HT201257 anyone actually get this to work with a machine with Lion pre installed? (mid iMac 2011)

I tried getting this to work, but the machine just boots to the regular install.
The system came with a BT keyboard, I hope Apple didn't overlook this problem.

I just found out that the article lies about the keys to hold down.
It's actually OPTION + D, not just D as the article states.
*Come on* Apple.

  • HT200160 This solution does not seem to work when I upgraded from OS X 10.6 to OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion).  I've tried all versions of this.  Any suggestions specific to getting this to work with Mountain Lion?

Any suggestions for making this work with Mountain Lion?  I've tried all similar solutions on web.  I've been able to get this to work with Lion, and after upgrading to Mountain Lion it seems to hold true (doesn't make me implement again).  But when I went from OSX 10.6 to Mountain Lion and have to implement it on 10.8 - it isn't working. Thanks.

  • My iPod Classic is seen by Windows but not by iTunes.  I have reset it, gone to disk mode and it won't show up in iTunes.  There appears to be music on it in a file called MUSICSAVE.  How can I get this to work with iTunes again?

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
4 Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.

You have to look at the email protocol being used.  the Apple email system uses IMAP, does Tinyworld use IMAP or POP?
Does the email system permit delivery receipts to be requested?
Just some of the things one needs to determine from the information provided by the email service provider.

  • MacBook Pro with Lion pre-installed. How to get installer?

Ok, so I purchased a shiny new MacBook Pro 15" yesterday, which came with Lion pre-installed.
I am planning to downgrade to Snow Leopard. Don't ask me why, I just don't want Lion at this time.
My question is: how do I get a Lion installer, which I can put away somewhere safe until I'm ready to upgrade to Lion again? My MBP came with a Lion license, so I shouldn't have to buy it again, right?
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

No need to buy another license, all you have to do is create a Lion Recovery USB (perhaps 2 for safety)
1: USB 1+ GB formatted GUID OS X Extended Journaled in Disk Utility
2: Lion Recovery Disk Assistant > USB
    https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1433
3: Optional: Carbon Copy Cloner your present Lion OS X partition to a external GUID OS X Extended drive, it's hold the option key bootable.
(hold option to boot from USB if you need it)

  • Intuit's Quicken won't work with Lion.  Installed and am using Quicken Essentials but it's not as convenient.

Intuit's Quicken won't work with Lion.  Installed and am using Quicken Essentials but it's not as convenient.

this has been an issue with Quicken for a long time! Quicken was initially a Mac only application and then they got greedy! i beta-tested Quicken for Intuit for years and when they announced they were not going to support it any more the screaming was loud but not heard!
Quicken Essentials is a crime! i wasn't even asked to beta-test it; probably because they would have gotten an earful!!! it is not essential; it is stupid.... AND, of course, their online version was a disaster. i use Quickbooks Online for business and it works like a charm; i mean it even downloads ignominious PayPal transactions now!
i am also stupid for not really checking out if it would work with Lion - ALL of my financials are on it. I am going to have to do what @cwiens suggested above and either pull out an old Macbook I have or my well stored original Cube in its original box! thank the fates for the double backup i've always done with Quicken - Time Machine & its own key drive!
btw, this is an old Microsoft trick - not having older versions of apps work on OS updates so they force you to buy the new versions.

  • My MacBook Pro came with Lion pre-installed so I can't re-download it from the app store. Is it possible to get the installESD.dmg file and how can I get it if I can't re-download Lion in Apple Store option?

FYI Mac OS X is not designed to be installed on additional Macs, unless you purchased it from the App Store, in which case you can make as many copies as you wish and install it on as many Macs as you own.
From the Recovery Disk Assistant -
    Notes
If the computer shipped with OS X Lion or Mountain Lion, the external recovery drive may only be used with the system that created it.
If the system was upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion purchased from the App Store, the external recovery drive can be used with other similarly-upgraded systems.

  • I bought a mac mini with Lion pre-installed.  If I upgrade my mac mini to Mountain Lion, am I free to install Lion on my older macbook using the mini license?

