  • Missing power off app button

I've just installed the latest update and discovered my power off app button has gone. I've discovered from other online forums that you can get round this by clicking on the battery icon (top right) but surely BlackBerry should have tried to fix the app problem and not just take it away? Many users will have come to rely on the power off app. BlackBerry please explain this madness!

I can only assume that they've removed it because the functionality is replicated in the battery icon, as you've pointed out - and also when you hold the power button for a few seconds.
My personaly feeling is that having power as an 'app' is redundant anyway because of these other two methods. Indeed, you couldn't access the power options through the battery icon in the first PlayBook release.
I didn't know it had been removed because I'd deleted the app from my PlayBook a long time ago.

    - If you did not charge the iPod for a couple of hours before you did the reset then charege and reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Then connect to your computer and if iTunes sees the iPod restore via iTunes.
    - Next see if recovery mode will allow iTunes to see the iPod so you can restore the iPod. For recovery mode:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    - Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Most intelligent people would not store such sensitive data on a device that could so easily be lost, stolen, or damaged.  Even if they chose to do so, they would use the device as designed and regularly sync and backup that device as described in the User's Guide.
Have you done so?  If you have, all of the data is either in iCloud or iTunes on your computer.  Replace the device and restore the new iDevice with the backup of the old one.

Without iTunes on a computer there is nothing that you can do. If you are locked out because you forgot the passcode your only solution is to restore the iPad using iTunes on a computer.
I don't know exactly want you mean by it is not responding - does that mean that it will not power up again?

  • Computer froze, had to power off with button, now won't restart

Can not get computer to restart after a hard power off

Your computer is restarting.  It's just not getting to the desktop.  Please disregard my previous response to you.
Shut down your computer and disconnect all peripherals (keyboard & mouse if pertinent) from your computer.  Now reboot. If the Mac starts up normally, shut it down again and then plug in one of the peripherals (keyboard or mouse first) and start up your computer again.  If it does so successfully repeat the process, adding one peripheral at a time until your Mac acts up.  At that point, disconnect the last peripheral you added, reboot your Mac and search the peripheral vendor's website for an updated driver.   If no driver exists or the problem remain after installing the new driver, try a different cable or a different port on your Mac.  If none of the above works, again disconnect all peripherals from your Mac, hold down the "shift" key to start up in "Safe Boot" mode.   If the Mac starts up correctly, restart without pressing the "shift" key.  If your computer still does not start up properly, shut it down and restart it while holding down the Apple+Option-P-R keys; keep holding "all 4 keys" down until you hear the startup sound "twice."  If none of the above work Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up. Select your language. Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar. Select Disk Utility.   Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid. Click Repair Disk. (If Disk Utility cannot repair, you will need a stronger utility (3rd party) - Diskwarrior or Techtool PRO) Restart your computer when done.   Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.  Remove any 3rd party ram.  Reinstall Snow Leopard - This will install a "fresh" copy of Snow Leopard without archiving old system files but leaves the rest of your files in place.   If your computer is still under warranty or you have Apple Care, take full advantage of it by letting tech support deal with your problems.  It's what you're paying them for. Out of warranty - take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • Power Button only works at startup, but non-functional afterwards.

    For a Macbook Pro 15
    A1226 / OS 10.6.8 / 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    (1) When the computer is on, and i press the power button , the shutdown menu used to come on, but does not now.
    (2) When i press & hold the power button, the computer does not force shutdown, even when i hold it down for 30 seconds.
    (3) When I shutdown the computer via the apple menu, i cannot start the computer up using the power button
    (4) However, disconnecting the trackpad ribbon cable from the logic board, then reconnecting, the power button is operational allowing the computer to start back up
(5)When I put the computer to sleep via the apple menu, it goes to sleep, and i can wake it up
    (6) When I restart via the apple menu, it powers down then restarts without any problems
(7)The force quit keyboard short cut will not work most likely in that it uses the power button as a shortcut.
So pursuant, to (4) above, it seems that the power button is non-functional after starting it up, and will only work after connecting/reconnecting the ribbon cable
Bracing myself for no replies or "take it to the genius bar"

    Try resetting the  SMC http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964

  • Zen micro on/off sliding button probl

I have my micro for 2 months and I started to note that the on/off sliding button isn't functioning well... Its hard to turn on and off the micro and sometimes I can't turn it off... I wonder if maybe with or 2 more months of usage it will stop working... Does anyone had this problem? What did you do/what is really the problem in it.. I think its weird bcz i never hv seen nothing about this problem, my headphone jack is working fine since now though ;P

when you say "its hard to turn on" im assuming that u have to use a lot of force to slide the power button. How often do you use it's And do you always have ur player slide thingy in lock postion most of the time? One of my friend's slide is like that, its a bit diffiult to turn on and requires more push to it, as if it were rusty, but its not metal, so its NOT rusty. Mine is just fine, its like i put oil in it and it just slide easily. btw, i recommened u dont put oil in it, im just using it as an example, lol. (oooh...hope im not jinxing anything for my player)

  • Reset vs Power Off

Holding the sleep/wake down will power off the iPhone.
Does turning it on from this power off state reset the phone?
In other words, does this do the same as reset as when the home and sleep/wake buttons are held?

No it doesn't. Holding the sleep/wake button down, and then sliding the red slide does power off the phone, in a sense. Actually what it does is put it into somewhat of a sleep mode, like a computer. The reset can only be performed by holding down the Home and sleep/wake button together through the power off screen and to the Apple logo screen.
    Hope this answers your question.

  • My iPhone went black and the hold the power and home button solution will not work

My iPhone went black and the hold the power and home button solution will not work

    Make sure it's charged.
    Try to Reset your device:
Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears (ignore the Slide to Power Off option that shows up first).
