HT201250 osstatus error 2

ok I have a externail hard drive Seagate home. I would to back up to it by wifi. In time machine when I seclect the hard drive (seagate ) and I put my name and password it connecting then an error comes up and say osstatus error 2 . Now where do i get this code from I be very where on you site. So can you help me. Am I stuffing uo something that I have done. Thank you Francis

This is a user to user forum.  Thus you  have no direct contact to Apple here. Seagate may have its own error code.  That said, some Apple Airport Extreme base stations allow you to attach external hard drives to share wirelessly:
http://www.apple.com/airportextreme/features/harddrivesharing.html Only Apple's Time Capsule is definitely compatible with direct wireless hard drive backup unless stated by the manufacturer that it is known to be compatible with Apple's wireless.

    Hello,
Have you looked through Pondini's extensive TM help site?
    http://Pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
I can't imagine anything TMwise not covered.
But is this a NAS vor Network drive?

I think illegal characters in the Drive's name can do it also.

  • Time Capsule / Leopard 10.5.8 / Time Machine / Disk can't be opened because the original item can't be found / OSStatus error -6602

    Hi,
I'm facing a big issue with Time Machine on my Mac Book running Leopard 10.5.8 (build 9L31a) and my Time Capsule (firmware 7.6.1 (76100.4)).
I have searched a lot (during 3 days !!) to find a solution but no luck !
I have the same syntoms as described by LUNY in this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/9364556#9364556
    To quickly summarize:
My MacBook was configured to use my Time Capsule as backup disk. Everything went fine during 2 years and then one day I suddently got problems with time machine !
Time Machine was unable to access my Time Capsule. Moreover it was drastically slowing down my MacBook !
    So:
    1. I stopped Time Machine and tried to change the backup disk: every time I chose my Time Capsule Disk, I got a OSStatus error -6602
    2. Then, I tried to access my Time Capsule from the Finder -> slow and then got this message 'Disk can't be opened because the original item can't be found'
    3. I searched in the logs for the specific reason and I found:
       - system.log (/var/log) :
          myMacBook kernel[0]: disk0s2: I/O error.
myMacBook /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/MacOS/Finder[198]: NetworkNode::handleMountCallBack returned -6602 (the same error)
myMacBook ReportCrash[358]: Saved crashreport to /Library/Logs/CrashReporter/kextload_2012-12-30-112946_myMacBook.crash using uid: 0 gid: 0, euid: 0 egid: 0
       - In CrashReporter (/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/): i see the problem coming from kextload with this exception:
           Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)
           Exception Codes: 0x000000000000000a, 0x000000000122d000
    4. I tried to mount the time capsule disk with Terminal (AFP protocol):
       > mount -t afp afp://admin:[email protected]/Data /Volumes/termAFPData/
result -> mount_afp: AFPMountURL returned error 19, errno is 19
These errors (6602 and 19) are neither documented anywhere nor associated to a clear description of the problem. The only thing I have found is that errno 19 is an IO error -> http://www.opensource.apple.com/source/CarbonHeaders/CarbonHeaders-18.1/MacError s.h
On the other hand, and this is the really weird part of the issue, my time capsule disk works well when I mount it with SMB protocol !!! (Or when I access it with a Windows XP machine).
So, the workaround is: mount -t smbfs //admin:[email protected]/Data /Volumes/termSMBData/
Or, in Finder -> Connect to server and there use the URL: smb://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/Data
Not sure what is going on ... but I pretty sure that's a bug and not a hardware problem.
Is there someone who has already found a solution for this kind of behaviour ?
It would avoid me a lot of headaches and improve the support for this kind of problem.
    Thanks !!!

Thanks a lot for this really quick reply.
When you say: "I would though go back to 7.5.2 firmware." Do you mean a reset to factory default ?
    Greetz
NO, your time capsule is running 7.6.1 but it is built with AFP following increased security for LION.. that is not required or available in Leopard.. so there is no point.. it is also not as stable on the older hardware.. at least in my experience.. I have repaired about 200 of the suckers so I do see a few.
When you select firmware update in the airport utility.. hold the option key.. all valid firmware versions for your TC then show up.. not only upgrades.. select 7.5.2 and upgrade to that.
Do a factory reset when you do it is a good idea though.. start off again.
And do reset of TM.. A4 in pondini.
    See if it helps.
Oh, the TC will continually complain about needing a firmware update.. turn off automatic checking of updates.. it will still annoy you for fun every few weeks but that is better than daily.

  • How can I resolve OSStatus Error 13 on Time Machine when connecting to Time Capsule on Lion?

