HT201250 how many backups?

How many backups does time machine have?
I guess I am asking how far back can you go.
Also can this be adjusted?

It will go back as far as you have disk space to hold the backups.

  • How many backups are saved in iCloud?

Hi, how many backups has my icloud account?.
i want to recover an important note

You won't know what, if any, older backups are available until you erase the phone and go through the process of restoring the backup.  Then you'll presented with a list of available backups like the one below.  You can always back up your phone to your computer using iTunes before doing this by connecting it to your computer, launching iTunes, then going to File>Devices>Back Up (and agree to back up apps and transfer purchases if prompted).  That will allow you to get back to where you are now if the backup you want isn't there.

  • How many backups at once to time machine 1 TB TC

Can anyone advise how many concurrent users can back up to time machine at once? we have an office environment with 20 or so macs, the TC is limiting the time machine backups to 3 or 4 macs at a time. Is there a setting that changes the number of users that can connect at one time?

s it a software licensing issue do you think, or is there a setup in TC that limits the number of backups at the same time?
No, my point was, that the time required to service 20 client machines from one host (the TC) is limited physically. Therefore TM is rationing (spreading) its attention as evenly as time allows factored by the demand of 20 client machines on the one host, which indeed could be limiting things. And that would be even after the initial backups. I am just counting the 3 - 5 min. incrementals which occur every hour.
Colloquially you are 'melting' the server (the TC), and so I would think you need either a dedicated backup server or several more TC's.
20 odd machines. 60 exact minutes. One time capsule. See it now?

  • How many backups do you need to have it wrong?

Everythime you put the plug into your computer the ipad is synconising, updating and backing up, loads and loads of precious time there spent in (you think) your own interest: you never know something can go wrong.
However when you really need that backup there you go it is a failed one.
Everything started when I found that the new ios5 was now available, I have an Ipad 1.
Ok, I backup and synchronise, etc.etc. The day comes I am ready to update the ios5. I begin with a nice "backup failes error -50000". ok can happen,
I again rebackup, all seems well and then "backup failed error -50000". By the way itunes had already eaten 42 gigs out of my hardrive.
Lets try from a different computer then, I have up to five.
Again, backup, synchronise, loads of time spent, where nearly there 99%. No Apps working, the wifi is off. And again "backup failed -50000".
Ok I have a previous back up which went well, I can always use that, I (wrongly)  think.
Ok go frward IOS5. Of course it wants to backup again, I say yes, why not, I've spent already four hours like this. It fails and goes on putting the IOS5.
What a surprise when I find that the blooming think doesn't work at all, I actually attach it to restore the old backup and it replies "failed backup": excuse me? what?
I push the restore button and I find myself with the IPAD asking to attach it to the itunes while the itunes is sinchronising to whom I do not know, because te ipad is not respondng!
Then I find the bar (the one that tell you the ipads capacity, which oscilates between colours.
I was very happy till now, but I can't believe that after a year of backups and total confidence in the machine, I have been wiped out of my own memory, everything..........
So what do I do now? do I tell th F....Device it is new? do I restore form the icloud I do not have or do I believe n the third choice which does not work as the other two: restore from Itunes backup. Restore what? Recover what?
Very PO sorry dissapointed, this IOS5 is a FFraud.

You could try calling Apple and ask for Customer Relations.

    How to Complain
You call customer service to complain about a product, and you hang up angrier than when you started. His secrets to getting good service:

    Plead your case
Many companies have information such as how much money you’ve spent with them and how often you complain. If you’re a good customer, they may be more willing to help.

  • HT201250 How to backup the Time Capsule to an external drive using Time Machine?

Most of my data is on my Time Capsule since the hard drive on my iMac is too small for my music/movies/pictures and also so multiple devices can wirelessly access the data. I want to back up the files from my iMac and the Time Capsule on an external hard drive using the Time Machine. However, it seems that the Time Machine ignores the Time Capsule as a data source. How can I get this to work?

No, I don't believe this solves your problem.
TIme Machine can be used with a Time Capsule as a backup solution from connected macs and their drives but not from network drives, NAS or Time Capsules.
Thus, if you store files for LAN access on a TC internal drive, and want to back them to the USB/external drive attached to that TC, you cannot use Time Machine to do so.
Time Machine has not way of backing up ANY Time Capsule or NAS or WInPC or other networked drive, as far as I can tell. You will have to use some other backup software.
This is exactly what I bought the TC for myself (tried to use the internal drive on the TC as a NAS for my LAN, storing my music and photos and documents and bought a LaCie 2TB USB3 extneral drive to connect to the TC and hoped to be able to use Time Machine to backup the internal drive to the LaCie drive....but this does not work, as TM cannot backup from a network drive or TC device.

