HT201263 iPhone update ends with unknown error occured (14)

And not only this - it keeps showing the USB - iTunes picture on the screen of the phone. I can not go any forward nor backward. Totally stuck. My first negatuve experience with Apple is really frustrating. I have tried also all of the recommendations given in the regular support - updated all the softwares, made numerous restarts, changes USB ports.
Anybody else knows how to get out of this?

    Hello there, BundyA.
Error 3 is usually associated to security software settings. The following Knowledge Base article provides some great information and links for troubleshooting the issue:
Resolve specific iTunes update and restore errors
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694
    This section should prove useful:
    Configure your security software
Check your security software and settings, which can block ports and prevent connection to Apple servers during update and restore.
    Common errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006, 9807, 9844. Sometimes as a result of this issue, a device might stop responding during the restore process.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

  • HT201413 HELP!  I was updating my iphone 4S to the new IOS6 via itunes when in the in the middle of the process of actually updating the iphone OS, it suddenly returned an error - "The iPhone could not be updated.  An unknown error occurred (1602)"  PLEAS

    PLEASE HELP!!!
I am using an HP DV9 laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium and the latest iTunes software.
I regularly synch my iphone 4S with my laptop & Outlook.
I recently got the message that an IOS6 upgrade is available & so I scheduled to apply the update.
Everything was running normally when, after the download of the update, backup of my iphone, & applying the update began when
suddenly, iTunes returned with an ERROR MESSAGE as follows:
The iPhone "Ramon's iPhone" could not be updated.  An unknown error occurred (1602)
Now, my iphone is stuck with the iTunes icon and the USB image with an arrow pointing to the iTunes
    icon.
    WHAT DO I DO NOW?????!!!!!
    Help PLEASE!!!!

I actually tried the steps below due to the error -5000 I had encountered during the previous tries updating my IOS to 5.1.1
"Perform a normal sync and check your iTunes to make sure everything was synced in the right places like the tabs at the top of your "summary" when you plug in your iPhone to iTunes.  If everything is there and all the right boxes are checked for the stuff you want to save, then put your phone into recovery mode by keeping it plugged into your computer with iTunes still up and running. Next you want hold down the power button AND the home key button (the big button on the bottom part of your screen) AT THE SAME TIME. Your phone will go thru 4 different screens before you
Can let them go.  U will see your normal power off slider screen, then a black screen, then a black screen with an apple logo, then finally a screen with the iTunes logo and a picture of a sync cable below it. Once you see this screen LET BOTH BUTTONS GO but not before you see this screen.  Your computer will tell you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode, say ok.  Then hit the restore button on your iTunes summary screen, it should then ask you if you want to restore from a backup and update, say yes.... And at the end of its restoring and uploading you should have iOS 5!!"
Then it proceeded to a reactivation process... =(

  • The iphone could not be updated. An unknown error (occured 4005)

I have a problem with updating my iPhone 5 to IOS7. Everytime I go to update the iPhone to IOS7, I get this "The iphone could not be updated. An unknown error (occured 4005)" error. It stays stuck at "waiting for iphone" then the 4005 error pops up after like 10-15 minutes of "waiting for iphone".
Also it leaves my iPhone in the "connect to itunes" screen after the error pops up. And when I try turning the iphone on and off and restarting it, the iphone still stays stuck at the "connect to itunes" screen and I have to use software to unlock the phone so I can actually use my phone.
The screenshot of this problem is below. Someone help, my itunes is updated to the latest version as well.

I've got a similar problem only mine says unknown error (2001). During the initial installation of this months update a USB cord plugging in the iTunes icon showed up on the screen. It stayed there for about 2 minutes and then the iPhone rebooted. It repeated this cycle more times then I can count. I'm happy to say that it is now working. But non the less I've been pretty frustrated with the iPhone and Leopard sometimes.
In response to a comment that it seems that every iTunes related software update seems buggy I would have to say that I agree. I've been using Macs since 1987 and I have to say that in past 3-4 years Apple has changed a lot. It's more popular then ever before. It's products are even more stylish and innovative then ever before. But the rising demand for Macs has forced Apple to cut corners it seems. In some ways Apple products aren't what they used to be.

the ipod could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (5)
I got this error when trying to update from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2. I dont want to go to 1.1.3 so i have been trying to upgrade by using iPhone1,11.1.2_3B48bUpdate and pressing shift then update in itunes but then it goes through all the processes and comes back with this error. It even goes into recovery mode! Can anyone help?
    Thanks Sam

if itunes can no longer pickup your ipod, and you cant even do anything to your ipod, your best option is to either call apple care, or just take it to the nearest apple shop. i had a similar problem, mines currently at apple care repairs and they might just end up giving me a replacement.

  • "The iPod "stu's iPod" cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred [-50]"

I plug my new ipod nano 2gen into windows... then it pops up in Itunes, But After i had put all my songs on, everytime i want to take some off or sync with the ipod with my new podcasts or pictures.. it says on the monitor thats its updating my ipod, but my ipod is showing no sign of updating.
When its updating the ipod i think it say's "do not disconnect" But it doesn't
Then after a minute error message on computer saying
"The iPod "stu's iPod" cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred [-50]"
Any help would be appricated. Thanks in advance.

Found out my problem.. i think.
Now for people who might have the same problem getting there ipod to snyc, then this is what i did, which made my ipod work and snyc properly.
After the error sign, i click restore all my ipod's info and data to defualt. Then when i asked me to snyc for the first time in the box... "snyc'ing either my music and or photo's" NOW, every time i did this, i clicked on snyc my music. but i since just now, if i uncheck the "snyc my music", so nothing will be uploaded to the ipod, and manage my MUSIC my self. All i do now is drag my music playlists and it either updates the ipod, if the ipod already has a version of the play list. But thats just wiht my music. I can now snyc all my podcasts and photos using the Sync button.
Hope this is of help to SOME ONE!
Im so pleased now... things are accutally working...!
    Good day people.

