HT201263 Seems that downloading iOS8 would take more than 12 hours-

Why more than 12 ours to download ios8?

Was able to download after several tries, by way of iTunes. Apple cd have saved us a lot of aggravation had they taken the pain to thoroughly check their products before releasing them. Been with this company since 1984 and I liked it better when they were the new underdog on the block. They were listening to the rest of us then and we, silly as we were, went evangelizing for "them"... Guess they are too fat now to give a hoot. Used to love A. then, now it's love-hate, how long will it take before it's ony hate?... Maybe they'll be a bit more humble now that it seems Ali Baba has taken away their bragging rights about being the most capitalized co. In the world. Are you listening Apple?

    XDCAM 1080i60 format with Chroma rendering 30 minute episode take more than 17 hours is it usually?

    All depends on the system...
    If by "Chroma rendering" you mean chroma key rendering then it seems quite slow (but I cut on a hopped up
    8X 3.2GHz Mac Pro with a lot of everything, so slow is relative.)
    If you mean something like a Magic Bullet Colorista "treatment", that's another story. I've seen that increase renders by as much as 25X the duration, i.e., a 30 minute show might take 12-15 hours on a slow machine.

  • RMAN archive backup takes more than 1 hour.

    Hello,
    We execute the following command from HP Data Protector 5.50 in order to backup archives from an Oracle 8.1.7 database running in HP-UX 11.00:
    run {
    allocate channel 'dev_0' type 'sbt_tape'
    parms 'ENV=(OB2BARTYPE=Oracle8,OB2APPNAME=inf,OB2BARLIST=Oracle_Archivers_Inf)';
    allocate channel 'dev_1' type 'sbt_tape'
    parms 'ENV=(OB2BARTYPE=Oracle8,OB2APPNAME=inf,OB2BARLIST=Oracle_Archivers_Inf)';
    allocate channel 'dev_2' type 'sbt_tape'
    parms 'ENV=(OB2BARTYPE=Oracle8,OB2APPNAME=inf,OB2BARLIST=Oracle_Archivers_Inf)';
    sql 'alter system switch logfile'
    sql 'alter system archive log current'
    backup
    filesperset 1
    format 'Oracle_Archivers_Inf<inf_%s:%t:%p>.dbf'
    archivelog until time 'SYSDATE-2'
    delete input;
    backup
    filesperset 1
    format 'Oracle_Archivers_Inf<inf_%s:%t:%p>.dbf'
    archivelog all;
    This process takes more than 2 hours for just 3 GB and we don't think this is network issue.
    Is our RMAN command doing more thinks than just archives backup?
    Almost at the end of backup we get following message:
    Default exp binary /INF/oracle/app/product/8.1.7/bin/exp/ is used for catalog export.
    Does this message mean an export is done at the end of archive backup?
    Note that message belongs it is more than 2 hours later.
    Thanks in advance for your help.
    Regards,
    Carles

    Yes, it appears one of your utilities is doing an export backup, check HP Data Protector settings.

    Since a couple of days a restart on my 2008 MacBook Pro 15 inch takes more than 2 hours. Anybody have the same problem?

    It's likely that your boot drive is failing, or that you have some other hardware fault. Back up all data immediately, then run the Apple Hardware Test.

    I face problem with downloading application from apple store.
    It took more than 5 hours to install google maps application and many other application took more than 24 hours.
    It is very worst to see such downloading performace with my new bought iphone5.
    My WIFI connections seems to be very good. As I can able to open many webpages at very high speed.
    I can able to see my many HD videos open and play immediately once I touch.
    Though i cannot able to test the speed, as the www.speedtest.net also not working in my iphone5.
    When i launch speedtest.net app i get the message "Finding closest server" forever and it is never showing the speed details.
    My laptop shows the 10Mbps speed with speedtest.net on the same WIFI network

  • Why did iDVD 6 take more than 14 hours to encode 24 minutes of video?

    Hello,
    This is my first post here and even being a total Mac beginner it surprised me when idvd 06 took more than 14 hours to encode and burn a 24 minute imovie project to dvd. Does anybody know WHY this happened? I bought this machine to do nothing but video editing, but if this is the way it's going to be I will have no choice but to return it to the store and try something else. I have an iMac Core 2 Duo 2.0Ghz 17"/160GB/250GB external/1GB RAM
    I hope somebody can explain what happened, because the capture/edit/create dvd process was a breeze, and I used the "Best Performance" option.
    Thanks
    Luis

    Luis
    Round here we spell 'idiot' as 'inexperienced'
    Encoding/rendering is the same whether you 'save as disk image' or straight to a burn via iDVD, less of course the burn time which comes later. BTW, I use Toast 7 to burn, not disk utility. More options. Burn time, including 'verification' is about 50% of the running time, or a little less.
    The main advantage of saving to a disk image is that you can burn as many copies as you like from it without having to re-encode from scratch. This becomes ultra-important when it is a wedding video that every relative and their dog want a copy of!
    I have a G5 iMac, not as fast as a dual Intel machine, but does what I want. My son has a Macbook Pro (Intel). The main difference is that an iMac can house a much bigger hard disk that a Macbook.
    I can't say for sure, but I simply assume that a desktop Mac is faster than a portable laptop, even if they have the same processor. (200 Level 4 contributors will now pile in to tell me that I must be nuts.) Just my gut feeling. But yes, a Mac Pro will be faster than anything else - one of the reasons they are twice the price (and no monitor).
    If you are going to do video editing for a living then use a Mac Pro with Final Cut Pro. If it is a hobby, an Imac with the biggest hard disk it can take and lots of RAM will easily suffice. The choice of software is yours.
    And while we are it: burn at the slowest speed you can, 2x or 4x, a slow burn gives a better burn! Also, use decent media. I have never had a 'coaster' from Verbatim or Fuji DVD-R, but lots from all other brands I have tried. Others here say Maxell are also very good.
    Most of all: HAVE FUN!

