HT201263 Please help, I'm extremely frustrated.  Have 4th G ipod touch stuck in recovery mode.  Tried connecting to another computer to restore.  Goes through 75 minutes of ipod software update then get a Problem downloading.  Network connection timed out

Please help, I'm extremely frustrated.  ipod is stuck in recovery mode.  Connected to different computer to restore and after 75 minutes of downloading get a message that there was a Problem downloading, network connection timed out.  Cannot get past "connect to itunes" on ipod.

Disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall during the download and update usually resolves that error.

  • 2G Ipod Touch stuck in recovery mode after battery runs out

I recently bought an Ipod Touch and have had the battery run out on me several time now on accident and every time it has gotten stuck in recovery mode giving me error 1604 every time i try to restore it. several times before i have gotten it to restore by seemingly random means but was wondering if there was a single way this can be solved other than making sure my battery never dies.

    Hi Ardent Veritas,
The 1604 error is generally related to USB connection issues. The USB connection issue could be causing the charging issues also.
Make sure the iPod is directly connected to the PC and not plugged into a hub, monitor, or keyboard. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1286 provides general USB connection troubleshooting tips.

  • 3rd Gen Ipod touch stuck in recovery mode....please help!

I just wanted to add some music for a birthday party and this has become a total failure. worked fine yesterday...so i plud it into my laptop and it asks to update itunes, for the sake of being in a hurry i skipped that, and came back and all of a sudden the wierd recovery mode picture was up and the "needs to be restored" message came up. Well, that *****, so im thinking ok...restore it and just start over....no dice. Tried several times at home to restore, and everytime it failed to restore. Updated iTunes, etc....still nothing. Now im at work and i downloaded a fresh new copy of itunes and dont even have an option to restore it. Says i have no network connectivity, so i have 0 options to touch the ipod settings.
I've tried holding the buttons down until the Apple icon comes back up and it just cycles right back into recovery mode.

I was looking for a way to get around that, as it sounds plausible. But i have had iTunes on a previous machine here at the office and it worked fine. Right now, the only option i have in iTunes with it connected is to "eject" the ipod. Not neccesarrily an error # message, but one does come up that says "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. Make sure your network connection is active and try again"
as for restoring at home, it just goes through the motion on the progress bar, but when it reaches around 100% it says "failed to restore. ___" i cant remember the rest as i was up til 2am, and back awake at 6am trying to figure this out...
Last night, there was no battery icon, and the screen stayed illuminated in recovery mode...i updated iTunes, and restarted my laptop at home, and now this morning the screen times out and dims, and there is all of a sudden a battery charging icon in the upper right corner. It would not "power down" at all last night...there was no "power off" slide option after holding the button(s)....this morning it will power off.
It also wouldnt connect to my car radio this morning like it would last night when i came home. The radio doesnt even recognize it anymore.
here is a quick screenshot of what i see...nothing...with it plugged up...

  • IPod Touch stuck in recovery mode. Help!?

My iPod Touch 4th Generation would not update with iTunes. Everything was up to date, so I did a back up and restore, thinking something must be wrong with the iOS. Well, now the iPod is stuck in restore mode. It acts like it wants to restore but it always fails. Help? I have tried many options. I don't need to restore it to the way it was, just to get it working again and I can start from scratch.

Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall.
    - Next try the manual install method of:
iDevice Troubleshooting 101 :: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
    - Then try on another computer
If you get another error message, remember the wording of the error messages. When it says unknown error, usually an error number is also given.

  • HT201263 When my ipod touch is in recovery mode, when i try to restore it, the itunes page says the website has timed out so it won't recover. Can anyone please help me?

When my ipod touch is in recovery mode (when I try to re-store it) the itunes page sayes the website has been timed out and so it won't re-store. There is a limited time, whilst restoring the ipod, it lasts for approx 5 mins, then asks to start again all over again. Can anyone please help me?

This device is not eligible for the requested build (Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194")
Update to the latest version of iTunes. Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) users may need to download iTunes 10.6.3.
Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, followTroubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to performunauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. Uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer.
Edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from your hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart.
Avoid using an older or modified .ipsw file. Try moving the current .ipsw file (see Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations), or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.

  • Trying to update keep getting a message "the ipod software update server could not be contacted Network connection could not be established" using mac OSX. done this with 2 ipod touches??

trying to update 2 ipods but when I go through the process it says "The ipod software update server could not be contacted" "Network connection could not be established". One of the ipods is locked and I don't remember password.

Here's what you can do in case of the forgotten password:
Connect in recovery mode and restore, you'll get the option to rest the passcode during this process:
iOS: Unable to update or restore and iPhone and iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.

    Hello Meysam321,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help with your device. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice for the issue you are experiencing:
Resolve iOS update and restore errors - Apple Support
    Check for hardware issues
    Related errors: 1, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 1000, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.
These errors mean that your device or computer may have a hardware issue that's preventing the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't preventing your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Confirm that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.

  • Frustrated and ready to give up- Stuck on Recovery mode every attempted update

Monday night, I fearfully plugged my phone into my PC after I updated to the new ITunes. (And freshly installed Icloud).
I had hopes of backing up my phone so in case of issues- i would not loose everything.
I say fearfully plugged in because in November- the last Iphone IOS  software update- I plugged my phone in to my computer and it got stuck in Recovery mode. It would not let me Restore. I continued to get error 1604.
So, I switched and plugged my phone into my husbands computer and finally - after about 7 hours - it Restored back to factory.
Now...Monday night, I was optimistic. "Maybe what happened before was a fluke."
    NOPE!
Same thing. Same song. And apples genius tech support for the NWT, is via phone only (Really...really smart. Especially when your only phone is a brick stuck in recovery mode).
I tried everything. Holding home/off button. Uninstalling and reinstalling itunes. Using EVERY different USB port the computer had. Rebooted. Reglogged. Reset the computer to the daybefore .
Now. I am sitting again with no photos. no videos. nothing. And I am fearfull to plug my phone in again to attempt to throw music on to it. (Guess ill be working out to the tunes of music in my head).
    Am I doing something wrong?
Has this happened before to someone: where every single time you plug your phone in to do an update/back it up on itunes...it gets stuck in recovery mode.

    Per http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694#error1604
    Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
If you tried all this and it did not work, but it did work on a different computer, then there is something wrong with your computer. Your computer isn't going to magically fix itself in between iOS version updates.
