HT201250 First generation MacBook Air slow on Lion OS

My macbook air 2GB 667Mhz DDR2 1.8GHz intel core 2 duo was just upgraded to Mac OS X 10.7. It was Ok for a while but now its slow. i found out that it uses up to 1.9GB of CPU memory to process requests. do i downgrade to 10.6 or install updates? i really need help with this cos i cant really do anything without the beach ball rolling. This is my first mac xperience....

How many GB's of RAM does your Macbook Air have installed?  You can click on the upper left hand Apple Icon in the Menu Bar>select "About This Mac">and read the line about "Memory" installed:
Lion 10.7 is more Memory intensive than previous versions of OS X and really needs at least 4 GB's of RAM minimum in order to have any system speed.
Hope this helps

Trouble with slow Macbook Air. I have first generation MacBook Air and have a hard time keeping hard drive from being full. After trashing many docs, I have almost 5 gigs available, but mac is slow and I keep getting color wheel when I use Mail. I'd like to install Lion, but now I'm afraid it will slow down my machine even further. Do I have enough free hard disc space? Is Mail problem related to free hard disc space? Thanks for your help!

7gb of free disc space is required to install Lion.  Read this about how to free up disc space: http://pondini.org/OSX/DiskSpace.html.  Also, advice on how to speed up your mac: http://www.maclife.com/article/feature/25_ways_speed_your_mac

I need to upgrade my first generation Macbook Air 1,1 to Lion OS x10. I need to install other  software that requires 10.7 also a java update that requires 10.7. I am currently on Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and my macbook Air 1.1 will not go up to Mountain Lion. The Lion software update 10.7 is no longer available from the store or downloads.
    Where do I get this?
It was only released a couple of months ago.
I really feel disinfranchised already by not being able to upgrade and keep up with other software needs but to not allow me to update to my full capacity is really ridiculous.

  • Mavericks on first generation macbook air ?

I hope that OSX Mavericks will work on my first generation Macbook Air.
At the moment I am stuck with an unsatisfying OSX Lion on a great machine. Or left with the choice to go back to 10.6.8. again. Any hope for me ?

As far as I know Mountain Lion does not run on the first generation Macbook Air.

Also, I had to install the software twice on my same computer before because I had to reboot the computer. I don't know if this affects the limit.

You are allowed to have two activated installations so there should not be a problem having working installations on the two machines.  If by chance you have somehow tied up two activations for the one machine you can have Adobe support help resolve that thru chat.

What is a error message and what do you see when it appears?
Haven't much problem with Airs around here, since they have a SSD they tend to be more reliable.
Perhaps it was a bad update, have you ran through this list of possible fixes?
Do as many as possible, starting with #1. Until the problem is resolved.
Use the boot 10.6 USB instead of the disk of course.

  • Should I update my 2nd generation MacBook Air to OS X Yosemite?

I have a 2nd Generation MacBook Air... Should I upgrade to Yosemite? I tried the beta and it was really slow but works perfectly on Mavericks.

A password reset would certainly be a good idea. However, it could be an iCloud issue. If you Mac matches your user password to your Apple password, it could be that when you initially start up, you don't have an internet connection...
Logging in as guest gets you connected, thus being able to authenticate. So when you change it, either make sure it's stored locally, or run some diagnostics on wifi connection upon startup. Out of interest, are you connected at the login screen (top right next to the time will tell you)?

  • Late 2010 macbook air slow to wake from sleep

Hi, my late 2010 macbook air running mountain lion is slow to wake from sleep, so when i lift the lide the screen is unreactive and it take approx a minute before I am able to enter my password, I am just wondering if anyone else had had this problem and has any solutions because its annoying, I have also noticed that when my macbook is on charge this doesn't happen!
    Thanks!!

    Hi shaners2491!
I would suggest that you attempt to reset a part of your computer's software called the System Management Controller. Information on doing this can be found here:

I have a MacBook Air 2011, running Lion 10.7.2, and Safari won't load any pages. Firefox loads everything just fine. What's going on?

d Pacifist to reinstall both the Safari
    application and the WebKit framework
was that before the 10.4.6 combo was applied?
Nope, I tried the Pacifist route after applying the combo update.
It does sound as if webkit is busted at the moment.
What version of osx is on your install disks?
Not sure, I'll have to check them.
I'd like to avoid a archive & install, but I'm beginning to think it's my only remaining option.

  • HT3775 My Macbook Air (still with Lion) will not play .avi video files

My Macbook Air (still with Lion) will not play .avi video files (brought over from an older PC where they play with another viewer). This site implies Quicktime Player should be able to do so. Is there a codec or something else I'm supposed to download?

I had found this through other threads, but it is what worked, even allowed my AVI files to be played in PowerPoint. Changing to 32-bit encryption did not work, BTW.

  • Need help installing CS5 on my Macbook Air i5 with Lion OS?

I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I am trying to install CS5 on my new i5 macbook air which runs lion. When I connect my external hard drive to install the disc the disc does not even show up on the desktop. I know the drive is fine because I tested it with another disk and the icon show up fine for installation. Not sure what is going on but, guessing it is a conflict with lion. Please help?
    thanks

I think you would have better luck with an external DVD player/recorder. Have you tried dragging the file from the external hard drive to your desktop and then installing?
