Phone will NOT turn on after synching & updating (or trying) to ios 6. ? ..... Is it REQUIRED to "restore" to factory setting? When researching, I read that you will get an option to restore from back up. I am not receiving any options on iTunes.... restore only & basically it is telling me I will lose everything.

I am reading on this site about the error I am getting and it wants me to change some files that I am not comfortable messing with. Mainly because it is like a foreign language. Will the store do this for me or tell me if it is neccessary?

The latest version is 5.1.1. If you are trying to update to 5.1 that is your problem; it can't be done.

Connect it to iTunes and then put the device in DFU mode by holding the power button and home button for 10 seconds, then release the power button only while still holing the home button.
iTunes will prompt you to restore, try that and it should work.

Cconnect it to your computer with the latest version of iTunes installed.

I am unsure of what version the phone was currently running on before this because I have another iphone that's my primary phone and have not used this one in about a month. I do not believe it was updated to IOS 7.

Try a Hard Reset,
press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

It sometimes has the apple on the screen, or says it needs to be charged, or is all white, black, or yellow. I have tried charging it, leaving it alone for a while and turning it off and back on. Nothing has worked. What should I try to do??? Help please!!!

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

My phone was working fine last night. Plugged it into the charger and went to bed. Woke up this am to it off. It would not turn on. I tried a different charger and a different outlet. Contacts are designed to be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service.
Pictures taken with the device are designed to regularly be copied off the device to a computer as would be done with any digital camera.
If you have failed to use the device as designed it may be too late to recovery anything.
Is the device regularly backed up to a computer via iTunes? If so, the most recent backup (when restored to a replacement iOS device) should contain all contacts and pictures as of when the backup was created.
