Can anyone help? I cannot activate my iphone4 after an ios7 update. I have carried out a recovery-mode restore but when the phone is switched back on I enter the UserID and Password that are verified via itunes and icloud but no joy. It tells me the used ID and password are not correct. This is is second hand phone that I have hand for a year. Apple says that I have to contact the previous owner to get their User Name and Password. This is impossible.They might have even passed away. I can believe Apple would do such a crazy software release. There must be thousands of people in my shoes.

This is the new Activation Lock feature that users have been wanting for years to prevent stolen phones from being restored and used by the thief.
If you cannot get the password to the previous user's AppleID then the phone will be useless to you.

iTunes Match is a subscription system that allows you to upload your own music (e.g. coped from CDs) to the cloud so that it shows (in the cloud) on your devices and computers without having to sync/copy it.
Automatic downloads allows to, for example, buy an app on your computer's iTunes and have it automatically download on your phone without having to connect and sync it or go to the Purchased tab in the App Store app on your download and download it yourself - but doing that, going to the Purchased tab and redownloading an app, should get it associated.
But no, I'm not aware of any problems that not having it associated causes.

Restore your device as NEW. Before you add any apps to it (other than the ones that come with iOS 6), try out the phone. If it still doesn't work, you'll need to go to Apple for phone replacement.

Standard troubleshooting...
Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
Remove all apps from Recently Used list...
- From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
- Tap and hold any icon in this list until they wiggle
- Press the red to delete apps from this list.
- Press the home button twice when done.
If still a problem restore with your backup.
If still a problem restore as new, i.e. without your backup. See how it runs with nothing synced to it.
If still a problem, it's likely a hardware issue.

And after four months, even if you did have Find My iPhone set up, whoever has the iPhone now has almost certainly turned that feature off, one way or another.
Sorry, but there's nothing anyone can do. At this point you can, I'm sorry to say, probably consider your iPhone gone forever.

Can anyone help - LR5.3 won't start after only 2 successful days!!

2 days ago installed LR5.3 trial on my new PC bought to run LR and CS6 - Win 7 Pro, Xeon E3-1230, 32gb memory, SSDs etc (the works).
Worked great for 2 days, cataloging a big trip, lots of adjustments made. Yesterday I found LR had unexplained errors and dropped/closed but I was able to restart it and my catalogs opened and allowed further actions, and all was well.
Now today the PC doesn't run LR5.3 from the desktop icons or from the .exe files which I locate via Explorer. I tried repair of LR5.3 from Adobe installer program - no improvement after the repair - and then did a full reinstall from the Adobe installer but again no recognition/operation of LR, either when I click on the desktop icon or go to the .exe files.
My other software (minimal, no conflicts there) works fine from the programs' exe files and my internet browsers are fine.
I now have brand new computer with no LR after two positive days.
Can anyone help out there?

Thank you. Went to .lrcat in WinExplorer and it opened and brought in all my previews and camera calibrations etc
Now I'll seek to remember whatever the preferences were.
2 Questions for you
1. Geoff the big catalog guy - if I decide to use one catalog I imagine it will be simple to import and merge other catalogs into the big catalog (probably 200k images to assemble into the catalog)
2. For both of you - given the weird location of the prefs, are there any other quirks I need to remember in my backup regime - I already have my lrcat and lrdata (previews) as well as images on another backup pc. anything else I should be offline backingup?

Sounds like your iPhone was previously hacked/jailbroken. If true, try using google.

There is a way! I'm very happy to share this and hope it helps those who find themselves plagued, as I was.
I have been getting nuisance calls for months from some muppet, who hides his phone number before he calls at 3am. I need to keep my phone on, in case any of my immediate family have an emergency. I'm sure many have the same problem, just turning off the phone is not an option. I have been to two or three shops to ask the experts and none could offer me a solution. I was on the verge of tring to jailbreak my phone or even get rid of it to get an andriod one...That's how bad things had become.
Anyway, this is my solution, which I found by trawling through page after page on the internet, for ages and trying various other solutions first. I have an iPhone 4S and the operating system is 6.1.3 and I am in the UK, on Orange, or EE as we should now call it. I cannot promise it will help everyone, but it works for me.
Go to Settings, Do Not Disturb and switch this on. Underneath here, go to Notifications, then Do Not Disturb again. Then Scheduled and set the times you want the restrictions to start and end. For example, I use 7pm to 8am, so that I know I won't get nuisance calls during this period, but whatever times work for you. Underneath, it says Allow calls from and you can select your favourites. If you haven't saved any of your contacts as Favourites, do so, it's very easy. Just go to contacts, open one and underneath the number there is a button to Add to favourites. Repeat for all close friends and family you want to be able to reach you at any time. All your favourites should be allowed to call. I think you can have 50 numbers in the favourites. But any unknown caller should be simply sent to voicemail.
Apple have had some previous issues with the Do Not Disturb feature and to be honest this didnt work 100% of the time for me. If you find the same, don't give up. I suggest you do as I did at this point and use an app called Call Bliss, which seems to have cracked it. (I have NO connection to them and it's no skin off my nose if you use this app or not). There may be other apps that do the same, or even better for all I know. You have a free one day trial then it's £3 if you want to continue to use it. For me, £3 to solve the problem was money very well spent. If you need this app, download it, then do as suggested above to the point where it says Allow calls from and this time you select Bliss Exceptions. Follow the instructions in the app.
There are two modes, I use suppress mode, which allows all calls to get through except those from unknown callers and those specified by you. I believe the other mode blocks all calls, except those you specify. Please note, the app only works when the iPhone is locked. Your lock might come on after the phone is not used for 5 minutes or so, or you can lock the phone by single clicking the on/off button (not holding it down).
I hope this helps anyone as much as it has done me.

My son is in British Columbia, Canada playing hockey for several months. Specifically 5 hours North of Vancouver. Small town. (We are from the USA) Only wireless store there is Telus. He went in yesterday to buy an iphone...we've been round and round with Verizon and his bill is just outrageous.
I told him to just go in and get a "Canadian" iphone (if there is such a thing) sign up for the shortest period of time plan he can. Well, after everything was ready to go at the store, they all of a sudden said because he's 19 they had to do a credit check on him? For $200 no less, and that $200 was to be sent to the main Telus faciltiy in CASH!! What??
Part of the problem they say is it's because he has an American Visa card???
Wondered if I can order him an "unlocked" iphone 5 and send it to him and he can get a sim card there and pop it in??? I don't know?
Please if anyone can help, it would be really appreciated.

NO. For the montly bill for the term of the contract. This is normal for anyone and is not usnusual in any way. Verizon did a credit check on you when you signed up.

I have an iphone 4S and it has been doing crazy things like typing on its own. IT's like someone is shadowing my phone. Also, the left side of the phone keys get frozen, any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Nothng worst when you need to call or text someone urgently and i can not do it as computer takes over... thank and have a wonderful day!!

More than likely a failing display. You can try restoring it to see if that helps, but you'll probably have to have the phone replaced. make an appointment at the genius bar.
