HT201210 updating problem of ios 4.2.1 to 5.1.1 from iPhone 3Gs

when i'm trying to force update of my 3Gs using the official ios 5.1.1 file via iTunes (using shift key + update button alowing selection of the restore file) it keeps telling me that the "file of internal programmation" is uncompatible...
please help !!!
regards to all

First, confirm that you really do have an iPhone 3GS and not an iPhone 3G. Look at the model number on the back of the iPhone. If it says "A1241", then you have an iPhone 3G for which iOS 4.2.1 is the final version it can run.
If you confirm that you have an iPhone 3GS, then you probably have download the incorrect update file. It's different for every model of iPhone. Try allowing iTunes to obtain the correct file and perform the update. You may need to clear out any previous update files; I don't recall where Windows keeps them, but if you search the web for "iphone update location Windows" you should find the path to them.
Regards.

The thing i've done are : reinstalling iTunes, restarting iPod, doing all the articles on Apple's support section, except for the part where I need multiple computers (I will do that in 2 days), I updated my BIOS and still when I enable C-State it gets into a restart loop. Most of the users with this error said enabling C-State got them rid of it.

    No.
You can look this up yourself:

  • HT201210 Updated my iPad iOS last night and lost 'street view' on maps.  Is apple ignoring this loss of an existing application on maps?  What good is the update.  How do I get rid do the update and back to what I wanted and had?

Updated my iPad iOS last night and lost 'street view' on maps.  Is apple ignoring this deletion of streetview on maps and how can I have it restored?

Streetview is the property of Google. The new application not using Google services anymore (for many reasons you can find around the web), Streetview is gone too. Just download the free streetview app from the appstore

  • HT1476 After update to either iOS 7.0.3 or 7.0.4, my iPhone 4S won't charge. I'm using charger and cable that came with the phone. Nothing else changed.

I'm using charger and cable that came with the phone. Nothing else changed.
I think it was the update the iOS 7.0.4 that I did last night. I woke up this morning with my battery almost drained and the charging function going off and on every few seconds, like it would start charging then disconnect, then reconnect repeatedly.
I've tried restarting the phone and hard restarting the phone several times, but I'm getting really low on battery by now (under 20%).
I've tried cleaning the connector with a little isopropyl alcohol, and blowing it out with compressed air. Though I can't be 100% certain, it's very unlikely my connector died exactly at the same time I was updating my phone. Especially since it appears I'm not the only one with this problem.
And now, after the last hard reset, my phone doesn't even recognize the charger at all, or being connected with the USB cable to my MacBook Pro.
I turned off my phone so when I go to the Apple Store it will power up one last time, but besides that I'm out of ideas.

Just back from Genius Bar and two other people at my table had the same problem. Their 4Ss aren't charging either. One of them had a fried board according to the tech. At least my HW checked out OK. It just won't charge.
The tech tried to tell me that it was because my connector was corroded, which I told him was kind of a weak argument since evidence points to that the update has something to do with it.
They're seeing a lot of these and it looks like they already have a script.
Luckily I had enough juice left to recycle it for like $180, so I picked up a 5S with a new 2 year.
It looked to me like this is going to blow up pretty big. Like class action lawsuit big.
If you have an iPhone 4 or 4S, and you haven't updated it to iOS 7, don't for now. See if a patch comes out that doesn't brick your phone. Or get an induction charger maybe? Don't just update and expect absolutely no problems because too many people are having problems right now.

The update to iOS 5.0 & higher is an erase/restore deal, so make sure your data is on your computer before you attempt to update.

  • IOS 4.3.5 killed mobile data on my iPhone 3Gs.

I updates to 4.3.5 and my iPhone 3Gs and then this happend:
The phone does not sync my mails anymore!!!! <---- major problem for me.
The WiFi logo shows but the phone is not on wifi. It will not connect to any wifi router!!
There is no connection to AppStrore, Gamecenter, Safari and so on.
Yes I have tried switching off, resetting and all that. Still nothing. Is there any possibility to do a "rollback" to the last backup? (before i updated)
    Pls help, im desperate.

I performed "Restore - Setup as New Device" like what Ingo2711 advised; and I followed the Guide attached and backed-up everything as much as I can.
Now everything is working fine as before.
Email, AppStore, Safari, iPod works ! ... along with everything else.
But yes, it will wipe out all the music, videos, photos, SMS'.
    Thanks again gdmacguy and Ingo2711.
I-ChS, I hope it works for you too.

  • Problem syncing iCal from iPhone (3GS) to Macbook, any ideas?

    Hi,
I've always synced my iPhone & Mac via a cable and never had a problem until a few months ago when my calender entries on my iPhone stopped syncing to my Macbook. But if I create an event on my Macbook then later sync my iPhone the event appears on my phone's calender, so it only appears to be a one-way problem from phone to Mac. Phone is iPhone 3GS & Mac system is 10.6.8 Any ideas?

Like it or not, you need third-party software and I don't know of anything free that works. Get this:

  • Camera icon on lock screen in iOS 5.1 only makes lock screen jump on iPhone 3GS

I upgraded my iPhone 3GS to iOS 5.1 just now - and found the first bug within the first few seconds.
The camera quick access icon on the lock screen only makes the lock screen jump up and down a little, so about half of the photo app's lower bar, where the shutter, still/video icon etc. is, becomes visible for less than a second. And that's it.
I can't believe that nobody tested this on a 3GS.
It seems Apple got completely lost in stuffing in more and more frills and gadgets, everything after iOS 3.1.3 is way beyond a simple, clear and easy to use interface, and every little frill introduces more and more bugs and flaws. Having something simply and clear has been something that Apple was really good at - but that seems to be history.
Man, I'm SO annoyed - and SO disappointed.

Sorry, I meant swiping, not tapping.
It took me three reboots and one restore from the previous backup, only after that it started working as expected.
I also noticed that a lot of ram kept being marked as used although not a single app was running in the background.
Anyway - why did it need to be a swipe instead of a tap? One can only access it after a home button press - safe enough to not accidentally activate it.
I miss the possibility like in iOS 3 to assign the home button double-click to the camera start. THAT was really handy.
