iTunes and re-install. And here is where things get even stranger yet.
A day after I had previously restored, I had to restore again because the iPad AppStore would not open properly on my iPad, and also on the previous day I had uninstalled/re-installed iTunes. And the hanging problem once again occurred, I am not sure why, _*but it seems like every time I restart*_ my MacBook Pro something in iTunes becomes corrupted for some reason and the only way to resolve the issue is a(n) uninstall/reinstall of iTunes.
If anyone has anything to add to help with, it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

    Error 20, 21, 23, 26, 28, 29, 34, 36, 37, and 40
These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. Use the steps to troubleshoot security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See the steps under the heading "Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store." If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart.

  • HT201210 Restore iPhone 4 to iOS5??

I tried to restore ios 5 to my iphone 4.  Dont' like current versioni of ios 6.  Received message that device is not eligible.  It was an ios 5 device until I updated it to 6.  Apple won't let me restore it??  Not impressed with the new Apple Inc. since Jobs demise. May have to sell my stock.

Hope it helps and if you decide to voice an opinion other than apple is great be careful because simple minded people are on here too. Also if u google iOS 6 problems with i4 your not the only one with this problem. There are thousands if not millions with the same issues.

  • Ios 7.0.2 Kills my phone need to restore ios 6.1.3,

You cannot restore to 6.1.3. Apple does not support downgrading. Go into Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings and that should help your performance. It will not affect your data, but will delete wifi passwords.

  • Hello week ago I downloaded ios 7 beta on the iphone. I didn't like. You can restore ios 6.1.3? вопрос.

Hello week ago I downloaded ios 7 beta on the iphone. I didn't like. You can restore ios 6.1.3?

Unless you are a developer you should never run iOS betas and even they are told to use it on a phone that is not mission critical, in otherwrds your every day phone. iOS betas are very unstable which is why there is that warning. Sadly there is nothing we can do for you here. If you are  a developer talk in that fourm for help, also you would be covered by a NDA. The other option is to now wait till Autumn for its release...

Are you aware that 4.2.1 is the last iOS version compatible with a 3G? You never could install iOS 6 on it.

  • Want to Fresh Restore iOS 7.0.4 ....

I am using iOS 7.0.4. Using since 1 year . Now I want to restore fresh iOS7.0.4 again. Is it possible to do now without os upgrading to iOS8.1.2 .
    Thank You

You cannot "restore" iOS 7.0.4 as a new device through iTunes as the newest iOS version that your iPhone qualifies for (currently iOS 8.1.2) will be downloaded and installed.
You can do virtually the same thing from your device itself without having a forced iOS update if you do the following on the device:
Go to Settings/Reset/Erase All Content and Settings
If you wish to make a backup before performing this operation, go ahead and do so.
This will wipe out all user data/apps/media/music/etc and will return the device to a clean state without updating the iOS...your device will remain at the iOS version that it is currently on. If you want to restore from a backup later (however, it sounds like you do not want to), you can do so after the "Erase All Content and Settings" is completed and the iPad is being set up as a new device. Otherwise, just proceed with setting up the device from scratch.

  • Why app in my iPad 2 often quit itself? Restore iOS 5 already.

Why app in my iPad 2 often quit itself? Restore iOS 5 already.
It's happen during I use the apps even Safari too.

There have been other users who have reported frequent app crashes after installing iOS 5. If you have restored your iPad already, but you restored from a backup, the next step maybe to restore to factory settings. Then try syncing your apps back onto the iPad a few at a time. This way you can maybe pin down any particular app that may be causing the iPad to crash.
Before I would go to all of that work, I would try some basic things in hopes that something not quite so drastic will help.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Another way that you might be able to figure out which app is causing the problem is to close each app after you are done using it. It may seem tedious - and under normal circumstances you are not supposed to have to close apps since the iPad is supposed to allocate memory wherever needed and do all of this behind the scenes - but it is less drastic than removing all of your apps and syncing them back to the iPad a few at a time.
To close open apps, Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus (-) sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If you are only using one app and the iPad crashes while you are using it, that may indicate that there is a problem with that app. If the iPad continues to crash no matter what you do, then a restore to factory settings, a trip to the genius bar or a call to Apple may be in order.
