‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

Software update has prevented me getting back into my iPad unless I sync it. It has never ever been synced and I don't own a computer to sync it to. How do I proceed?

wow, this is taking forever to communicate with anyone, I just want my $4.99 back from the movie rental I paid for. I paid for a rental, we were watching it, had to pause it, accidentally hit 'menu' on the apple remote, tried to get back into the movie, wouldn't let us, apple said ' go to settings, click downloads, select the rented movie from there',( not really a quote, but, close enough). So, we went to 'Settings' on main menu, but, there is no 'downloads' icon....I guess it is true: Do Not Rent from Apple TV'.

After installing ios5 and having had to change my apple id to e-mail address I am unable to download updates as they were purchased under my previous id and it will not allow me to get back into the old id Help please.
Make sure you enter your new Id in settings/message, settings/facetime. ANy content that you downloaded with the old ID is forever linked to that old ID and if you have apps that were downloaded with the old ID and you want to update them you can only do that with the old ID. You could delete those apps and downlad them again ( and pay for them if they are not free apps)

Recovery Mode
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times. -
I have an ipad 2 WiFi. I was in the hospital having surgery and forgot my password. I tried several times but couldn't get it. I ended up disabling my ipad. Have you been backing up to the cloud ? If you have then after resetting it back to factory defaults you can restore to that backup : Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support
If you bought it second hand then had the previous user removed their account from Settings > iCloud (and had Find My iPad enabled) on it ? Is Apple going to fix Safari 5.1.2? It has been a nightmare for since the update. I only had my Mac for a short period of time and didn't have the problem when I started. It all started when the update was loaded. It is puzzling when Mozilla FireFox works better, but slower than the Safari. I was told this browser was the best to use for Macs. I am not seeing it! I have empty the cache, reset Safari, and reset the prefences. I still can't images, server not found error, or best yet-not connected to the internet when the news ticker is running. What more can I do so I can make use of Safari? I am tired to reset and clear cache every time I wish to go browse.

I finally threw in the towel and called tech support since it is free for me for the moment after making my post this morning. They fix my Safari problem! First, they had me do a shut down and unplug the computer for 30 seconds. This idea didn't work for me. Then they had me go and change my DNS from my IP address that was listed to the following:
Go to System Preferences
Click on Network
Click Advance
Click on DSN
Under DSN Severs there is a plus sign. Click on it.
Type: 8.8.8.8
Add another by clicking the plus sign and Type: 8.8.4.4
Go back to the beginning--main page and push the Apply button and then close.
Open Safari to see if that works
This works! So far my Safari 5.1.2 is working like it was before the update on Lion and Safair package! I hope this will help some of you.
Thank you for trying to help me with my intitial question, but it turned out that I needed help from support and fix my DNS. This may not work for all of you, but I hope for some it can relieve the stress. -
Have Virgin Mobile iPhone 5 and they said it can't be unlocked. Reason to get it unlocked is so I can use the phone when travelling in Europe. This is crazy because I also payed for the phone in full... Also, what happens if you move to a region in the U.S. and service is bad...Your stuck with an expensive brick.. Any way to get it unlocked?
Not all carriers unlock their phones. They are under no legal obligation to do so in many places.

How do I get the phone to work again? It has no apps on it and the only thing I can do is make an emergency call and when I call it from another line I just get voicemail. Before restoring I backed up the info but don't know how to get it restored on the phone.

Why Can't I Get Back Into The App Store Via My iPhone4?
I just activated my iPhone 4 (Verizon) today and was downloading free apps w/o problem until a few hours ago when I could no longer gain access to the App Store.
When I click on the App Store it just gives me a "loading" message but nothing comes up.
Have Net access via wireless and 3g. Can do searches w/Safari and can get into the iTunes store, but not the App Store.
Is the App Store "down" or is there something I can do to "fix" this problem?
