Something has gone wrong. Turn your phone off, then force it into recovery mode:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new. In your case, select "new".

I tried to update my iphone 3GS with IOS6 and the update was incomplete. It then said retry so I did and it synced with my daughters ipod touch causing me to lose ALL of my information. Is there any way to retrieve my previous information or reset my phone to what it was? Unfortunately I dont thing I backed up my contacts, pictures, etc.

You need to put a sim card into the phone to be able to activate it - you can't activate a phone without a sim card.
If the phone has just been unlocked, then you don't need an AT&T sim card. Just put any sim card of your choice into the phone and if it is now unlocked, then it should work.

It's not uncommon for it to not work the first time and sometimes, you have to try it a few times. Turn off your antivirus software and your firewall while you are trying to restore the iPad. Enable them again after you restore.
If that still won't work, post back with detailed information as to what exactly does happen as you go through the process.

You must remember the code, if you can't then take the phone and proof of purchase to an Apple Store.

I am trying to reset my brother's iPhone that he no longer uses. He has upgraded to the iPhone 4. I do not know his passcode. I am unable to reach him to retrieve the passcode. How would I go about resetting the phone?
When I try to reset it by holding the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons, the phone's screen just flashes at me. It does that as well when I try to shut it off.

You would have to restore the phone on the last computer it was synced with. If you can't you would have to force it into recovery mode and restore it as a new iPhone, erasing all data and settings (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808).

Try and force iPad into Recovery Mode
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.