  • How many backups does the icloud keep?

When I look at the backup section, I only get one date - the most recent.  Would there be any older backups available?

Nope, it just makes incremental updates to the first one, so there is only ever one.  Since everyone only gets 5GB free storage (and that space includes email and documents & data) I think this was the done to make the most of the available free space.
If you want, you can still make a backup in iTunes separate from your iCloud one.

  • How many iPhone backups does iTunes keep?

I've found where you find the iTunes iPhone backup files (~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup). But I would like a list of how many backups I have. Those files are very cryptic and the dates are all over the place. I want to see if I have a week's worth, or month, etc...
    Thanks.

You can check in iTunes: Edit/Preferences/Devices, you should see a panel with a list of dated backups. For me there is only one. I haven't figured out yet if it's possible to make it do more than one.
The page sited in prior post says "Since iTunes only keeps one backup per device..." so maybe it's always one. Apple suggest that the directory where iTunes backups are kept should be backed up elsewhere (Timemachine, etc) to give access to multiple backups. Not so convenient.
This page (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414) implies there are multiple backups by showing a dropdown list where you can pick one. It's a bit misleading.
The dilemma I would like to solve is that, through some blunders on my part, I lost some app data that I would like to recover. I was upgrading OS on the iPhone, and in that process two backups were taken automatically. The second one did not have the data I want back. I was hoping there were several backups and that I could restore the data from one of them. Seems it's not so.

  • Find how many archive logs are generated and backup through RMAN

    friends,
how many arhcive logs are generating between 2 consecutive backups through RMAN.
    Ur help is really appricated.
    Thanks

    Sorry, I misunderstood the question
I think you are not asking how many logs are generated since last backup. My initial repy was the answer for this
The answer of you question on 10G R2 is like below. Query groups your archivelog backup sessions and counts the logs in one session which is the number of generated archivelog file between two backup session/.
select session_key,count(sequence#) from V$BACKUP_ARCHIVELOG_DETAILS group by session_key order by 1 desc

  • How many macs can backup to a 3tb time capsule?

If I get a 3tb time capsule is there any limit (apart from the drive size) on how many macs can backup to it. At the moment no more than about 20gb of data per mac. Also has the reliability of the time capsule improved with the new version - I would like it to last longer than 18 months.
    Thanks
    Ben

Let's assume that you backup each Mac separately on the first backup since that will copy the entire contents of the Mac's drive over to the Time Capsule disk. That might average 2-3 hours per Mac.
Once you have the "master" backup of each Mac completed, you can set each of them up for incremental Time Machine backups. On average, the hourly incremental backups only take  a few minutes to complete. To be conservative, call it 5 minutes.
So if it takes each Mac about 5 minutes for an average incremental backup, the realistic limit of Macs backing up to a single Time Capsule would be in the 10-12 range.  I've had 5 Macs backing up for 3 years with no issues whatsoever.
It would be a good idea to purchase AppleCare for one of your newer Macs if possible. That way, your Time Capsule is covered up to 3 years.
Keep in mind that we tend to only hear about issues on the forums. In that respect, this place is like a hospital...just about everyone here has a problem. No one ever seems to post to report that everything is OK.
You don't hear about the millions of devices that are working just fine, so it's tough to make a judgement on a product based on what you see and read here.

I have a lion server set up to host storage for time machine backups. Is there a limit to how many different computers can back up to the single server to back up. I am only backing up the users folders . The backup drive is an external Drobo with 6 TB. Right now it seems to back up my users all day long. I set their time machine interval to every 5 hours but it still runs all day long and is very slow. Server is on a new Mac Server mini.

AFAIK, there is no user limit.. it is simply a question of the network load. AFP is a fairly clean protocol.. but TM is not.. it does a lot of testing of the backup.. infact your setting of 5hour gap could well make it worse.
I would sort out the clients that are doing 100GB backups to a different backup location.. no matter how fast your network.. 100GB takes time to backup.. and over wireless forever.. it will never end.
I guess some of these clients are on wireless?? I would separate the TM of wireless to those that are wired. No more than 4 or 5 wireless clients to a target device. Otherwise you are saturating your network with backup data. And use 5ghz.. so close by.. it is much faster than 2.4ghz and you will get much better transfer rates.
