Verizon was having a problem on their end, perhaps a server down for some repair or updating. However you were already aware that there was an on-going problem in your own posting and you decided to continue on.I can understand you wanting this done and trying to save the $15.00 fee. However I would have waited a bit longer until the Verizon issue had been corrected. Yes it is frustrating but again you know in advance of a problem , I can understand that this is most upsetting for you but never try to perform any change when a problem is there and I also do not like to do business on a weekend with no live tech support available. I'm sure this will all work out for you if given some time. Sorry.

I have an iphone 3G, and I am trying to update my phone to the 4.2.1 software, when I begin to update my phone it tells me that all the files have to be backed up on my computer first. The issue is my phone has been hooked up to my computer backing up my phone for 6 hours and still no update, in fact maybe 10% of my info from my phone is backed up after 6 hours???? So is it because my phone is so old or is it the number of apps??? I have updated my itunes and everything. Check for 'others' in iTunes against your iPhone.
Restore from a previous backup to reclaim some of it.
Still want more, Restore in iTunes, setup as New.

Try to sync after deleting a bunch of stuff, see if that clears up space.
If that doesn't work, then back up your device and then restore from that backup. That should do the trick.