  • Itunes could not connect to the iPhone "" because of an unknown error occur

New to iTunes and iPhone (3g 8gig black)...
Apple store was unable to activate the phone in the store...
I installed iTunes today 7.7.0.43 and plugged in phone and got the message:
itunes could not connect to the iPhone "" because of an unknown error occurred (0xE8000035).
Vista thinks I have a "Digital Still Camera" when i plug it in but the driver for the "Digital Still Camera" fails to install...
    I rebooted the computer.
I restarted the iphone (Pushed top button then slide to power off and then pushed again to power on)
I reset the iphone (top and home button for 10-15 seconds till i saw apple logo)
    any ideas?
ps - i tried calling 1-800-my-iphone but i was unable to get to a person - is their tech support always that crappy or just today since its launch day?

This may not make you feel any better, but it's not you, it's not your new phone, and it's not the way Apple normally works. It is extreme overload for today. I have one of the original iPhones, and today I tried to simply get the new software, and after all the download and firmware updating, I got the same message you did. It had persisted all day, and, I'm sorry to say, is likely to for the rest of the day. I'm on a Mac, so it's not a Vista thing, either. Other people I know who bought the new phone are also experiencing the same thing. Spread the word! Discourage anyone from upgrading today! Or they, too, will be WITHOUT A PHONE!!
    Good luck to us all,
    Shelley

  • The iPod (bla bla bla) cannot be updated. An unknown error occured (-208)

I am gettign strange errors, to which I can find no explination, solutions or even a mention of. Upon syncing my iPod nano with iTunes 7.0.2 I get an error "The iPod (bla bla bla) cannot be updated. An unknown error occured (-208)"
There is an Apple error code for -208:
-208 badFileFormat File is corrupt or unusable, or not AIFF or AIFF-C
It then syncs the music correctly, but not the photos or the contacts. When setting the contacts to be updated, iTunes says "No Contacts available. Open Address Book and create contacts?" Address Book is full of cantact and has been for years.
    The system log has:
    2007-01-12 01:21:01.012 iTunes[506] CFLog (0):
CFPropertyListCreateFromXMLData(): plist parse failed; the data is not proper UTF-8. The file name for this data could be:
    /Users/el1mjw/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/Local/clientdata/0063006f006d002e006100700070006c0065002e0 06900730079006e006300440055002e00690070006f0064002e00410032003700300030003100320 03300320045004300460035/recordids.syncidmap
The parser will retry as in 10.2, but the problem should be corrected in the plist.
Can anyone point me in the direction of a solution?
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hope this will help!
Itune 7 has MAJOR problem with shuffle with Window system, not with MAC.
    So download itune 6 @ http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
Then bring your ipod to a local apple store for resetting your ipod, telling them you want it for WINDOW use @ http://www.apple.com/retail/
I can feel your pain, bro! I literally had a nightmare a week ago. I almost started a major BOYCOTT movement nationally against (corrupt, greedy) APPLE using my connection with a nationally popular talk radio host. Thank GOD, I at least found a solution. I hope APLLE will work so hard to come up with better version of itune 7 soon!

  • My iPod cannot be updated.  An unknown error occurred (-208)

When I plugged in my iPod to my computer, this is the message that popped up:
The iPod cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred (-208).
What does this mean? All the new stuff I just purchased off iTunes isn't on my iPod and I don't really know what is wrong to fix it. Can anyone help? Anyone seen this error message before?

It's actually not stalling on any songs. It shows me that the songs all transfer and are on my iPod...it's so weird. It will show the songs on the iPod in my iTunes while it's plugged in (and no...I'm not just looking in my libary), but once's it's unplugged the songs are not on my iPod to listen to! And that error message pops up as soon as I plug in my iPod before I do anything.
I even restored my iPod to factory settings! Nothing works!
    Help!

  • Iphone cannor be restored. unknown error occured (1654)

Have I just lost all my data? ..after syncing to 5.1 (from 4.3)
    Can anyone please help?

So Finally I have the solution!!!
After my phone said "unknown error occured (1645)"
Some experts said I destroyed the baseband.. but it was not exactly the case...
my phone - after installation process finished to ios 5.1 said thet the restore file was either damaged or the phone is not compatible
but do not get scared - it seems pretty normal
on the phone, chose "set up as a new Phone"
follow the instruction on the creen, sign in with your apple ID, create iCloud, connect to WiFi (this may not be the  correct cronological order, but you will know what I mean) create and do everything it says, and at the end, you will get the half of the job done...
At this point, I had all my accounts back on the phone, text messages, all the contacts in the list, my recent calls' list etc.. everything but my apps. But since I created a back up of the old phone and also I synced the apps, I had all my apps in my iTunes
So, simply I had to choose the apps I wanted to have back on the phone, and synced them
    so it was dome!
    Everything is back to normal
    FYI
Some collected background information for those who need to understand the reasons - or get some clue...
Changing so much - ios 4.3 to ios 5.1 means a very steep gradient for the phone, so there is no way of restoring the phone if ios 5.1 got installed, but it is not the end of the story, as luckily I LOST nearly NO DATA, whatsoever... (only music - as I had not stored my mp3s on my PC - but I can put them back any time)
Since this ios update changed the baseband of the phone it refused to get the old back, that was the reason why I could not restore back up, when I thought something went wrong.
Thanks for the helping words anyway
(read previous posts to make sure you had backup, software upgrade etc...)