This is a semi-rhetorical question: I have now resolved this for my own setup, However, there was very little information on this error in the fora, so I thought I would post my experience with getting a Time Capsule (2TB, 3rd edition) to work on OS X Lion after the AFP/NAS debacle.
    Background
My third party LaCie Big Disk Network* NAS died when Lion came out.
I could access neither Time Machine nor the drive through Finder.
The excellent thread on "Lion: Connecting to legacy (pre-Lion) AFP services - and Mac OS X (server)" (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3258472?start=0&tstart=0) allowed me to access the drive via Finder to save my files but, of course, Time Machine was still broken. That guide showed you how to lift security restrictions on AFP shares.
For reasons explained below [disclaimer: rant follows] I decided to ditch the LaCie and purchased a Time Capsule.
    The Problem
Time Capsule connected via DSL to the net and set up a wifi network with a green light.
The "Data" mount for Time Machine was visible in Time Machine, but trying to access it showed the following error:
The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error 13)
Trying to open the share in Finder using the appropriate credentials showed:
The operation cannot be completed because the original item for "Data" can't be found
    Things that didn't work
Turning lots of things on and off
Resetting the DSL modem, the router (Time Capsule), the computer
    Repairing permissions
    What DID work
Undoing the modifications made during the process of mounting the old LaCie NAS
To do this, open Terminal and enter:
    sudo -s
    chmod o+w /Library/Preferences
    cd  /Library/Preferences/
    rm com.apple.AppleShareClient.plist*
    (from https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3258472?start=0&tstart=0)
    Then restart your computer.
This worked for me. I don't UNDERSTAND any of why this did or didn't affect the computer, so please don't ask me to explain how it worked or what else to try. I thought I would just put this out there for knowledge.
    * LaCie have really got my goat. Unlike other manufacturers who seem to be trying to provide support for their drives (Western Digital MyBook), LaCie have stated outright that they will not be providing any updates for their Big Disk Network. This is a hard drive they describe as a "Professional NAS", though I can't think of many professions where £200 backups need to be replaced every two years to keep abreast of security updates. In their defence, the drive is no longer manufactured… but, IMHO, I don't see that as sufficient reason to abandon all support or updates immediately. Boo! On the upside, loving my shiny new refurb Time Capsule.

Our true genius died a little while ago.
But up to Mountain Lion he has tones of info ..
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
Try some of the section C solutions.
It is more than likely network.
    BUT do the following.
    1. Install the widget A1
    2. Reset TM, A4
    3. Verify the backup, A5
    4. Reboot the whole network and restart it in order.. modem.. TC.. MB Air.
    No luck to this point.
Tell us exactly what OS you have.
The worst possible is Mavericks. If you are trying to connect to old backups after an upgrade it is hopeless.
    I recommend you start over.
Simply wipe the TC and start afresh.
Manually mount the TC disk in Mavericks so you are sure it is working. Tell us if you run into trouble.
Most important.. in wireless network preferences are you running ipv6 in link-local mode.

  • The operation could not be completed. (osstatus error 2.)

I have 3 bufallo network storage devised.  One of which I want to use for time machine back ups.  Unfortunately when I select the drive to use as the back up I get the error 'Time Machine can't access the back up disk "time machine".  The operation couldnt be completed.  (OSStatus error 2.)"
I use the administrator name and password but still get the error.
    Any ideas?

it is rare on these forums to not get a response quickly. If no one can help with the direct question, what alternatives do I have for help?
I'm guessing I could always call apple for help, but anyone know how much that would cost?

  • Error message:  The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error -43.)

I've been using TeleChart 2000 for a couple of weeks with no problem.  Then over the weekend it disappeared from my dock and wouldn't stay in the dock even though I selected "keep in dock."  At least I could still open it by going to the "downloads" folder.  Now today, when I tried to open it after using it earlier in the day, I got this message:  The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -43.)
Anyone know how to fix this?

I took a quick look at http://www.welovemacs.com/whdoalltherc.html which list many error codes, Error 43 appears to be a file not found error.

  • Backup Error - Operation could not be completed. (OSStatus error -54.)

    Hi all,
I use the provided Backup software on my macbook (OS X 10.5.5).
I schedule some documents and email to backup each day. I use Microsoft Entourage for email.
This has all worked fine until the past couple of days (which I think is when I installed a Microsoft Office update).
When looking at the log, the error is:
Unable to copy /Users/xxxxxx/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2008 Identities/Main Identity/Database: Operation could not be completed. (OSStatus error -54.).
I'm guessing this could be some kind of permissions problem - can anyone advise how to resolve it?
The database file is 350mb if that makes any difference.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Hal

I've had exactly the same message, (but with OSStatrus error -36) which is cutting short a backup (using Backup) of my home folder from my iBook G4 to the HD of my intel iMac both running Leopard.
It has happened three times after about an hour or so and I've never been able to complete a backup, which I desperately need to do before I run a complete erase and reinstall of my iBook.
Does anyone have suggestions of what's going wrong here?