  • Why does printing a pdf take more than one hour?

    Printing a single page from a pdf document (simple text) takes well over one hour. Surely, this can't be normal. Is this a known bug or is something wrong with my setup? Is there a solution/workaround?
    Mac OS X 10.7.3, Canon MP550 printer.

    jmsuijkerbuijk wrote:
    The size of the document is 15.3 MB. I only needed to print one single page from that document, which took me about 70 minutes.
    For the record it is possible to have a large text-based PDF. What can increase the file size is the presence of images in the document. I have a training document I created in Word with lots of screen grabs that is 17MB. After converting it to PDF using Acrobat Pro the resulting PDF is 9.6MB. I also have a Snow Leopard manual - one of the David Pogue missing manuals - that is 15.2MB. So a large PDF file does not automatically mean it is image-based as has been suggested. And even if it was image-based file, which is usually TIFF encoded for b&w and JPEG encoded for colour documents, a single page of that document should not take that long to print.
    With the document open in Acrobat you can select File > Properties and under the Description section you will see what application created the document and under the Advanced section you will see what application was used to create the PDF. This will give you some insight into the type of document you have. But if you did not create this PDF then there is not much you can do anyway.
    If the same single page prints fine using Preview, then there could be a print setting in Acrobat that is causing the long delay. One setting is located in the Advanced print dialog menu. With the print dialog window open, you will see the Advanced button (outlined in red).
    With the Advanced setting window displayed you will see the setting "Print as Image". Having this enabled can dramatically increase the file size of the document to be printed.

  • Permission: "Apply to encolsed items" takes more than 24 hours!

    This is weird. I have a Time Machine back up with more than 650,000 items. For some strange reason the user "Apple", which I created once I went to a Genius Bar, is the only one with "read & write" access to all the back up and items. From that user I can do stuff, but from my user, I can't.
    So, what I did was, I went to the Time Machine disk icon, then clicked in Get Info, added my user to the list of permissions, put my user as read & write, and clicked in "apply to enclosed items", so the permission populates to every single folder and item.
    THIS WAS 29 HOURS AGO, and it's still working... what should I do? There's no way to see a progress bar or percentage, the Time Machine disk is just working FULL (light on and off constantly)
    thanks.

    Don't access or modify Time Machine backups in the Finder. Stop the operation by force-quitting the Finder, then undo it by deleting the permission entry you added. Access your backups only through the Time Machine interface.

  • Large backup takes more than 1 hour - time machine kicks in again!

    I have just watched my Time Machine backup while it's been going.
    It was a large backup and took over 1 hour. However, as time machine backups up "every hour" - the original backup was still going when it then stopped, and started the new backup (as the original backup had been going for 1 hour already).
    The original backup had over 1GB left - yet the new backup only backed up 14MB.
    And, there is no way of telling what happened or what was or was not backed up.
    Anyone got any suggestions?

    It probably finished ok. The amount to be backed-up is an estimate, usually pretty close, but sometimes not.
    and started the new backup (as the original backup had been going for 1 hour already).

    Yes, there are.
    See #A1 in [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum) for a handy widget that will display the backup messages from your logs.
    See #A2 there for a couple of apps that will show exactly what was backed-up each time.

  • Migration Assistant created multiple users.  After receiving my new MacBook Pro and seeing that Migration Assistant would take 40  hrs to transfer my data from my PC, I decided to do it incrementally - now my info is under 3 different users.  Ideas?

    First time Mac User.  Just got my MacBook Pro 2 days ago.  Uppon setup, I founf that Migration Assistant would take more than 40 hours to transfer my data from my PC.  Thinking that I was taking a smart approach, I decided to break the transfer into smaller parts performing them when the PC was not needed.  What I've ended up doing was migrating my data into 3 diferent user's on the Mac.  So now I have an extensive iTunes library and contacts under one user, all of "my documents" under another user, and all of my pictures under a 3rd user.  Anyone know how to get all my data over to one user and then get rid of the other user names?

    Erase the drive, reinstall Mountain Lion, migrate using Setup Assistant.
    Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
    Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
    Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
          left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
            the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
          the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
    Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
                because it is three times faster than wireless.
    To restore wait until the installation is completed and the computer restarts. You should restart to the Setup Assistant where you'll be given an opportunity to restore directly from your Time Machine backup. Be patient since the restore will take so long. If your backup drive can run on FireWire instead of USB then use FireWire instead. It will cut that time down substantially.
