HT201210 what if itunes says my iphone is in recovery mode?

I plugged my iphone into my laptop to download the new update for the iphone.  After some time passed I was notified that the update couldn't be downloaded and that my iphone was in recovery mode and needed to be restored to factory settings.  How do I avoid restoring my iphone?! I have a lot of informations stored on it and it was working fine an hour ago.
Sincerely,
   Amanda Craig

Reset, hold both Home and Power buttons until the iPhone restarts, usually about 10 seconds of holding both buttons. If this does not work, keep off power source for 1 minute. Try Reset again. If this does not work most often you have to connect iPhone to iTunes and Restore as it is telling you.

I see the "Connect to iTunes" screen and the device appears in iTunes. Every time I connect to iTunes, iTunes says my device is in recovery mode and has to be recovered so I do so. The same recovery message shows in iTunes after iTunes is complete. I have a iPod touch 64gb. I have no idea what OS is on it now that iTunes has tried to recover it and erased all info.

OK. So something went wrong. Restore it and see if it happens again.

  • ITunes says mu iPod is in recovery mode and i need to restore it, but when I click the "restore" it doesn't load and my summary says "n/a" for everything. Why is this/

The "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode, use iTunes to restore it" message keeps popping up over and over

First, in iTunes, launch Preferences and go to the Devices tab. Check the date and time of the last backup. If it is recent you can restore it. However, if you mean you have the photos back in your Camera Roll then the backup was already restored. To get your music and apps back it should just be necessary to click "Sync".

  • Itunes says my ipod is in recovery mode, but the ipod is fine.. help

  • ITunes says my iPod is in Recovery Mode...

When i connect my iPod, iTunes says it is in "recovery mode" and should be restored. It plays music without any issues however i cannot edit my library as i can't connect it to iTunes.
I do not have all my music backed up and don't want to lose it all, so understandably do not want to restore it unneccesarily.
Is there a way around this "recovery mode"?

Try changing your iPod's drive letter:

  • Itunes says my phone is in recovery mode just after restoring it?

My itunes always pops up automatically when I plug my phone in, and for the past 3 or 4 months it claims that my phone is in recovery mode everytime itunes opens. I have restored it countless times with no avail. My phone will turn back on completely restored and itunes will still state that my phone is in recovery mode. Meaning I cannot sync my phone whatsoever and it restores back to 7/29/2011 everytime. Any chance there is a solution to this?

If it is in recovery mode the data is already lost. Restore it, hopefully there is a current backup, and move on with life.

  • HT1414 iPhone 4S in recovery mode

Can I save the photos that are already on my phone when iTunes says my iPhone is in recovery mode?  Is my only option to Restore my phone?

From recovery mode, yes, your only option is to restore your iPhone ... but ...
This article, referenced in the HT1414 article you attached above, has a section called "How to restore from a backup" under both the iCloud backup and the iTunes backup section.
So, hopefully you have backed up everything on your iPhone, and can then recover the backups as explained:

  • Fix iPhone 4S in recovery mode after updating from IOS5 to 6.1.3

How do i get my iPhone 4S out of recovery mode without losing all my data? I am not very tech savvy and too scared to do anything without instruction. My phone went into recovery mode when updating from IOS5 to 6.1.3 (or whatever was the latest yesterday). Oh how I wish I hadn't. I think I want my IOS5 back!
Can I use Google Maps on 6.1.3?

Okay I have read that info but the iTunes sreens I am experiencing has different messages.
1st = iTunes has dectected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore the iPhone before it can be used in iTunes.
2nd = iPhone is in recovery mode. Restore
3rd = Are you sure you want to restore the iPhone "iPhone" to its factory settings? All of your media and other data will be erased, and the newest version of iPhone software will be installed.
iTunes will verify the restore with Apple. After this process is complete, you will have the option to restore your contacts, calendars, text messaes and other settings.
.. now will my music, apps and photos be saved too? Here are the three messages.. you can see that the iTunes settings/screen configuation is not like those in the tutorial in the link. There is nothing in my "summary" and no restore to back up shown at this point. So I am wary to proceed.
Thanks again to my helpers. Also I don't mind if the whole update was aborted.