  • QuickTime Error: Operation could not be completed. (OSStatus error -2125.)

    Hello there,
I have recovered data from a bad disk and would like to save it as a movie with QuickTime. But it is always giving me this error message at the end, almost before it finishes saving the file:
The movie "Caribou_migration4" could not be saved.
Operation could not be completed. (OSStatus error -2125.)
Does anyone know why is this happening and what can I do. If I don't resave this video, I am not able to use it / or import it to Final Cut Pro!! Help!
    Thank you

    Hello,
Err -2125 means "File offset too big".
Something is wrong in the movie file, for sure.
It's not a surprise given that you've recovered it from a bad disk.
Your file can probably be repair by my "Movie Repair Service".

  • In iphoto i get this error for a video that I wanted to play - The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error -54.) what is that error and how to fix it?

The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -54.)
My Apple course instructor felt it would be smart to create all in iphoto dragging in all videos and photos to one spot.
I now get these errors and they wont play.
What is the error telling me and how do I fix it and get the video to play please??
Is it true iphoto will be replaced in this New Year and if so does anyo

    No it didn't at all.
I went to the finder and saw several of the same .
When I called Apple they told me not to delete anything using the Finder… odd I thought, as that was the only way I could see the multiple videos and photos.
Do you think there is any harm in deleting from there directly if I have a good playable copy?
    Thank you both for responses.
The clips/videos some are from iPhone 4.
I opened it manually and found 4 copies of most of the same videos, same names, some with slight variations. Don't know why.
Some are titled from iphoto /Masters    don't know why that happened
Now I also have some clips with white dotted line on grey where the clip used to be? why would that occur??
In my finder there are now 97000 images. Yet I only have 22,000 in iphoto. Where are the rest located and why so many duplicates?
Have I checked a box somewhere and need to address that?
Thank you for any insight and guidance.

  • What is OSstatus error -9549 and how to solve it?

When I was using my iPhoto '09 (Version 8.1.2 (424)) to export a slideshow, I got the following error:
    The operation couldn't be completed.
    OSstatus error -9549
I've never seen this error before previously when performing similar operation. What does it mean and any solution?
    Thanks!

I have the same 9549 error condition trying to export a Display resolutions slideshow. I can reliably repeat this error. My slideshow export hasw125 still images ~4mb each and two songs ~ 6 minutes. the error is thrown near the end of the export.
    Running iPhoto '09 version 8.1.2 (424)
    OS X 10.8.5
Macbook Pro 2.2.Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM.
Would appreciate a solution or workaround. FYI I'm using iPhoto to produce this slidshow because iMovie creates objectionally jumpy transitions when using Ken Burns effects. Pretty frustrating using these Apple products to try to make a slideshow with music. If anyone has a 3rd party software app that can do the job please share that too. I'm spending too much time troubleshooting faulty Apple apps.
    Thanks.

  • IPhoto won't export my slideshow? I get the message (OSStatus error - 108)

I try to export my slideshow created from a photobook on 80 pages in iPhoto. I think I have tried everything and different formats. I get the message (OSStatus error - 108) no matter what I try. It's a photobook made for my sons 18 years birthday and my plan was to show it to the party this friday.
    So it's a little confusing!
    What to do?
    Regards Helle

Some folks have fixed exporting issues by reinstalling the app.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • OSStatus error -50

I just had to rebuild my hard drive after it blew up recently. Fortunately, I had used Time Machine and had files, apps, etc. all backed up. In restoring all my files, there appears to be an issue with iPhoto and movies.
When I try to open movies, I get the message: The movie could not be opened. The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -50.). This message doesn't seem to be anywhere on the web other than on my computer. Has anyone experienced this problem and maybe has some insight on how to fix?
Also, while I can see all restored iPhoto thumbnails, when I click to enlarge the picture, I have nothing but the black background. Any thoughts here?

It's likely the Perian software. I have a similar QT conversion 3rd party (WMV Player), and just upgraded to Leopard, and started getting the same "OSStatus Error" message when trying to open non-QT files.
Just right click and "open with" something different - QT, Windows Media Player, etc., and it should work fine (it did for me).

  • Movie clips won't play -  OSStatus error -54

I am organizing all of my movie clips, some of which date back a few years.  Since the last time I did this, something has happened and they will not play.  I get the following error message: OSStatus error -54  Does anyone know of a solution?

You have the names of these files in iPhoto, right?
    Download Find Any File
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
It's a search app that looks in places where Spotlight simply doesn't look. See if it can find them.
Cause? Updating the system won't do this, but there are a million ways things can go wrong. I wouldn't worry about Apple cutting iPhoto. The current version will run on 10.10 for the foreseeable future - that's at least another year. Even when the next OS comes out, it may run on that too. If it doesn't, well releasing the new Photos.app and upgrading the OS will not turn iPhoto off or stop it working.
