  • IPhone 3GS Won't turn on after trying to install OS 4.1, HELP!

So i updated iTunes to the newest version earlier and then plugged in my iphone 3gs and downloaded the newest OS, 4.1 i think, it downloaded fine and then started to install then came up with an error on itunes and then the iphone turned off or something and wont turn back on, ive tried to charge it and leave it and its not working, help me please :S

P.S. I just noticed; when I hold the power and home button at the same time while it's plugged in as if I was going to restart it, my computer acts as if I'd plugged it in again (it makes the USB notification sound, itunes opens up again, I get the same "your iphone is in recovery mode" message, etc.), but that's the only response I've been able to get from pressing anything on the iphone. thanks again.

  • IPhone 3GS won't turn on or charge....

    Hello,
My Mrs got home from work today and thought her battery was dead so plugged in her iPhone, an hour later and still not turning on!!
It's stuck on the red battery with lightening sign underneath.
It's a 3GS - Optus 3.01 not jailbroken, bought from Telechoice in Westfield Eastgardens, Australia in June just after launch.
I've tried to hold down home and on/off buttons and it just re-boots into the same mode. I also tried connecting to the Mac and re-booting as i found through google this worked in other cases.
No joy though, looks like i'll have to take it back, do you reckon i should take it to the Apple shop in the city or back to the place of purchase? Or do you have any other ideas to get it to work?
    Thanks in advance eggs
EDIT: It's just suddenly switched on and beeped in to life whilst whilst attached to the iMac after i posted this, please delete the thread (how strange)

To all those who still have this problem, the following procedure might help you.
A friend of mine who has one of the early models of 3GS with OS 3.0 running had same problem.
This is what I did to fix it.
    1. Plugged in the phone to Computer, the screen showed up with empty battery.
    2. Held Home+Power button the phone blinked released Power button but still held the home button. iTunes recognized the phone and stated phone in Recovery MODE.
    3. Clicked restore to the latest version of the OS, as soon as the iTunes rebooted the phone to process the restore disconnected the phone. Did a restart, and wallah, the phone started fine.
If the second part of the process doesn't work for some people try switching the mute button to on or off. As couple of times the phone wouldn't boot to Recovery Mode.
Note: I had my computer speakers on so every time i could hear that the USB is connecting to a device or something like that. Also, when the phone booted in Recovery Mode i had a black screen so the only way I knew if it was in Recovery mode was because I had iTunes ON.
    Hope it helps some people.
And please ignore my grammar, English is not my native language.

  • IPhone 3GS won't turn on past the Apple logo and there's a swirling circle too...

Hi! For a while now, my iPhone has been a pain in my butt. I dropped it whilst out for a meal in April and it cracked the screen and did damage to the bettery which means that the iPhone turns off randomly when not connected to a power source (An Apple Genius has told me this).
But when out today, my iPhone shut off and it wouldn't turn on past the Apple logo. After about 30 seconds, a little circle like thing pops up on the bottom of the logo and starts to 'swirl' and it does nothing when connected to a power source.
I've hard reset it, connected it to iTunes and nothing seems to work. I tried restoring it in July and that didn't do anything to the phone at all.
Any help at all will be hugely appriciated and if anyone else has had the same problem as what I have, how do I fix it?
    Thank you!

Wow sure sounds like your iPhone is in really bad shape.
But the next step is a DFU Mode Restore. If this does not work your iPhone is telling you it needs major most likely expensive repairs, or outright replacement.
DFU Mode Restore, with iTunes open connect iPhone to your computer, hold both Home and Power buttons for exactly 10 seconds, release Power button continue holding Home button until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. Usually about 20 seconds longer. If the screen is blank, black this is DFU Mode. Restore the iPhone Firmware. DFU Mode again is iPhone in Recovery Mode per iTunes but has a blank, black screen. If not successful keep trying to get DFU Mode, it can be a bit difficult even for experienced users to get, keep trying.

  • HT201263 iphone 3 won't turn on at all

I dropped my hubby's iPhone 3 & now it will not turn on at all. No logo, no nothing. It is completely black, no sound from it. I have charged it, plugged it in to my Mac, tried to do a hard reset... nothing at all is helping. Any ideas? I need to get it working again asap.

"Hard reset" - no such thing, but if you meant iPhone reset (press both home and power buttons for up tp 30 seconds, releasing when the Apple logo appears) and there were no signs of life, there is hardware damage to the phone.  There is nothing you can do other than take it to Apple or whiever provides iPhone service in your country.

