Place the device in DFU mode (google it) then restore.
At this point, there is no way to recover anything, the device must be restored. If the device has been synced and backed up regularly the data loss will be minimal.

power down your phone and unplug from your computer
hold down the home button then plugin and wait till you get a message about an iphone in recovery mode
follow the instructions on screen to restore your phone
(this will wipe out your phone but it is the only option other than remembering your passcode)
in the setup screen after its restored you can restore information from icloud or a backup given you have one

I have tried holding the sleep and home button to reset but it just flashes then goes off for a second then the apple log appears again. I have tried to reset it by plugging into the laptop but the ipod is locked by a password which I can't enter as it won't go past the logo - hel please

Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
   1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
       other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

once logo appears that should solve the issue
if still that doesn't fix the issue
put your device into DFU mode, which is a bit complicated
so check atleast a couple of videos first on YOUTUBE before u follow it
do not need to worry that will fix the issue

Apple Logo appears and wont reset

I've tried resetting my ipod touch but the Apple Logo just appears on the screen. There will be an occasional glitch every 10 min or so and then the apple logo returns. It's been like this for a little over an hour.
Does anyone have any advise of what I should do?

Let it sit for a while then press the power button. If it continuse to glitch, re-reset it. hold power and home button,if that doesn't work, it may be it's battery is dead, an you need to charge it.

RECENTLY IVE BEEN HAVING TROUBLE WITH MY ALMOST 2 MONTH OLD IPHONE 4S 64 GB.
FROM TIME TO TIME I USED TO HAVE TROUBLE WITH THE IPHONE WHEN NEEDED TO SYNC TO ITUNES. DIDNT RECOGNIZED, ETC BUT FINALLY WORKED OUT FINE.
THIS PAST 3 DAYS I TRIED ALMOST 4 CABLES FROM ALL MY OLD IPHONE 3GS, IPAD, IPAD 2 AND DIDNT WANTED TO CHARGE.
THEN TRIED WITH THE CAR CHARGER AND WORKED AND CHARGED FINE BUT WOULDNT SYNC WITH MY PC.
I FOUND OUT THAT THE WAY TO CHARGE MY IPHONE WAS FIRST TURNING IT OFF, AND THEN CONNECTING IT TO ITS CABLE AND THEN IT CHARGED, TRIED TO DO THE SAME WITH THE PC,BUT NO FORTUNE WONT SYNC.
I RESET/RESTART THE IPHONE 4S AND IT JUST KEEP DOING THE SAME.
ANY WORD OF ADVICE?'

Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.

I am wondering if I need to eject my iPhone from iTunes or if it is fine to unplug the phone without ejecting.

If it's connected to your computer and synced with iTunes you should eject it. If it's only plugged into a wall outlet and not your computer, just unplug it (since there's nothing to eject it from).

Hey, I've got two suggestions for you, one is better than the other. Both are based on personal experience.
Better, but still inconvenient: There is an app that's causing you issues. I had a bad installation of an RSS reader that was causing slowness, reboots, and very, very long backups. When I restored the iPhone, I did so without any apps and lo, the problems were gone. When I reinstalled that app, they came back. I know things are supposed to be walled off and such, but I've seen a number of apps updated to fix a memory leak, and those can cause issues. The app has since been updated and the issue went away.
Second, and more painful: The battery is, in fact, on the way out. Same iPhone, a year later. Battery wasn't holding a charge. Acted a bit like you describe. Stupidly allowed a non Apple certified person do the fix, as he charged less than half of the $2200 Apple wanted. Now I have a 3GS because he botched the repair and Apple got the $200 anyhow.
I hope it's the first, I really do. But that battery is pushing 3 years old, and I'm sure it's been cycled enough times that it's near its end of life. Might want to consider one of the better third party repair shops that will do a diagnostic for free or a nominal fee. Avoid Bubba in the next town over at all costs. I should have.

HT4061 found old iphone 4. want to use it for wifi. But it wont let me into my iphone. it says activation required and then plug into itunes, then as soon as I plug it into itunes it flashes the apple logo on and off and wont be detected on itunes.

If you dropped it in water, and then plugged it in, you may very well have destroyed the battery and/or the logic board. Charging/plugging in to a power source is very damaging to wet electronic devices. There is not much you can do but replace the entire iPhone...and since you did repairs yourself Apple will not do an out-of-warranty replacement.
You can try replacing the battery, the lightning port is another issue, but I would not expect that iPhone to work again.
