HT201269 Putting existing sim into a new iPhone

My iPhone was water damaged and no longer turns on, I don't think I have anything backed up on the device, which I now have no access to. Will I lose any information (contacts etc) simply putting my sim in to a new iPhone?

thanks... so all data is stored on the iphone device itself? is there any way I can access contacts etc now that the phone itself is inaccessable?

  • I put my sim card into a new iphone and tried to change it back to the old one and now the phone is locked. It's asking for a passcode and I didn't have a passcode set up.

Hi! I need help! I put my sim card into a new iphone (3g) and then tried to put it back into the old one to get my contacts from it. Now the old iphone is locked and it's asking for a passcode, but I never set up a passcode on it. Has anyone experienced this or does anyone know what to do? Thanks!

Not sure if this applies to your region, but in Australia the SIM password is often written on the "credit card" sized plastic card that the SIM was provided to you with the phone by the telco. Do you still have this? It could be in the iPhone box?

Yes all of the iPhone 5 family use the nano sim, so as long as you did not switch to a phone locked to another network it will work.  But you do need to go through the activation/setup procedure with tHat sim.

Wow, Karan Taneja, you've just embarrassed yourself on a worldwide support forum.  Not only is your post ridiculous and completely inappropriate for a technical support forum, but it also shows your ignorance as to whom you think the audience is.  Apple is not here.  It's users, like you.
If you would have spent half the time actually reading the Terms of Use of this forum that YOU agreed to by signing up to post, as you did composing that usesless, inappropriate post, you (and the rest of us on this forum) would have been much better off.

  • I want to put my sim card from my iPhone 4 into a family members iPhone 4s. We have both backed up our phones to our computers.  I don't want his contacts listed on the phone while I use it, just mine.  How do I remove them off the iPhone 4s.

I want to put my sim card from my iPhone 4 into my husbands iPhone 4s, which he is not using.  We have both backed up our phones on to our own computers.  I don't want his contacts left on the phone while I use it.  How do I remove his info including music, photos etc from the iPhone 4s before I insert my own sim card.

You do realize that the SIM only contains account information for your wireless account.
Moving the SIM from phone to phone does not cause any of your iTunes content, contacts, email, etc to magically appear on the device.

  • I inserted my SIM card into my new iPhone but none of my contacts appear :(

I inserted my SIM card into my new iPhone but none of my contacts appear on the phone. Do we have a solution?

The iPhone does not support importing or transferring contacts stored on a SIM card to the iPhone's address book nor storing contacts on the SIM card activated with AT&T. It is recommended to use the new SIM card included and pre-installed with the iPhone for the AT&T activation.
Are these contacts not available in the Address Book application if you have a Mac or in the Outlook address book if you have a Windows PC and use Outlook as your email client?
If not, you can take this SIM card to an AT&T store and for a small fee or maybe you can talk the store into doing this for free, they will extract the contacts from the SIM card into a format you can use to import the contacts into the Address Book on a Mac or into the Outlook address book on a Windows PC.

  • Not sure how to transfer/save ALL data from old SIM card to new iPhone

    1) How can I save/keep/transfer all Messages and Notes when I put my SIM card into a new iPhone?
I have done that but only some of the Messages and Notes are there on new phone.
    2)  Also/or:  are all Messages and Notes saved on my Mac whenever I Sync / Update it?
And if so, WHERE on my computer do I find them?
    *  The Apple site says to be sure to Sync phone "to keep all data" (of course) but I want to make sure that includes        ALL Notes and Messages and know where to find them on my computer to truly save and access them.
    *  I have a 4S and the newer 4S with Siri.  I am going to give the 4S to a daughter and keep the 4S with Siri.
    3) Will the Genius Bar people help me with this if I can't myself, or do I need to go to AT&T (gag)?
I need simplest of explanations and steps to follow, please!
    Many thank yous,

Okay -- thanks to you, too!  I've only been using an iPHone since the 3G and had no idea.  Learn something new every day.  I totally  thought it stored the person's personal data so it could go from phone to phone.  Good to know--thanks!
So it must store phone basic stuff, I guess.  I'll have to look into that.
I gave you a link that explains how to get info from one iphone to another.

