HT201257 2011 iMac FCPX performance issues

I have an issue that has been really causing a lot of problems with FCPX and my mid-2011 iMac. First, the specs.
Yosemite 10.10.3
Processor: 2.7 GHz intel Core i5
Memory: 16GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB
FCPX 10.1.4
I have been having some sluggish behavior out of this iMac that seems to be a real issue when running FCPX. It's not all the time but when it hits, it's bad. Sometimes, I can be editing video and have little issue. Then other times, it really gets bad. When it happens, it is accompanied by some odd visual patters on all 3 of my monitors (see picture).
I have tried all sorts of performance enhancing measures over the past few months. I can't figure out what the problem is and it is steadily getting worse. Over the past few days, I have actually had complete system lock ups where I couldn't so anything but power the entire thing down and restart it. I would really appreciate any help.
FCPX is a strain on any processor/RAM/hard drive space. So, how much empty space do you have on your hard drive? I've been told that one needs - as a minimum - as much empty space as there are temp files in the project one is working on in order for it to be able to render without problems. I only use the older version of FCE and iMovie, but I can easily amass more than 100 GB of temp files while on a one hour HD project, so I keep an extraordinary amount of empty space on my hard drive.
Do you have any AV or so called "cleaning" utilities installed?
And what are the "performance enhancing" measures you've tried?

My Mom's 2011 iMac is having issues loading web pages.
This past week my mother's iMac (2011) began having issues with the internet. She told me that whenever she ties to search for something on the internet, the reload bar in Safari constantly spins and takes forever to load (around 40 seconds).
We are using an Air Port Extreme router (2011 model), and my mom's iMac still has Snow Leopard (Mac OS X [10.6.8]) installed. The other computers in our house (a 2009 HP Touchsmart, a 2011 MacBook Pro, and a 2013 MacBook Pro) have no issue whatsoever. I recently had to restart the AirPort device in June due to issues, but it was fine for the last month up until Sunday, July 20th, 2014. The iMac is connected to the AirPort Wi-Fi network, but it's incredibly slow.
Is this problem happening because she hasn't updated her computer to OS X Mavericks?Try rebooting the modem and router and her iMac. If that doesn't help create a new network location Using network locations (Mac OS X v10.6 and later)

I have a 2011 27" iMac running 10.8.4. Earlier this evening the screen started to flicker across the middle. Then it went all gray. I restarted and it seemed fine for a few minutes and then it flickered again and went black. Restarted again and this time it went to the split screen you see in the picture. I've reset the PRAM and it didn't help anything. Every time I restart it, it works for awhile and then the screen does these weird things. I tried the Apple Hardware Test and it said everything was fine. I have no idea what to do next.
Any help would be appreciated.

The GPU isn't working correctly. Apple Hardware Test doesn't detect GPU problems, so that's the reason why it didn't give you any error.
Take the iMac to an Apple Store or reseller to get it repaired. The GPU isn't soldered onto the logic board, so the repair will be less expensive. You don't need a backup, but you can do one if you want -
FCPX Performance Issues on Mac Pro
I've been having some trouble running FCPX on my Mac Pro.
Specs:
MacPro1,1
Quad-Core 2.66Ghz
10 Gb Memory
ATI Radeon HD 5770 & Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT
120 Gb 6Gb/s SSD for Lion & FCPX w/ a few other HDD's for media storage
I know I have an older Mac Pro but still I'd think that with an SSD, a new graphics card, and a quad core FCPX would be able to run sufficiently. The whole program just runs slow in general. Anyone have some tips on how to make it run faster? I really don't want to take FCPX out of my work-flow but if I have to I'll just have to resort to Adobe Premiere.I'd look at what HDDs you use. I might also remove the 7300 card. I don't know what interaction it may be having but I'd look to simplify the hardware to see what might be going on. I have a MP 1.1 with the 5770 card and FCPX works just fine (although now that I have used it a bit I know I don't really like it). I don't know what the SSD does since I don't have that but if you're internal drives are fast 7200 rpm drives then I'd check the vid card interaction.