  • IPhone 3GS won't start at all...please help

My iPhone 3GS won't start at all, it only shows the apple logo untill the battery runs out and it keeps on doing that. It happened after I erased all contents & settings. I tried pressing home button & power button for 15 seconds too, it didn't work. Any other ideas?

while turned off, connect that to the wall charger, it should start normally
    after few minutes.
if it dont start then put your phone in dfu mode and connect to itunes for
a restore. for dfu mode search google.

My iPhone 5 won't turn on I have held the power button to see if it's dead or not and it doesn't seem to change the screen it just black I thought the battery could of died or something similar it only happened about 2 hours ago please help!

    Hey Thermali,
Thanks for the question, and great troubleshooting so far. To completely isolate the issue, you may want to follow these steps:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
    - Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
    - Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion.
    Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
    - Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
    - After at least 15 minutes, if:
                   - The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
                   - The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
                   - Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
    - If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
                   - If the display turns on, go to step 4.
                   - If the display remains black, go to next step.
    - Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to
restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
    - If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • My iphone 5 won't turn on but when plugged into power source it keeps showing apple logo?

My iPhone 5 won't turn on at all and then when I plug it into a power source either into a plug socket or into my laptop with the USB cable it keeps showing start up screen with apple logo over and over again on a loop.
I have tried holding the top and front button together, this didn't work. I have also tried connecting to my laptop and following the reboot steps that I found on another discussion forum. Neither worked for me. The phone just won't reboot and it keeps continuing to loop the apple logo screen over and over without me touching anything.
The iPhone won't even connect to itunes and so itunes seems to not recognise my phone because its not even turning on (just continually apple logo screen appears for 5 seconds, goes to black screen and then repeats).
I don't know what is happening to it! Can anyone help? Is it a fault with the hardware or have I dont something to it? The next appointment at the genius bar for me is monday so I'm going to keep looking for any more recent ones until then but I really need to get it sorted before then so if anyone can help that would be great!
    Thanks

Try a reset when your iPhone is plugged into the charger as you say it does not respond when not plugged in...
Press and hold the Home and On/Off buttons simultaneously until you see the Apple logo, then release.  This may take up to 10 seconds.  This is the equivalent of a re-boot and you will not lose any data.
See if it will charge after this.

  • IPhone 3GS won't restore (error 1600 or "not eligible for this build") no apple logo, recognised in DFU mode.

My iPhone 3GS decided to turn itself off (on 30% battery) yesterday and hasn't turned on since. After some testing (hard resets, DFU mode), tiny umbrella recognises it in DFU mode, as does Redsn0w. neither devices can successfully kick the phone out of the restore loop.
The screen stays blank throughout, no apple logo, connect to itunes logo etc. however every now and then the charging sign will appear (empty battery with a little bit filled (red)). even if i unplug it from my iMac the charging symbol stays there.
once I get the phone in DFU mode iTunes recognises that there is a phone connected that needs to be restored, it doesn't matter if I click restore or option + restore the process will fail on Error 1600 or "this device is not eligible for this build".
My iPhone is not unlocked or jailbroken. Before the incident with the coffee I managed to synchronize and update its firmware as indicated by iTunes. The latest update for my iPhone was iOS 5 firmware.  My intent is not to unlock or jailbrake the device, just to make it work again.
Here are some things I've tried since:
    1. Exiting recovery mode via Tinyumbrella
    2. Entering DFU mode via Redsn0w
    3. Shift + Restore and using firmwares from 5.0 to 5.0.1 to upgrade my iPhone.
    4. Remove hosts to my Host file (in relation to the "device not eligible for this build" issue)
    5. Try redsn0w and use IPSW to see if it is recognized by iTunes (iTunes recognizes the iPhone but then at the very last minute shows error 1600.
    6. Save SHSH files and use Tinyumbrella to uploaded them to my iPhone.
I would really appreciate if someone can help me on this. I might be doing something wrong or maybe not even considering the right steps to solve this issue. I don't know if there are missing drivers that are preventing the device from communicating with iTunes properly. Of some tool that can be used to correct this problem. It may or may not be fixable but I think it is worth the try.
    Thanks very much.

please ignore the comment about coffee. Someone posted a very similar question apart from he spilt coffee on his phone, I didn't.
