HT201270 How about specifics as to what my carrier is doing to my iPad?

I'm sorry, I just don't trust AT&T or Verizon or any other carrier. If they are updating my settings, I want information as to what they are doing to my device.

  • Is there a way I can use my teacher iPad to see what the children are doing on their iPad

Our school is contemplating on using iPad's for education, but are concerned about some safety issues. As far as I'm aware I know iOS 7 allows a lot of native restrictions. However is there a way that I as a teacher can remotely see what a child is doing on their iPad and do this for multiple iPad's?
Thank you in advance for your help

    Hi Haroon1234,
Unfortunately no. The closest thing I've found is an app linked to the MDM where teachers can view what app is active on each of their classroom iPads (i.e. they can't see the screen itself, but can see that Edmodo is the active app on one device, Notability is the active app on another device, etc)

  • What SIM card capacity does the new iPad require (64K or 128K)?

I brought a new iPad (4G+wifi) to my parents to replace their old laptop, I am trying to get them a micro-sim. Since they are not in Australia, I am not quite sure which capacity of sim card does the new iPad require (my one working pretty good with Optus). 64K is the most comment one in their country, therefore I am not sure which one should I purchase. If would be really greatful if anyone has an answer for that! Thanks in advance

The iPad comes with 16, 32, or 64 GB of storage. Perhaps that is what you are referring to. The sim card has no storage so amount of "K" is meaningless. Sim cards have the single purpose of connecting to your provider's network.
Perhaps you are referring to phone sim cards that can store contact numbers. I think these have 64K or 128K storage capacity on the sim card.

  • How do I find out what's using up space on my iPad?

Hi, I have a 16GB iPad and when I go to Settings>General>Usage it says that I have used 13.2GB. However, when I add up the apps it lists below that they only add up to 300MB. I'm confused as to what's happened to the rest of my space? I have 6 (small) apps, I get my emails through my iPad, I have a one hour video I took and about 20 photos. Other than that there's nothing on the iPad (that I know of!). It's a bit of a problem as I want to download the 4OD app but it won't let me do that until I download the new ioS7 software but I can't do that as it says I need 4.1gb available storage which I don't have! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi applegirl5!
I have an article for you here that can help you understand the storage capacity reporting on your iOS device:
iPhone, iPad, and iPod: Understanding capacity
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1867
This will help you identify what on your iPad is taking up space so that you can address the larger files in your iPad. You may also want to think about importing your pictures and videos to your computer and deleting them off of your iPad:

  • HT5654 How do I find out what version of iTunes is on my iPad mini?

I'm trying to connect an iPad mini to my iMac and get a message indicating that the IPad mini cannot be used because it requires  iTunes version 10.7 or later. However, the iPad mini is only 2 months old so I would have thought it would have the latest version installed.  When I tried to check which version of iTunes was installed, I couldn't see it anywhere.

Thanks stedman1! The message that was displayed is confusing as it makes it sound like its the iPad mini's version. However, I can see that I have 10.6.3 on my iMac so will update this one.  Thanks again!

  • What kind of usb does the new iPad use?

Wondering if they bumped it up to USB2 or not.
    Thanks

Wow, never would I have expected such a quick reply. Thanks, people. But maybe I should be a bit more clear about what I'm asking and why.
I'm a musician who is involved in recording, making music, and sometimes field recording. I have a first generation iPad. The 30-pin dock, if I understand correctly, supports a USB protocol, USB1, but not USB2. USB 1 is not fast enough to support stereo recording at high bit rates (ie 24bit/44.1 khz). I was wondering if they bumped the spec up to the USB 2 protocol, whoch would allow manufacturers to design recording interfaces to handle the higher bit rates.
    Thanks

