HT201263 My 4th gen ipod touch is 6 mos old and will not turn on

My 4th gen ipod touch is 6 mos old. Tried to turn on today and nothing.  Plugged into computer held down sleep/wake button and plugged into computer with usb.  Nothing.  It has not been dropped or bumped.  It has been stored as I don't use it often only to play music on spotify thru internet.  I probably haven't used this ipod more than 20 times.  Any suggestions?

- After being connected to a charging source for at least an hour see if placing the iPod in Recovery mode will allow a restore.
- If not successful time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • 4th gen iPod touch worked fine yesterday, this morning will not power on

I've always used my iPod for almost everything, contact, notes memos, calender planning, videos and internet stuff. I have a special cord I connect to the wide screen tv and can play videos and any movies directly from the internet. A video system for the car to play from my iPod for the kids. In other words it's a very important device for me. It worked fine last night as always. This morning I went to use it I got nothing, no apple icon or anything. I tought maybe I left it on, so I connected it to power. 20 minutes later, no signs of life. I removed the protective rubber case I keep it in to prevent accidental breakage and noticed beads of moisture inside the case. Could this be related some how? I'm hoping this is something I can at home. I really can't afford to be without this too long,
(important contacts and job related notes and such). Please help, Thanks.

You may end up erasing the iPod. Just restore from backup if that is the case
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My 4th generation ipod touch is in recovery mode and will not restore

Everytime i try to restore my ipod it loads until there is a little bit left to load and then shuts off and itunes says that there is an unknown error (9) and can not restore. Does anyone know what that means and/or what i can do?

Hi @rchangel - Thanks for the ideas...
Yes - it won't let you install the 32 bit version on a 64 bit machine.
I've had a cursory look at the SP1 release notes, and couldn't spot anything vital - what critical stuff do you know of in SP1?
I don't want to have to go through all the pain of setting up VM's, reinstalling iTunes, getting all my album art back in etc. (though I could, as I do have Win7 pro). I've also heard that running iTunes in Windows 7 compatibility mode might help. Can anyone confirm whether that actually works?
I think it's in Apple's gift to fix this issue, given that they say that they support Windows 7. So far I've had no feedback from a mail I sent to Apple, and the number of users reporting this problem keeps going up and up.
I want Apple to recognise that there is a problem, and then I want them to fix it.

  • My ipod touch keeps flashing the logo and will not turn on nor does the computer recognizes it.

I downloaded Cydia a couple of days ago, now my Ipod touch keeps flashing the apple logo.

    Try the remaining items here:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
If not successful and you can't turn the iPod completely off let the battery fully drain. After charging for at least of hour try again.
If still not successful then time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Let the battery fully drain. After charging for an hour, try the reset and connect to computer and try to restore.

    Hi paul.lisa,
Then when you press down on one of those icons (on the actual Home screen), and all the icons start to wiggle, a small black "x" should show up in the upper left-hand corner:

Apple will most likely exchange it. The one you receive will be refurbished.

My 160GB ipod classic stopped whilst playing music and will not turn back on despite having almost a full battery. I have tried connecting to itunes and a docking station but will not turn on at all - HELP?!
I've had this from new for 2 years, the battery life is excellent and lasts for days so I know it's not a power issue as it was fully charged that morning. No signs of connection in itunes, it's not showing as a connected device.
    Can anyone please help?

  • Ipod touch was working, shut down and will not power up

Ipod was working. Went dead and will not power up. The unit was charged. I connect it to a charger and I get nothing. Tried the power and home button combo but the unit is not responding. It is less than 6 months old

Try restoring the iPod via iTunes on your computer.  If iTunes does not see the iPod:
    - place the iPod in recovery mode.  See:

  • My second gen iPod touch has a blank screen, and won't turn on or charge in an AC outlet. When plugged into iTunes, it is completely recognized and synced, but the screen remains blank and off. What can I do?

    Hello.
I recently woke up this morning to use my iPod Touch (2nd Gen) to find that it was completely unresponsive to both buttons and would not turn on. I had been using it the night before and had not charged it. Thinking the battery was drained, I plugged it into a wall outlet for two hours, and still no sign of life on the iPod. Plugging it into the computer, it immediately showed up in iTunes and synced normally, and even indicated it had nearly a full charge. Still, however, the screen showed nothing. I checked the lock and home buttons to see if it was stuck, but it was not. Does anyone have an idea of what this is? Do I need to get my iPod repaired? Any help would be appreciated.
I am running iOS 4.1, and am out of warranty coverage.
    Thanks,
    - Justin

1; Do a hard rest by holding the buttons at least 15 seconds. Does the Apple logo come on?
    2. Hold the power button down for at least 5 seconds. Do you see the battery symbol?
If the answer is no to both questions, you most likely have a hardware issue--possible bad battery.

  • My Ipod suddenly has a white screen and will not turn off.  What can I do?, My Ipod suddenly has a white screen and will not turn off.  What can I do?

My daughter was playing on her Ipod Touch when the screen went white.  It will not turn off or do anything.  Has anyone else had this problem and know what may work?

The same thing just happened to my new ipod today while i was trying to use an app. A lot of people say that it is caused by an ios update, but I let the battery on my ipod drain until it turned off.  Once i charged it, it turned on and is working normally again

  • My iPod has a flickering black screen and will not turn on. What can I do?

I accidentally left my iPod in my car for a few hours. It reached about 80 degrees outside, so I am worried. It did not turn on at all. Afterwards, I let it cool down and it still will not turn on. I plugged it into my laptop (PC) and it still does nothing. If flickers between two shades of black, but it does not do anything. I am starting to think it may have affected the battery. I have been experiencing problems with it not wanting to turn on without being plugged in for months now, but I did not really do anything about it.
I need help. I do not know what to do, so any form of help will be greatly apreciated!

I was afraid of this, to be honest. I kind of figured that I broke it completely.
I no longer have a warranty on it because I have had it for about three years, so I do not even know if it is worth taking in or if I would be better off with buying a new one.
If I were to replace the battery, would that help with the display or would it still be flickering a black screen?
    * Sidenote: I do not like that I am not too savvy when it comes to Apple products, so I apolgize if it seems like I am repeating myself or sound confusing.