Early 2011 MBP 13" Performance issues??
I recently install a new samsung 840 Evo 240gb SSD and upgraded RAM to 8gb... the performance is fantastic but its lacking in the battery department. Is the battery getting beat up by the SSD or is there an underlying problem i missed?
1. Check the cycle count of the battery against the rated life for your model. The battery may be due for replacement. If the power adapter is connected almost all the time, the battery may need replacing even though the cycle count is not too high.
2. Follow these instructions, or these for OS X 10.8 or earlier.
3. In the Energy Saver preference pane, uncheck the box marked
Enable Power Nap while on battery power
if it's shown (it may not be.)
4. You can also try resetting the SMC.
5. Make sure your system is up to date in Software Update.
6. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center. -
Performance issues with Imac intel 2011 27 inch..
I have an 2011 imac 3,4 GHz Intel Core i7 with 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM.
Since a few months i noticed performance issues with FCPX, where before it would run through video it shows sometimes the color ball. Now the computer is slow in starting up and shutting down also. Ran disk utility but to no avail. I am now considering reinstalling mavericks.
But I ran etrecheck.

Performance issue with brand new intel iMac extreme
I am at a loss to explain a problem I've been having and I thought I might put it out to you guys.
In September I purchased a macbook Pro (2.4 ghz, 4 GB RAM) to use in video editing with Final Cut Pro, and for the most part I've been thrilled. I use 1TB LaCie external drives connected via FW800, and perform Multiclip editing with 4-5 video streams at a time and only on occasion have dropped frames during the editing process.
In December I determined that I needed to have an additional system, and thought a 2.8Ghz Intel iMac extreme would be an excellent choice, since for the same price I could get a little more power in the processor, more hard drive space and a bigger screen to work on. When we picked up the new system in the store (The Grove Apple Store in LA), we had them upgrade the memory to 4GB.
Since day one we have had performance issues, including problems playing streaming and DVD video, severe delays mounting and unmounting drives (firewire and USB) and application images, and freezing while doing even simple tasks like printing or checking email. These problems occur even while there are no external drives are connected. I have none of these issues with the Macbook Pro, which has virtually an identical set of programs installed, and both running the same version of Leopard.
I already took the original iMac back to the store, and they exchanged it, but did not have 4GB sets of RAM in stock so they took the RAM from the original machine and put it in the new one. They said if I continued to have problems then it was most likely the RAM and I should come back when they got more in stock. I DID have the same problems with the new machine, and took it back to the Apple Store and they swapped the memory. It seemed to improve the issue, but now I'm seeing the same severe performance issues again.
All tech support can do is tell me to do a PRAM reset, which seems to improve things very temporarily (but that may be my imagination) or have me restart, which at least has the ability to make the printing of documents capable.
What I'm wondering is if it is likely that the RAM is the issue and I just got another bad batch, or if the iMac has some weird glitch that isn't present in the macbook Pro...?? Or could I have possibly gotten 2 bad systems in a row? It's extremely frustrating, and I KNOW it shouldn't be this way! It's so bad I get better performance out of my single-core G5 tower! How do I get a good working system that operates like it should? Am I better off getting another Macbook Pro? I'd rather not for several reasons...
I have xbench on both the MBP and the iMac and can provide test numbers if they'll help, as well as any other info.

I got the same problem with my MacBook when it still was new in may 2006. It was supposed to be one of the faster Laptops around but it was soooo slow it drove me nuts. I can only advise to have a look if there is something hugging up your RAM and run some tests using these programs on your machine:

If they show any unusual results you might have your problem...
As to my problem with the MacBook: I did a complete re-install (writing the harddisk over with zeroes) and suddenly everything was just fine. (But be sure to back all your files before that, I learned this one the hard way.) I know it is just a standard answer, but it worked out for me this time...

2011 iMac 27" 6970M 2GB graphics/display issues
Hi,
A few days ago, I woke my 27” 2011 iMac from sleep and it was just a white screen with 5 thick red vertical lines, the lines went away after almost a minute and then it was just a blank white screen. I did the following:
Restarted it
Reset PVRAM – Option + Command + P + R
Reset SMC – Shutdown, unplug power cable, wait 30 seconds, plug back in, wait 5 seconds and turn back on
Enter recovery mode
Run disk utility
Run safe mode – text appeared on startup, though lines over screen etc – nothing changed
Held option key and chose the startup disk – this failed before though did work a few times, but I don’t believe it worked because I did it this way.
Ran Apple hardware test in extended mode. Found no issues. I’ve read to run it multiple times before assuming everything is fine.
It seemed to work fine the next day though I’m worried this could happen again as a few times it was perfectly fine and then the desktop would just go all over the screen. After searching online I noticed there was a replacement program for the AMD 6970M in 2011 iMacs. I believe this could be over though at the time of writing?
About 6 months after getting my iMac I installed a 120GB OWC SSD myself and everything has been fine until this issue. I recall a few times over the life of the iMac, it has few times not even powered on when pressing the button. I would remove power cord, wait, plug back in and that would fix it. This has only happened say 3-4 times over 4 years.
If the GPU is faulty, what are my options? I’d like to think just because I was not aware of the replacement program, wouldn’t mean I simply miss out?
Has anyone else heard of these symptoms I’ve mentioned above.