  • Where can I buy a nano sim for the new iPhone 5

    Hi all,
I have just ordered a new iPhone 5 from the apple website and it comes as an unlocked phone. Therefore I need to buy a new 'nano sim' to fit the new phone.
Does anyone know where and how I go about doing this?
I've seen that vodaphone have apparently got 500,000 of these new Nano sims in stock, but are they only for people who have bought the phone through them?
Do you know any other networks or providers that are selling the nano sim, even if you haven't purchased the phone from them?
Any advice or tips would be much appreiciated.
    Many thanks
    Chris

Which is why in the UK it is not really worth purchasing an iPhone directly from Apple - it's a no brainer.  You should always purchase through the phone companies themselves and you'll get a much better deal always.
I have been with 02 on a contract since I had my first iPhone and have always upgraded for less than half the cost of the iPhone directly from Apple.
I really don't understand why someone would want to spend at least £525 to £600 on a phone from Apple when you could get it for less than half the cost with the UK phone companies, unless of course money is no object!
Where do you get your information from?

  • I have an ipad mini and would like to put a sim into it is it possible

Please help can I put a sim into my ipad mini

If you have a WiFi-only iPad, there is no cell circuitry included so there will be no place to insert a SIM. If you have a WiFi+Cellular iPad, the instructions for inserting a SIM can be found in the user's guide:
    http://support.apple.com/manuals/ipad/
It's on page 11 in the US version of the guide.

  • TS4036 I have been restoring the backup into a new iphone for a week. My pictures do not get restored however. Is there anything I can do?

I have been restoring the backup into a new iphone for a week. My pictures do not get restored however. Is there anything I can do?

Not unless the phone was backed up to the icloud or in iTunes at some point. I know you said it's crushed but can it be connected to a computer? If so you can still back it up in iTunes and then when the new phone comes use iTunes to restore that back up on it.

  • Will my information be stored into my new iPhone?

Ok, so I'm getting a replacement iPhone 4S tmr because my current one is water damaged. I back up my iPhone to iTunes, not iCloud or anything of that sort. What I was wondering was will my old info, like contacts, texts, calendars, etc. be stored into my new iPhone when I connect it to my laptop? Please let me know, thanks!

if your backup was good, all of this information will be restored to your new phone

under 'itunes will backup the following information'
you will need to sync over your music from your computer to your phone

  • Can I put the SIM of an old iPhone into a new iPhone, no problems?

OK so my old iPhone was stolen, but the thief threw away the SIM (found it near the trash).
Instead of buying a new one at the non-contract price of $700, I opened a second line on my account and bought a new iPhone.
Can I take my old SIM and put it in my new one so I can keep my same number??????

This is the second time you've asked the same question. The answer is still the same, no matter how many times you ask. Yes, you can put the old sim in your phone & your phone will work ONLY IF THE ACCOUNT ASSOCIATED WITH THAT SIM IS ACTIVE. If you canceled the account, it won't work. If you're trying to use the old sim and only maintain the second account, that won't work.
I.E. You need to maintain BOTH accounts to do what you want.

  • Why is it so hard to put music on my brand new iphone 4s?

I purposely bought the 64GB version of the new iPhone 4s so that I could also use it as an iPod. First off-I can't edit any of the music's information or cover art once it's in the phone. Half of the albums that I synched just speed through song after song without making a sound. The other half won't even go to the song when you touch the title.
My biggest beef? In quite a few albums, I can't put most of the files on it. It just won't do it. For example, I dragged a Mariah album to my iPhone. It synched up 4 songs out of 12. No matter what I do, it just refuses to take certain songs, and in most cases-entire albums.
I tried to put a Britney album on there, and it just point blank refused to play the right song. It would play Toxic for the title of Breathe On Me. It doesn't do this on iTunes. Just on the iPhone. I finally got it to sound right once I dragged each...song..over..and..over...and..over...
I spent the last DAY-that's right, DAY-trying to get all the correct artwork and titles and songs, and I've only finished up to the C's.
Please help me. I can't afford to waste this type of money for a subpar product. I've never had this type of problems with my iPod.

I've found that once the music files are transfered from iTunes music library to the device, you lose a greater ability to edit the properties or add artwork to the mp3s if you then try to then.  It's hit or miss and I think it has to do with how the music with what software was used to encode the music files and what format they are in.
From these experiences, I've made it a habit of doing all the tag/properties edits and artwork adds in iTunes music library first, then move them over to the phone as the final copies.
