HT201269 Advice on how to transfer EVERYTHING from old iphone to new....

Hi guys,
I've just upgraded from an iPhone 4 16gb to an iPhone 4S 64gb (simply due to space) and I want the new phone to have everything that the old one has on it, including LOADS of music imported from CD's, and ebooks not purchased from iBooks, but copied onto my iPhone from CD's/DVD's that I've bought elsewhere.
I'm figuring that I need to basically make the iTunes on my laptop a duplicate of my iPhone rather than the other way round, but I have no idea how to do this.
I've tried doing a backup of the iphone onto the computer but it conveniently leaves out unpurchased items.
Also, I should say, that some purchased books/songs are not being transfered as the "files are not found".
Any advice would be muchly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. I've been doing this all morning but it still isn't transfering everything.
When I click on the "on this iPhone" tab all my stuff is there. It's just not coming up when I go into the "music" or "books" tabs. I don't want to "sync" the iPhone in case it deletes what I've got on the phone and replaces it with what's currently showing up as being on iTunes (ie, not all my books, and a whole stash of songs that have the "!" beside them because the file cannot be found.... pulling my hair out..... :'(

The easiest way is to back up old phone to icloud and then restore new phone from that old phone backup. Any purchased content such as apps and songs from the itunes and apps stores can be downloaded again.

Connect the old to your computer's iTunes and do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy it over to the Tones part of your computer's iTunes library, and you can then connect your new phone and sync it to it via its Tones tab

Make sure iTunes is loaded on the PC
If all she wants are photos, she has to have the photos on her PC, not just on the old phone. The old iPhone backup doesn't save the actual photos, just the setting pointing to where the photos came from.
If the photos are on her PC, your should be able to sync them to the new iPhone with the Photos tab in iTunes (after the new phone is plugged in).
If the photos aren't on her computer, she can copy them from whatever computer has them (assuming she has access to it).

Welcome to the Apple community.
It would be far simpler if you did it through iTunes, however it can be done otherwise.
You need to add all your old photos to your photo stream, which will then sync them to Photo stream on your new device, you can then move them from your photo stream album to your camera roll.

How to transfer files from old iMac to new iMac without transferring everything.

I just got a new iMac and would like to transfer files from my old iMac. I don't want to transfer everything from the old iMac. I just want the files, iTunes library, iPhoto library, etc. I don't want to transfer applications and settings. I was told in the Apple store that if I transferred my files using system setup then my new computer would look just like my old one. I'd rather start out fresh with the new one and just bring in the files I need. Is there a tool that allows you to customize what you transfer over from old to new? Thanks for your help!!

Carbon Copy Cloner might be the correct tool. It lets you pick and choose what to clone.

connect the Macs with an ethernet cable,
enable file sharing on both Macs,
use "connect to server" (in Go menu) to mount the new Mac's drive on the old Mac.
run CCC.

Basically I've just purchased an iPhone 5. Last July I replaced my iPhone 4 with another one as I broke it, and ever since (stupidly) I hadn't been connecting my iPhone to my computers for back-ups etc, although I have had iCloud activated and running the entire time (to my knowledge).
Now I've just restored my iPhone 5 from a back-up of my iPhone 4 I've just done (a back-up from the computer), yet the only thing that was restored really and transferred onto my new phone was Spotify and my background. What went wrong? I'll admit since I don't use iTunes anymore as I've moved straight to Spotify, I have little idea how to navigate through the latest iTunes, so there could've been a fault on my end, but I don't know.
TL;DR.. How do I get EVERYTHING from my old iPhone 4 to my new iPhone 5? Not just purchased apps, everything. For example, Whatsapp and all the messages/photo's/video's that have been sent within it.

I have had the 3GS for 3 years and now I am finally updating! I am getting the iPhone 5. My question is how do I transfer everything (contacts, apps, pictures, music, texts etc) to the new iPhone 5. I have heard that if my 3GS has software when I pulg the 5 into iTunes the 5 will get the old software. Not sure if that is true or not. Never did this before so I def need help!

I'm really struggling in how to work a way to transfer the music from my iTunes on my old computer to my new computer without wiping all of the music from my iPod... does anyone have any ideas?

There are a few things you could do, from networking the two computers, using an external hard drive or even using your iPod to make the move. Have a look at this User Tip: Migrating iTunes for Windows to a new PC
If you can network the computers there is also this one: Copying songs over a network to use with iTunes for Windows
To use your iPod on two computers without accidentally erasing it, change it to manual update on your old computer before connecting it to the new one. Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have loaded iTunes on your new computer and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync:

Another way to load iTunes on your new PC is to copy the songs directly from the iPod. There is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. As iTunes 7 is just out some of these may not have caught up with it yet though I haven't experienced any problems with the Mac software I use.

Was your old computer a Mac? If not, I believe Microsoft Word for Mac is a separate product than Microsoft Word for Windows, requiring a separate purchase.
If your old computer was a Mac, then you can use Migration Assistant (in your Applications > Utilities folder) to move it.
