HT201263 iPhone 4s locked up after failed attempts. Power button is jammed

My friends iPhone locked up after he forgot his password. He gave it to me because I usually fix iDevices around my school. Well, I thought it would be a simple fix but his power button is jammed. I can't enter recovery mode to restore. I tried using tinyumbrella to enter recovery mode but it isn't detecting his iPhone. I need help. Please

When the iPhone turns OFF due to battery running down, open iTunes on computer, hold down Home button and keep holding while connecting iPhone to computer, keep holding until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode (this should take less than 20 seconds of holding down home button), then click Restore button of iTunes.

  • HT201263 iPhone not recognized by iTunes and my power button doesn't work

My iPhone just shut down after a call, battery was around 60%, its power button doesn't work and iTunes doesn't recognize it. I can't put it in DFU mode because that's by pressing home and power simultaneously but I don't have a power button. I can't restores via iTunes because it doesn't recognize it. What am I supposed to do?!!

Same thing happened to me today...when googling found people having same problem with iphone 4 and said to hold power and home buttons to reboot.  It worked! I was in a panic but its like it never happened...everything is as it was before. Even showed a missed call...

    As documented ...
FAILED_LOGIN_ATTEMPTS is a property of a profile, and will lock an account
SEC_MAX_FAILED_LOGIN_ATTEMPTS is an initialization parameter and will drop a connection but says nothing about locking accounts.

  • My iphone constantly freezes up. Pressing the power button gets to an application but cannot get to another application-any ideas?

My iphone constantly freezes up. Pressing the power button usually gets me to the last application used but does not allow me to change applications.
    Ant ideas?

Try resetting it. Hold down the on/off button at the top right and the home botton at the bottom at the same time for abour 5-15 seconds. This will not affect your data. The cycle the iPhone back on. That should clear up the problem

  • Can I get  a free replacement iPhone 4S if my Power button is jammed?

I've had my iPhone 4S since February 2012 so obviously my one year warranty that came with my phone is done. I just wanted to know that if I take in my iPhone to an apple store if they'll replace it with no charge even though my warranty is done. My power button just jammed yesterday and when I press it, it's rock solid and doesn't move at all.

Now that you mentioned it, that might be the source of the problem. Something was definitely wrong with my graphics card before the incident happened. You mean that particular batch of graphics cards had some inherent issues, right? I went to the genius bar, and the 'genius' there, without trying to diagnose the problem properly, just adviced me to buy a new mbp! He said Apple will no longer try to fix or touch macs older than 5 yrs. Mine is 5.5 yrs old...

  • Iphone 4s locking up after ibook cloud download?

when i try to download books from the cloud, my iphone 4s locks up.  the first time this happened, i was able to unlock it by syncing on itunes.  this time it's not working.  any ideas?

Sorry, but there is no way to downgrade the iOS. To make sure your backup did not contain damaged files after upgrading and restoring, set it up as new device without using the backup and no 3rd party apps installed. If the phone is working after that, add the 3rd party apps back.

  • Iphone 4 shuts down after disconnecting from power cable

My iphone 4 completely shuts down after disconnecting from power cord. The screen goes blank. However, if I re-plug the power supply it turns on with the date and time changed but my battery status is 86%.

Reset, hold both Home and Power buttons for about 15 seconds until iPhone restarts. If everthing is OK, great. If not, connect to iTunes and try to Restore the Firmware. If still problems, make appointment with Apple Genius for Warranty service.

  • MBP locks, thus force shutdown w/ Power button, then catastrophic app probs

I have had two unexpected system lock ups which may be releated to low battery power, but have then caused catastrophic application problems. I do not want answers to the individual application problems here, I will refer to other Apple Support pages and forums for those. I'm interested in other users experience of the same catastrophic failures, if at all.
    Event 1. (OSX 10.4.8)
I was using the MPB on battery and I knew the power was running low, afraid I can't remember how low but I'm sure it was below 10%. Without warning iPhoto crashed with an exception popup which said that it was related to low power - I didn't note the exact wording. The machine remained on, but I couldn't do anything with it, so I had to shut it down by holding down the power button.
    When I next used it, it seemed much of the applications I had had running at the time had all got corrupted;
    - iPhoto: my library was gone next time I opened it. All the photo files are still there but some complain they are corrupted when trying to view them. I'd been using iPhoto at the time and rotating a lot of photos. Photos loaded and rotated in that session seemed to have survivied, ones unrotated complain of corruption when I try to view them. Other threads have suggested I need to do a complete rebuild.
    - Dashboard: my whole set up has gone and it has reverted to a vanilla original set up.
    - Trackpad: my settings had all disappeared and I had to set it up from scratch again.
    - Skype: It no longer remembered my login details. This I found interesting as it is not an Apple app.
    Event 2. (After 10.4.9 upgrade)
The second time I had left the MBP plugged in and in sleep mode, so it should have been well charged. A friend unplugged it to use the socket. When I went to use it it was still asleep. It was asleep and unplugged no more than 24 hours but my experience is it can live like this for days, so it should not have drained all power.
I could wake it but I have a password set and the system would not register the key presses I made for the pwd in the pwd box. ie. no *'s appeared each time I typed. The MBP was working because as I tried to wake it by doing various key presses I obviously did something which made it play a track from my iTunes library which had been running when I last put it to sleep.
    Eventually again I had to shut it down using the power button. This time when I started it up I had the following;
    - iTunes: It said my library was corrupted and it had to rename it and set it aside and create a new one, all my Music is there but it looks like I will have to rebuild.
    - Mail: When I started Mail this time it requested I set up a mail account as if it was the first time I had used it. It looks like most of my mail files still exist in my Library/Mail folder but I somehow need to recover the mail account.
    - Messenger: my icon I used doesn't work and it has defaulted to the icon associated with my MBP account I log in with. I understand this could be because the image I used for my icon came from my iPhoto library and it doesn't take a copy.
I am half way through recalibrating my battery as suggested elsewhere in these forums. After this I will reset the PMU/SMC. However after days of trawling the forums I have yet to find anyone describes problems like these, so I have reluctantly decided to start a new thread to see if anyone has had similar experiences.
My MBP is 5 months old, bought at the London Apple Store in Nov 2006.
MacBook Pro 17" 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Memory 2 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM
Intel MacBook Pro 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I came to a similar conclusion after trying Disk Utility.  It said the disk needs to be reformatted.  Unfortunately, I've not been doing TimeMachine backups for 2-3 months due to problems I had with it.  one of those "I'll take care of that sometime soon" things where soon doesn't get here.
Right now I'm getting ready to hook up the backup drive and see what I can rescue.