The GPU isn't working correctly. Apple Hardware Test doesn't detect GPU problems, so that's the reason why it didn't give you any error.
Take the iMac to an Apple Store or reseller to get it repaired. The GPU isn't soldered onto the logic board, so the repair will be less expensive. You don't need a backup, but you can do one if you want -

It is almost impossible to diagnose sounds over the internet, however here is a link to some failing HD sounds. If one of yours be happy, at any rate take it in for service. If you got AppleCare or it's less than a year old it's covered.

Mid 2011 iMac continuity issues!
I have recently upgraded to OS X Yosemite on my Mid 2011 iMac, but continuity doesn't seem to work on it. Is my iMac to old?
I did install Yosemite in my 27" iMac (Mid 2011) last Friday and after 6 hours of use I got display issues. After the iMac comes back from sleep I get pixelated blocks in random areas that stay on background until open a new app window. Two days ago my computer frozen and got pixelated blocks all over the screen. After restart got the graphics problem box and asked me to report it which I did. I restored Mavericks from my time machine and everything was working fine again. Then yesterday afternoon did a Yosemite clean install in my iMac and this morning got the same display issues and computer completely frozen. I restored Mavericks AGAIN and everything is working fine so far!!! I'm gonna stay with Mavericks until Apple release a fix for my issue.

2007 MacBook Pro issues after migration from 2011 iMac
I recently bought a used 2007 Macbook Pro. I was not very familiar with migration, and I realize now I should have done a bit of research before migrating from my iMac (mid 2010) running 10.8.5. I saw the message saying I should update software, but I couldn't figure out how without logging in, and getting on my network with the MacBook. Anyway, I did the migration. My first issue was the MacBook would not let me log in. I finally got it by resetting the password using a 10.6.4 install disc that came with my iMac. The issues I have now are lots of things either won't work, or I have to run them in 32 bit mode. I'm thinking it's because the newer versions residing on my iMac won't work on the older MacBook. I am unable to open iPhoto, and Desktop & Screensaver, Energy Saver in system prefs. I had to run Mail, iCal, and Contacts in 32 bit. I do not have a disc for Lion, but I just ordered it from the Apple Store. I'm wondering if I shoud just start fresh when I get the disc, or is there any fix for my ignorance? Is a new migration out of the question since the Lion is the most I can run on the MacBook while I'm running Mountain Lion on the iMac. I would really appreciate any advise!

what you’ve bought is the ability to download Lion from the Mac App Store, not a DVD. To be able to access the Mac App Store, you will need to have Mac OS X 10.6.6 or newer installed. The person who sold the MacBook Pro to you should not have included Lion with it, because any version of OS X downloaded from the Mac App Store is non-transferable; he should have included its original two grey installation DVDs, because those are transferable with the MacBook Pro.
Since you’ve now purchased Lion, you will be able to install your purchased version onto your MacBook Pro; however, to associate your MacBook Pro with your Apple ID (and thereby end the association of your MacBook Pro with its former owner), you will need to do a clean reïnstallaton of OS X onto it. To do a clean reïnstallation of OS X, you will need either the original model-specific pair of grey installation DVDs, or the white retail Snow Leopard DVD. It would be best to have both the grey DVDs and the Snow Leopard DVD, since the Snow Leopard DVD does not come with either the iLife applications or the Apple Hardware Test for your MacBook Pro, and your model’s grey DVDs will not let you get to Mac OS X 10.6.6 to have access to the Mac App Store. -
What kind of SSD in 2011 iMac - Noticeably fast?

I currently have a 2010 iMac (the 21,5" entry model), and I'm considering either replacing its HDD with a Solid-State Drive or buying the 2011 version with a SSD from factory.
From what I hear replacing the HDD on my iMac will void its warranty; and even if not, I will have difficulty selling it due to warranty questions. Also, the 120 GB of the SSD I'm considering may not be enough.
My friends who replaced their iMac's HDD with a SSD (Sandforce controller, 120 GB) say it changed the performance dramatically - boot times down to about 22 seconds, programs launching almost instantanously, faster responses overall, even shorter shutdown times.
Is this also the case for the "factory option" SSD for the 2011 iMac? What brand/model SSD does it use, or at least, what controller does it have? In short, do you think adding the factory SSD option (600 $ in the USA Store) is worthwhile, or are users better off installing a SSD (the latest/most advanced ones) they bought themselves? And do you think TRIM support in Lion will work with any of them?
According to your responses, I will consider saving up for a 2011 iMac with an SSD (though, truth be told, I'm afraid the price in Turkey will be out of my budget) or talk to local Apple service shops about replacing my current iMac's 500 GB HDD with a 120 GB Sandforce SSD I will buy myself.

