Error -50 is a very unhelpful generic communications error with a number of possible causes. Something between the drive to which you are downloading and the drive from which it is all coming is not working correctly, which probably leaves several hundred options.

Underlined ads appearing in safari

I Know this topic has been broached a number of times, however I cannot find a solution.
I have ads appearing in Safari and Chrome but not Firefox. They are underlined text that if you hover of the text a pop up ad appears. I also have ads appearing (like google ads) on certain parts of the websites I search.
I have disabled and deleted extensions in Safari and Chrome without success
I have run anti virus software (Avast) without success
Does anyone have a solution

You installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

Right-click or control-click the line and select
          Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "VSearch" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.

I have never visited this site and yet their ads keep appearing on nearly every page I open. I have noticed that these ads will never appear on apples own site but on all others like msn facebook etc i can b 100% sure that they will appear.
I called the apple support site and spoke to some guy who never had a clue. Does any one know how to sort this?

I tried doing this, but every time I attempt to do something in the Network section of System Preferences, a pop-up message comes up saying "Your network settings have been changed by another application." And I have to press OK, but then it immediately pops up again, effectively preventing me from doing anything, including following these instructions. I also ran the tool you recommended to kill a trojan horse, but after initially telling me that it had detected a trojan horse, a new thing popped up and told me nothing had been detected. What should I do?

How to stop fullscreen in iPad safari?

In my iPad 2 ver 8.1.2 I've lost the use of the Safari Browser. A website is stuck on full page, so I can't type in a url, or go back. Nothing of Safari shows. I keep my ipad locked in Horizontal view. If I unlock it and turn it vertical, I can see the left side of Safari, but not all the way to the right. How do I disable Fullscreen? If I could go back and forth between part and full screen, it would be fine, but there is no return to Safari controls!

Thank you for your responses. It was not zoomed. I finally restarted the ipad, and that cleared it. I've since read that swiping up with two fingers might have restored Safari. I don't want to try to put it back into fullscreen, so that I can test this. I don't know how it got into fullscreen anyway.
When I poked around on the screen, I was able to bring up a screen that showed all the open web pages on a grid. I could tap one and it would come up--in fullscreen.
My preference is to see the working Safari with all its tabs and the current web page open in the lower half.

• In the Date & Time control panel, 'Use a Network Time Server' option.
• In the Software Update control panel for any automatic setting.
• In the QuickTime Settings control panel, on the Update Check page (accessed via the pulldown menu in the control panel).
• In the Startup Items folder in System Folder for any kind of registration or similar alias.
• Third-party software which may have an auto check for updates feature, such as Symantec's Live Update utility.
The most common culprit is the Date & Time control panel.

How do I get rid of popups like Mackeeper?

I just got a new Mac Book Pro (Yosemite) with retina and its been working great; however, in the past week I have been getting a ton of popups and new tabs opening while I am using the Internet. The problem is in BOTH Safari and Chrome and it is starting to get really annoying. I have adblocker in chrome and it works great with ads and such and I have the popup blocker turned on in both browsers, but they still appear. Is there a way to stop all of these popups? And I'd prefer a pretty permanent solution so that I don't have to fix it every week. Thanks in advance!

How do I open software instrument interfaces like ES1, etc?

I am completely new to Logic. I just got Logic Pro X and even after browsing the manual, I can't figure out something that should be pretty simple: how do I open the special visual interfaces for the software instruments like ES1, Sculpture, etc.? I don't see these listed in my instruments library either. I'm just really confused and would really appreciate some help. Thanks!

Turning wifi off presumes that the video ads are streaming to your iPad. Turning it off may help, however if your game is not self-contained on the iPad you may not be able to play the game either. And yes, the ads will return when the iPad has internet access while you play the game.
Your two main options are to pay for the paid version of the game which should have no ads or look for a ad blocking app. I use Weblock, which basically runs your internet through a proxy server, filtering out the ads. It's not perfect. For example some internet connections do not allow proxy servers - my work wifi bars proxy servers so I either use the app or access the internet, can't do both.
Consider why there are ads....the game was free, but developing it cost someone thousands of dollars. They wanna recoup that money, hence the advertising. If you really like a game the best way to support it is to pay for it.

How do you stop unauthorized cookies from appearing in Safari?

I'm using Safari 5.1.10 and system 10.6.8. I've gotten all the security downloads available, but I seem to having issues with unauthorized cookies appearing. These seem to appear even though I've not visited their websites, and have Safari set to accept cookies from only sites I've visited.
After going to Preferences:Privacy: remove all website data: then remove all cookies,
If I just wait a few minutes, I get 72 website cookies restored to my computer, without doing anything. These include cookies from google, alibaba, 2mdn.net, facebook, microsoft, oracle and many more. Some of these declare they are using local storage, others the catch, while others just declare themselves as cookies.
These appear in spite of the fact that I have the preferences set to block cookies from third party advertizers, set Extensions to OFF, but have Javascript enabled, and allow Java, but deny all other plug-ins.
If I unclick the allow Java button in Preferences:security, then 11 of these cookies sneek back in, but the others seem to be blocked. Those that come back include Alibaba, apple, google-analytics, "local documents on my computer", machine-seeker, wikipedia, and a few others.
If I disable JavaScript in Preferences:Security, now I get only cookies from sites I've visited, as I'm supposed to, according to the settings in my Safari preferences.
So it seems that some unscrupulous information collectors are collecting data even when the Safari settings should prohibit it. Unfortunately, some of the sites I visit ( Like Apple support communities) require that Javascript be enabled, so I don't know how to stop this.
The problem is that I've found these unwarrented cookies appear to slow down my internet connection speeds by ~ 95% ( Try removing them and disabling Javascript to see what happens) in addition to it being an invasion of my privacy. In addition, it really bothers me that some of these sites are storing local documents on my computer without permission.
As I've said, I've already installed ALL the pertinent security updates. Does anybody have any idea how to stop this from happening? I presume this is also happening on my iphone and ipad as well, but haven't checked.
I see that Safari was sued by Apple in 2012 for doing just this same thing, but they appear to be up to their old tricks, as well as many other companies.

I've investigated this phenomena of UNauthorized Cookies a bit more in the past few days and found their cause and uses goes very deep down the internet rabbit hole. While most browsers allow the user to delete cookies, or to block cookies from third parties, third parties may place cookies or "cookie equivalents" on your computer through a large variety of back doors. The most pernicious type of such cookie is euphemistically called a "Zombie Cookie" or a "supercookie".
These may reside in a number of places either in your own computer or remotely on the web. Deleting zombie cookies or supercookies is generally ineffective, because they are reinstalled in your browser, or worse, just exchange information with your browser withouth leaving a trail of cookie crumbs, the next time you get online. Some of these zombie cookies are not browser specific, so they can be accessed through all browsers on your computer.
The reason that you may never have heard of supercookies, and the reason they are so hard to find and get rid of, is that their deployment is deliberately sneaky and designed to evade detection and deletion. This means that most people who think they have cleared their computers of tracking objects have likely not. The European Union has recently taken action to make illegal the emplacement of "non-essential" cookies on your computer, but the United States, being less concerned about your personal privacy, and more concerned about making it easy for companies (and the government) to eavesdrop, has not.
