If your phone is factory unlocked, or officially unlocked by your carrier, updating will NOT re-lock the phone. If it was unlocke by unauthorized methods, any update or restore will re-lock it.

When I tried to sync my 4G iphone factory unlocked to iTunes I got this message "An update to the carrier settings for your iPhone is available. Would you like to download it now?" Should I hit "Download and Update"? or "Learn More" ?
I have a factory unlocked iPhone 3GS (eg: purchased from Apple). I received the same message at some point and eventually (after reading a bit more) accepted "Download and Update". No problem. No apparent bad effects. It just seems to update things specific to the carrier (Bell Mobility in my case).

iTunes keeps popping up a dialog box that says "An update to the carrier settings for your iPhone is available. Would you like to download it?" What is this? When I click on the "Learn More" button in the dialog box it takes me to a generic iTunes support page that has no relevance to carrier settings.
I got this three times within the last 4 hours and have been getting it almost every day since I use my new iPhone 6 - over a week now. This happens almost every time I connect the phone to my MacBook Pro, although every time I confirm and it indicates successful update.
It is highly unlikely that my carrier updates settings on daily basis or three times a day. It is almost surely a bug in the Apple system and anything but a timely and effective solution is unacceptable.
For debugging information, I recovered a backup from my former iPhone 5 onto the new one, using the same carrier and SIM. -
I cannot open iTunes. I get a message that says "The file iTunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. Would you like to download iTunes now?"
I downloaded it and it and I continue to get the same message.
How do I fix this? Thanks, DeeUpgrade iTunes to the latest version. It should be 10.5.3.

I receive the message:
The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. Would you like to download iTunes now?
I've ALREADY downloaded AND installed the new iTunes.
ITunes WILL NOT launch.Hello, hillbent.
Thank you for the question. If you have verified that iTunes 11.1 is installed, you will need to rebuild your iTunes library file. Below, I have included the article that walks you through this process. Start with the section labeled Re-creating the iTunes Library file.

Upgraded to 11.3.1 now can't open library. Won't read. I have an older iMac (2008). Message I get is: cannot be read because was created by newer version of iTunes. Would you like to download iTunes now?' ... so I do and it fixes nothing. Same message again. OS is 10.6.8.
Thanks again. The option thing got me further than I've gotten thus far but when I went to choose a library I got that same message.
I do have options. I have 2 iMacs. I can still access my music through 'sharing' and download it onto my newer iMac. Trouble is it doesn't have a CD port and I like to burn. From what I've read about their new Mac portable CD/DVD drive, it's shaky at best. Incidentally, do you know of any drives that work well with Macs and cost less than $89.00?
I've figured out I can download a previous library from my old Mac then upload it from the new one which should put me back in business, but what do I do with the corrupt one that's there now, just trash it? Also, when I do the option key my other choice is Create A New Library. Should I do that and put the good previous library into it?
Thanks a million, I really appreciate your time. I'm an old fogey and computers often mystify me, especially when they lock me out of things for no apparent reason. -
What does this mean on iTunes "An update to the carrier settings for our iPhone is available. Would you like to download it now?" Should I allow it?
It means that an update to your carrier settings is available!
Yes, you should allow it. -
When restoring and updating my iPhone I am getting the following message " iTunes could not update to the carrier settings for your iPhone.an unknown error occurred (1630).can anyone please with a knowledge tell me what I should do please. Thank you
The search bar can be very valuable...........
In using it, I found out other's have had this issue and it likely means you have a 3G iPad? If you do, go into settings and turn off cellular data, then try to update again and you should be OK........ -
I know how to get my old library back - but I want this to stop coming up time and time again. My Mac won't allow me to down load the lastes iTunes software. What do I do?
this just started w/ me yesterday. I was running 10.5.3, and nothing changed - the message just appeard out of nowhere. I update to the latest iTunes 10.6 but the message is the same.
Sounds like probably some sort of Library file corruption.
The two options available in the message box are "Download" and "Quit". Download is useless because I'm already running the latest. Quit is pretty useless.
I was going to just create a new Library and re-import all my music. Of course, all my iPhone sync settings are going go have to be recreated. -
Hi. I've just migrated 750GB worth of data from an old MacBook unto iMac but now itunes won't open and i've downloaded the latest itunes with no effect on the error message received. Please help.
Hey,
Thanks for your response. I've checked in the about itunes and it says the MacBook's itunes details are as follows
11.05.5 (5)
64 bit
copyright 2000-2013
I imagine the iMac has the lates itunes on it although I cannot check because it brings up the error message as described above. Any help will be appreciated.

I recently upgraded to OS 10.7.4 - I'm guessing this is the problem??? What can I do?
No, you should not lose any music. Still, some have complained that installing a new iTunes caused them to lose their music. I strongly suspect they did something else wrong. I always back up before I do any major changes to my computer. If something happens that I don't like I can just restore.

I keep getting a pop up window labled Software Update saying, "To open 'MLBNexDefAutobahn,' you need a Java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to install one now?" I click on "Not Now" and it pops open again a second later. It is not going away! Is this a Java virus? I just installed Maverick Wednesday and got a message yesterday on google that "Google would like to take over this computer"??? Please help.
Thanks! This is not a virus, or any other kind of malware. Some third-party software that you have installed is repeatedly trying to open a Java process called MLBNexDefAutobahn. What that software might be, I don't know. What software do you have that this name might fit with?

Itunes - disable, would you like to download this now
Each time I download from itunes the dialog box keeps asking me the same question ."would you like to download this now" How do I disable this permanently?
I'm not sure this will work, but I think it's worth a try:
In iTunes' menu, go to Store > View Account. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
Scroll down to "Reset all warnings for buying and downloading" and click the "Reset" button. Maybe that will help?