Was the iPad originally set up on a different computer, and hasn't been synced to the one that you are now trying to use ? There are some instructions on this page for syncing to a new computer : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141
(Before trying that you could copy any important files/documents off the iPad so that you have you own backup copy of them e.g. depending upon what the apps support then email them to yourself, use Dropbox, copy them to your computer via your wifi-network.)
You should be able to copy iTunes purchases off the iPad and over to that computer's iTunes via File > Devices  Transfer Purchases, but if you have music from other sources (e.g. copied from CDs) which aren't in that computer's iTunes (and you haven't got a backup to copy them onto it from) then there are some programs listed half-way down this page which should be able to copy them back : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
For recovery mode, that will result in your iPad being put back to factory defaults i.e. all of your content will be removed from it

  • I have question about hooking up an external hdd to a time capsule and still have my printer hooked up as well. Anyone got any tips for me, how to do it and what brand of harddrive that will work best for me 1 or 2 TB

i have question about hooking up an external hdd to a time capsule and still have my printer hooked up as well. Anyone got any tips for me, how to do it and what brand of harddrive that will work best for me 1 or 2 TB

You just need a powered hub.. if you already use one then fine.
Plug in just about any external hard disk will work fine. Format has to be readable by the TC.. ie fat32.. or much better HFS+.. plug it into a Mac to prepare the drive.
Pick whatever size suits.. nowadays 2TB are most economical.
WD, Seagate have goobled up all the minor players.. so pick one.
Whatever suits your budget and asthetics.
NOTE.. The USB on the TC is fine for printers.. IMHO it is the wrong way to go with USB disks.. use the internal disk of the TC.. USB is less than half the native speed plugged into a Mac.. TC to USB is slow.. far slower than internal drive.. or using external drive as external.

  • I have a new 16g nano and I have only added about 600 songs and I only have less than a gig left of space.  It says I have used over 9G of other.  I have no movies, pictures, tv shows or anything else on it.  How do I find out what the "other" is?

I have a new 16g nano.  I have only added about 600 songs so far.  It is telling me that I 4.47G of songs and 9.92G of other and only 3.297MB of space left.  I have no tvshows, no movies, no pictures on the Ipod.  How do I find out what the "other" is and get rid of it?

You most likely have some corrupted files in other. Restore it and resync.

What kind of use do you make of your MBP?  A lot of photo or video?  If so, you may be storing a lot of large files.  Look at Finder and see what the file system looks like.  Do you have large libraries of data files associated with applications?
You may want to think about an external hard drive to use for backups and data storage, you can point applications to the external drive as the default storage location.
A good source of external drives at a reasonable price is the Mac specialist, OWC, http://www.macsales.com
I bought their Mercury Elite Pro 2 TB dirve last September and set it up to use part for Time Machine backup and part for other work space.  Setup with Disk utility into two partitions is very quick and easy.  Just remember to format as Extended Journaled with GUID partition table.  Setting the partition sizes is by using a braphical image on screen in DU so it is like falling off a log, so easy.

  • My pic 3 has suddenly started draining the battery in only a few hours even when I am not using it. Might this mean something is running all the time? I recently downloaded Dropbox. How do I check? What do I do about it? Or is battery faulty? Tim

My ipad 3 has suddenly started draining battery in only a few hours. Even if not in use. Might this be because a programme is running in he background? I recently downloaded Dropbox. Might my photos still be downloading after a few days? How do I check? What do I do about it? Or might my battery be faulty? Thanks, Tim.

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon.  The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight.  Admittedly the labeling is hard to read but, if you use a magnifier and squint your eyes, you'll see "Output 5.1V, 2.1A."  The symbol between volts and amps is the symbol for DC.  Do NOT use an iPhone charger.  Do NOT use an iPod charger.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the exact procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know whether or not a battery problem exists.
    According to Apple:
    Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

Are there apps you don't need or use? Delete them.
Is there content you've downloaded from iTunes that you can delete (as long as it's available in iTUnes, you can redownload any previously purchased content)
Do you have any large e-mails in your mailbox? Such as mails with photos.
Do you have photos that you don't want or need anymore?
Settings, general, usage can tell you how much space apps are taking up and that can help you choose what needs to go, what's part of the problem, etc.