  • HT201210 my new iphone 4 is stuck with "USB connect to itunes".  I put it in recovery mode last night, but it doesn't change.  Itunes recognizes the phone and says it's in recovery mode, but when I do a restore, nothing changes.

my new iphone 4 is stuck with "USB connect to itunes".  I put it in recovery mode last night.  Itunes recognizes the phone and says it's in recovery mode, but when I do a restore, nothing changes.

it says "itunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode.  you must restore this iphone before it can be used with itunes."  I click OK
then I click the restore button
Then the box says "Are you sure you want to restore the iphone to it's factory settings?  all of your.....etc."  I click Restore and Update
then it goes into software update
at the end of the software update it says "Itunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode...."
All this time, the screen of the iphone stays on with USB to Itunes
I might add that while the phone was in it's first attempt at recovery mode, it was accidentally unplugged.
    any suggestions?

  • I plug my iphone 5s into my macbook pro, itunes says: The iPhone "iPhone" cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (1723).

Every time I plug my iPhone 5s (32 GB) into my macbook pro, iTunes says: The iPhone "iPhone" cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (1723). And none of my recently bought songs or my ringtones will transfer to my iPhone. I have iOS 8.1.2. I have only had this iPhone for about a month and a half. A week ago when I plugged it in it would say something along the lines of " This iPhone cannot be synced because the Photo library is not set up. Please try again later." What does that even mean? And now it is saying that it can't sync because of an unknown error. Well, how do I fix this? I have not yet downloaded the Yosemite update because it got horrible reviews and everyone I've talked to said their computer has gotten extra slow because of it so I was wondering if I need to download Yosemite so my iPhone will sync. I have tried turning my computer on and off, quitting and reopening iTunes, restarting my iPhone, and nothing has worked. I would really like to be able to transfer my music and ringtones etc. onto my phone.
    Thanks you!

You have told us you have iOS 8.1.2, and a non-current version of OS X   Do you also have an old iTunes?  Current is 12.0.1.  I'm quite certain iTunes 12 is required to sync with iOS 8.
The current iPhoto version is 9.6.  You are probably behind there as well, and that likely caused the first "photo ..." error.  As you may know, iOS is changing its approach to managing photos in iOS 8, so I would imagine it would be important to be current with this application.

  • HT6058 iPhone put into Recovery Mode after updating to 7.0.4, and now iTunes can't restore it from my computer. What do I do?

Once my iPhone 4 updated the iOS to 7.0.4, it immediately went into Recovery Mode, with the iTunes symbol. I plugged it into my computer, and it says I need to restore the iPhone. I click Restore, but in says it can't connect because of my network connection. I've followed every troubleshooting issue from the support section related that issue, but it STILL won't connect and download the recovery.
What do I do to get my iPhone fixed? And why did 7.0.4 cause this?

Don't worry about that. iPhone stuck in recovery mode always happens when you update the iOS on your iPhone. There are two ways to solve it.
First is is to put your iPhone in DFU mode.
    Step 1. Turn off iPhone
Step 2. Hold down the Power and Home button.
Step 3. When you see the Apple logo, release the power button but continue holding the Home button down.
Step 4. Open iTunes and wait for it to tell you that it’s in restore mode.
If DFU mode can't solve the problem, I'm afraid the only solution is to try some 3rd party software, like iPhone data recovery or something like that. You may simply try the tutorial here: How to Fix iPhone that is Stuck in Recovery Mode.

Please stop altering the fonts, it makes reading postings extremely difficult.  If help is desired, making postings difficult to read is not the way to get help.
Put the device in DFU mode (google it), then restore.

See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 to restore the phone using Recovery Mode. You will lose all content on the phone. This is the only way to bypass the lock screen if you don't have the last computer the phone was synced to.
