HT201210 why does my phone keeps turning on and off by itself ?

Hi, my phone is been acting weird. My phone keeps turning on and off by itself and it frezzes. What should i do ?

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Why does my phone keep turning on and off repeatedly?

My phone was acting up so I turned it off and when I turned it back on it seemed to start normally but then it started the spinning screen for about 3 minutes, then a second of blue screen and started back up and just keeps doing that.  It never properly turns on.  I had to hold the home button and power button until it stopped.  I did try to do a hard reset but that didn't work either.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • HT1766 Hi my phone keeps turning on and off

Hi, my phone keeps turning on and off and won't charge

    Hello Guerlyne18,
If your iPhone is sporadically shutting off and having issues charging I would suggest following the steps in the following article, including restoring and setting up as new.
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
If necessary, you may need to contact Apple support is the issues continues after restore.
    Issue not resolved
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?

Try this. It worked for a few users after a drop.
Turn the iPad over and give it a very HARD slap on the back. May take several slaps.

  • My Galaxy 4 keeps turning on and off by itself and the battery gets pretty warm

I have a Galaxy S4 and it keeps turning on and off by itself.  As well the battery usage is pretty quick and the battery keeps getting pretty warm.  Any thoughts.

Thanks to all of you for your input. Fortunately, for me, the phone was still under warranty so there's no expense to me.  However, during the course of my conversation with the Tier 2 tech, it was mentioned that a recent update MAY have been the problem.  But after doing a refresh, the problem continued with the phone turning on and off all by itself.  That was the whole problem.  But, the battery life went down dramatically within a few hours after it had been charged all night.  I was told that this was due to the phone cycling and off.  As well, even the safe mode didn't solve the problem that would allow me to use the phone without being able to use the apps.  I had pulled the battery to let it set for a while but with no success.  I also pulled the SIM card before they refreshed the update but, still no go.  Anyhow, the end result was that the Tech that I was talking to then transferred me to another Tech -- I guess someone a little higher up -- and I was then informed that they were going to send me another phone.  I don't recall that anyone placed the blame on Samsung or Verizon.  So, there ya go.  Thanks again.

Make sure you have the Current Version of iTunes Installed on your computer
    iTunes free download from www.itunes.com/download
    Then See Here  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
You may need to try this More than Once...  Be sure to Follow ALL the Steps...
Take your time... Pay particular attention to Steps 3 and 4.
Some users have reported as many as 8 or 9 attempts were necessary before success.
However... If the Device has been Hacked / Modified... This will not necessarily work.

  • My iPad keeps turning on and off by itself

Hi! My iPad just keeps turning on and off by itself. I tried turning it off "ON MY OWN" and turning it back on but it keeps returning to the issue. Is there anyone that can help with my issue? I have the "iPad Mini" . There are some times where it will just stop and next thing you know, I go to a app and it returns to the issue :( . ( BY THE WAY, I did update the iPad to the  final  update , but it still continues to turn on and off by itself WITHOUT me even touching it. What should I do????

Restore the iPad completely (this is a fresh install of the iOS not just an update).
    1) Backup your iPad. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
    2) Restore the iOS via iTunes. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
    3) Restore from your Backup created in step 1. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766

My phone keeps turning on and offf

        Hey johneigh1!
A power cycling phone sure can get old really fast so please know I'm ready to find the perfect solution to keep it on until you say otherwise. At this point, I'm very glad to know that you've gone through with some troubleshooting including a master reset but I've got an idea for something else we can try that should help.
Have you tried putting your phone into safe mode http://vz.to/ruJiUa ? This will allow us to isolate the issue to either the device itself or potentially an application. Please try this tactic and let us know how it responds. If all goes well while in safe mode, there may be an app that we'll want to get rid of.

  • My phone keeps turning on and off..

I have tried connecting it to itunes and it reconizes the phone but still continues to turn off and on every 2 or 3 seconds... anyone have this happen to them?

Have you tried restoring your device with iTunes? Before restoring, make sure to backup everything on your device.
If you do not know how to restore an iPhone, read this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
After you restore, if the problem persists, and your phone keeps turning itself off, that means that there is a problem with your iphones logic board or battery. If thats the case, take your phone to an apple store and have them take a look. Hope I helped. Cheers

  • Attempted to update iOS 6 to iphone 3GS. Install froze, turned phone off, now phone keeps turning on and off.

How the heck do I get this thing to restore?
I was updating the iOS when it froze. Did nothing for hours. So I turned the phone off. When I went to turn it on again, the apple logo showed up and then the phone kept going back and forth between a black screen and the apple logo. Is there anyway to get this thing to respond and go back to iOS 5?

iPhones don't take baths too well. You can do what the other responder suggested and put it in rice for a few days, but this usually doesn't work too well. Here in the US Apple has an out of warranty replacement policy for situations like this. You might want to check on the policy in the UK, but I'm betting it's pretty much the same. Here in the US, they'll give us a replacement phone for the subsidized price we paid when new. For example, a 16GB iP4 costs $199 and we are tied to a two year contract with AT&T. So, when a phone goes for an unplanned swim, Apple will let us purchase a replacement phone for the same price. Good luck.......