I currently have two macs.  A 2008 macbook which is running Snow Leopard, can run Lion, and cannot run Mountain Lion.  I also have a mac mini which came with Lion pre-installed.  I plan on upgrading my mini to Mountain Lion when it's available.  After I upgrade, it seems like I should be able to install Lion on my macbook using the license that came with my mini.
I have found many articles about making a DVD or bootable USB drive to recover, or install Lion onto other macs.  So, I am not tied to the mac app store.  And I am not worried about how to install Lion onto the macbook.
I have also read a few discussions about upgrading using pre-installed Lion license.  From what I've read, if someone buys Lion through the app store, they can install it on all of their macs.  But, if they have a machine the came with Lion pre-installed they can only use Lion on one machine.  However it is unclear if that license can be transferred to another machine.
Another common answer that I have seen is, "Don't be cheap!  Just buy Lion throught the app store."  This is not about money, I'm interested in the technical challange, and the leagal question.
Does anyone have experience with this, or opinions?

If your machine came with Lion preinstalled, you cannot use it on another machine. It is tied to the machine it came with. You are allowed to make a one time transfer of the OS when you sell the machine as long as it remains with that machine.
If you purchase Lion from the app store, you are free to install it on as many Macs as you own - however, if/when you sell one of those Macs, you are required to uninstall Lion as the license is not transferable and you need to reinstall the original OS.
You can read the SLA for yourself - the link to the downloads to all licenses is here:

  • What if I purchase a new Apple computer with Lion pre-installed?

What if I purchase a new Apple computer with Lion pre-installed. Will I be able to somehow put Lion on a previously owned computer?

    Not without buying it again.

  • Will all new macbook pro come with Lion pre-installed?

I will be purchasing a new MacBook Pro in the next couple of weeks. I presume it will come with OSX Lion pre-installed. I would prefer to have only Snow Leopard installed since I won't be upgrading my other Mac Pro immediately. Will it just be necessary to re-install the Snow Leopard and start from scratch?

It depends where you buy the mac also if you get a new macbook air it will most undoubtly have LION. But I would say it's safe to assume that most macbooks that have stayed on the shelves at these apple stores have not been opened and updated. So I would think that if you purchased a new mac today unless it was a macbook air it should only have Snow leopard installed on it and they should give you a code to redeem a copy of Lion.

  • Anyone get this error message when trying to use a pre-installed workflow?

When I try to use one of several workflows under Photo in Automator I get this error message:
    * -[NSNull length]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xa00dc008
The workflows affected are those with the small feather appearing icon next to it. Don't know which application it refers to. For example: Convert to Profile, Change resolution, Assign Color Profile, Color balance.
Are these referring to some application that I don't have installed? 'Tis a puzzlement.
    OT

I think I've found the solution. The workflows that were not working were for Photoshop. Now they are. The fix must have been the 10.5.2 Combo updater as that's the only change I've made that would affect Automator. My PS CS3 installation has not been touched since before the problem started.

  • How can I get iPhoto to work with Lion? It comes up with an error about not working with this version of MAC os.omes up with an error

Iphoto was working fine until I downloaded and installed LION. Now I get  a problem message to check that iphoto is compatible with this version of MAC OS X.
    I always download software updates.

Have put iphoto into trash and tried to re-install it from cd, but although it is there on the list when I try to install, it is not in bold and does not permit me to tick it.
I have been to the app store and it tells me that iphoto is on my computer.

  • Does anyone know if this HD works with a early 2011 MBP?

Looking to upgrade my internal HD on my early 2011 MBP. Before placing the order, would like to get some professional advice.
    The HD being considered is:
    SAMSUNG Spinpoint M9T ST2000LM003 2TB 5400 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive
Thanks in advance for all advice/inputs

Oh, sorry, I didn't note that I am planning on using logic 8 to attempt this. I don't have access to a machine with logic and pro tools installed to try it myself, else I would.