I did some Googling, and it seems the 2011 iMac's have a Toshiba SSD. They're slower than a recent SSD you can install yourself, but you can run into warranty issues and installation of a drive into an iMac is difficult. Also, the SSD you can get BTO from the Apple Store supports TRIM out-of-the-box with the Snow Leopard that comes with the iMac - other SSD's can maybe support it with tweaks but I'm not sure.
I was considering adding a SSD myself but I think getting the SSD from Apple is the safer option. If I install an SSD later I may get (as an example) 500 MB/s sequential transfer speeds instead of 250-300, but in everyday use it's not easy to tell the difference - definitely not twice as fast, unless while copying a very large file to another such SSD. The "random read - I/O" is more important for an SSD anyway and both SSD's are more than good enough.
I wish Apple offered a 128 GB SSD option, though - I don't really need a 256 GB boot drive, and it would be less than half the price.

Performance Issue for BI system

We are facing performance issues for BI System. Its a preproductive system and its performance is degrading badly everyday. I was checking system came to know program buffer hit ratio is increaasing everyday due to high Swaps. So asked to change the parameter abap/buffersize which was 300Mb to 500Mb. But still no major improvement is found in the system.
There is 16GB Ram available and Server is HP-UX and with Netweaver2004s with Oracle 10.2.0.4.0 installed in it.
The Main problem is while running a report or creating a query is taking way too long time.

I encountered a serious performance bug in Adobe Air iOS application on devices running iOS 8.1 or later. Approximately in 1-2 minutes fps drops to 7 or lower without interacting with the app. This is very noticeable in the app. The app looks like frozen for about 0.5 seconds. The bug doesn't appear on every session.
Devices tested: iPad Mini iOS 8.1.1, iPhone 6 iOS 8.2. iPod Touch 4 iOS 6 is working correctly.
Air SDK versions: 15 and 17 tested.
I can track the bug using Adobe Scout. There is a noticeable spike on frame time 1.16. Framerate drops to 7.0. The App spends much time on function Runtime overhead. Sometimes the top activity is Running AS3 attached to frame or Waiting For Next Frame instead of Runtime overhead.
The bug can be reproduced on an empty application having a one bitmap on stage. Open the app and wait for two minutes and the bug should appear. If not, just close and relaunch the app.

Performance issues with Homesharing?
I have a Time Capsule as the base station for my wireless network, then 2 Airport Express setup to extend the network around the house, an iMac i7 as the main iTunes Library and couple of iPads, and a couple of Apple TVs. Everything has the latest software, but I have several performance issues with Home sharing. I've done several tests making sure nothing is taking additional bandwidth, so here are the list of issues:
1) With nothing else running, trying playing a movie via home sharing in an iPad 2 which is located on my iMac, it stops and I have to keep pressing the play button over and over again. I typically see that the iPad tries to download part of the movie first and then starts playing so that it deals with the bandwidth, but in many cases it doesn't.
2) When trying to play any iTunes content (movies, music, photos, etc) from my Apple TV I can see my computer library, but when I go in on any of the menus, it says there's no content. I have to reboot the Apple TV and then problem fixed. I's just annoying that I have to reboot.
3) When watching a Netflix movie on my iPad and with Airplay I send the sound to some speakers via Airplay through an Airport Express. At time I lose the connection to the speakers.
I've complained about Wifi's instability, but here I tried to keep everything with Apples products to avoid any compatibility issues and stay within N wireless technology, which I understood it was much more stable.

you should analyze the db after you have loaded the tables.
Do you use sequences to generate PKs? Do you have a lot of indexex and/or triggers on the tables?
If yes:
make sure your sequence caches (alter sequence s cache 10000)
Drop all unneeded indexes while loading and disable trigger if possible.
How big is your Redo Log Buffer? When loading a large amount of data it may be an option to enlarge this buffer.
Do you have more then one DBWR Process? Writing parallel can speed up things when a checkpoint is needed.
Is it possible using a direct load? Or do you already direct load?

Two pages look gray in preview mode, wont' export