  • After installing Mavericks, power button does not put my iMac to sleep.

After installing OS X Mavericks, the power button does not work as before, any help?
    Thanks
    Victor

CT, the behavior of the power button on Mavericks (10.9.2) is not as the note (OS X Mavericks: Using the power button - Support - Apple) describe. I have to press four or five times de power button in order to put the mac to sleep.

  • Pavilion dv6z notebook - shut down a few seconds after pressing the power button

Pavilion vd6z powers up for 5 seconds (I see the HP logo screen and the Windows startup asks if it should launch the Repair or Start Normally) then it shuts off.
I have removed the battery/disconnected the adapter and held the power button in for over a minute several times, removed and replaced the memory, blown the dust from the cooling fan & heat sink.  I also have tried booting with the hard drive removed.  The same issue exists if I have the battery in or not.  After all of the these steps, the system still starts up and then powers off after just a couple seconds.
If I press ESC to enter SETUP, the system will still power off.
The warranty expired a few weeks ago and HP tech support can not help me...other than suggesting that I put a post on the forum.
Has anyone experience a similar problem and found a solution?

    Hello again visionpga.
If you've used known working memory and the problem still exists then you've ruled out many of the causes as you've tried testing all the hardware which you can test. I believe you're experiencing a motherboard issue which is likely a short. This repair is possible for you to do yourself if you have technical experience or you could have the notebook repaired by HP.
If you want to try repairing the notebook yourself I'll need your product number. This document shows how to locate the product number.
The US/Canadian number for HP Support is 1-800-474-6836. If you're in another country you'll need to visit HP Support Worldwide to locate the contact information.
If you have any other questions just let me know.
Please click the white star under my name to give me Kudos as a way to say "Thanks!"
Click the "Accept as Solution" button if I resolve your issue.

  • I have an iphone 4S and it is within the warranty period. However my power button is jammed. Will i get an over the counter replacement in any store in the USA?

I am currently situated in India and they have a messed up replacement policy but, if i send my phone with the bill and everything will i get an over the counter replacement? The phone was bought in August 2012 and the power button jammed in November 2012. Also, does Apple only replace the phone or the earphones and everything that comes with it?

You will have to physically take the iPhone to an Apple store in the US,
if that is where it was purchased. If you are not going to be in the US, send
it to a friend or relative there to take into Apple for you, and then that person
can ship it back to you - shipping costs and insurance are your responsibility.
Apple does not accept international shipments for replacement nor will Apple
ship a replacement out of the country where replacement is made. Only your
iPhone - if determined to be defective - will be replaced, and your iPhone is all
you need to take to Apple.
iPhone warranty is valid only in country of original purchase - it has always been
this way for iPhones. The replacement policy is not messed up - it is working as
designed. Apple India would not have the correct handset to replace the one you
    purchased in the US.

  • Can we put iphone 3gs into  DFU mode with out power button

My Iphone 3gs power button not working, so is there any way I can put my iphone into DFU mode..

No - you can't put the phone in recovery mode or DFU mode without a functioning sleep/wake (power) button.
Note that DFU mode is only useful when hacking the phone.  Recovery mode is what you want for troubleshooting.

  • [hardware issue]A30 notebook no response after click on power button

    Hello,
my laptop Toshiba A30 was bought in PC world five years ago. Recently I found after I started my notebook by clicking on my power button. Five lights in front is on and fan is on as well, but after 2 seconds, it's off. I cannot log in to my bios.
Sometimes (once a week)I can start my notebook and it shows times errors, the system time is back to 2002. I have re-install my notebook, but after one day, I cannot start as well. So I guess it's maybe board battery problem. Then I changed my notebook motherboad battery, I found it's still not workable.
I guess if it is something related to capacitor.
Did anybody meet the same case before? Thank you in advance.
    Mike

There are many issues which can cause your unit to react like it does.  Overheating is a prime concern. Also, hard drive may have died or you picked up a virus/trojan.  Is the power supply functional to charge the battery, have you tried running on battery only?  Have it been cleaned, and did you reinsert all cables completely in board housing?  Any power surges there? Are you using a quality protector?
