HT201272 Can I get a refund? Downloaded MOUNTAIN LION (tho preinstalled) to make bootable USB Startup drive

Making a bootable start-up USB stick, I have been charged for downloading the necessary Install file for Mountain Lion even though the App store knew it was already on my new MacBook Pro. Can I get a refund?
I have already paid for Mountain Lion when I bought the laptop, and online discussions that I read all said we don't have to pay again and can download by pressing Option key. ( I know I can use Restore or Internet Restore, but if the disk became really screwed up in the future I would like to have  a failsafe way of restarting from a USB pen drive, which means the necessary Install file needs to be downloaded in order to have a bootable USB. It does not remain on the laptop once Mountain Lion is activated.) Why does Apple not allow us to do this the easy way? I have since found reference to someone mentioning on Apple Support that he got a refund, but he does not say HOW!
There was a link in the Invoice Email for reporting a problem with the payment, but I don't want an automated Apple to think there's been an illegal use of my account and then freeze my account, and so have not persued this link.
Does anyone have any ideas about this?

I started typing it out but this is easier.

If you are trying to reinstall Lion, you need to use Lion Recovery

For that issue, quit the App Store if it's open.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar top of your screen click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
    Click Go
Move the NetworkInterfaces.plist file from the SystemConfiguration folder to the Trash.
Relaunch the App Store and try downloading MLion.
*****   Your post is rather confusing. There's a difference between reinstalling Lion and downloading Mountain Lion.

  • How can I get a copy of mountain lion for my mac book pro on which I already have mountain lion 10.8.2 installed

I have a MacBookPro which came installed with Mountain  Lion10.8.2.
My Mac Book pro does not boot, not even in safe mode. It boots in Recovery Mode, and I tried to reinstall it and it says downloading and it shows that it will take 258 hours. I cannot wait 258 hours, is there any other way
    2. My brother got me this Mac between December 2012 - January 2013 from Australia, I live in  India, How do I find out if I am in warranty. Can I call any number. I have an Apple ID with me which I just created and I have the serial number with me but I do not know the exact date of purchase.
Where can I download or purchase a copy of Mountain Lion? is there any other site other than Apple?
How good is Maverick, Can I upgrade from Mountain Lion 10.8.2 to Mavericks. The local service center did not bother to verify the warranty and told me to pay 2000 rupees. I thought the warranty to be worldwide, apparently not, any suggestions.
If I have no warranty I would still want a DVD of Mountain Lion since I can do the install myself and do not need to pay 2000 for installation. There is no data to backup. I would really appreciate any help here.
    Regards

You can go to the Apple online store and purcahse a copy of Mountain Lion.  This will give you a redemption code, which you can use to download Mountain Lion from the App Store.  Unfortuantely, I'm not aware of any other way to legally purchase it.  I have never seen Apple release Muontain Lion on DVD.
In terms of Apple Service, they just need the serial number of the machine to check the purcahse date.  It is usually correct, to within a few weeks.  A quick Google search should give you the correct number to dial.
    I hope this helps.

  • I was gifted a MacBook with no OS X. How can I get a copy of Mountain Lion?

My friend upgraded to a new MacBook and when he wiped his old one he gave it to me. Now it's waiting for me to load an OS X. I don't currently have one, so I was going to wait until Mountain lion came out, but now everything I read see seems to say you can only download it and only if you already have lion. Please help!

The friend who gave you the MacBook should have installed the original OS that came with the system and given you the install DVD's.
If he didn't you could do as Kappy wrote but the legality of that is suspect. The reason being you are suppose to have an Snow Leopard on a pre Lion system before upgrading to Lion.
You can also contact Apple and get the original OS DVD's that came with the system. Call Apple at1-800-SOS-APPL in the United States.

  • How can I get my mail (on Mountain Lion) not to store filed emails that are already stored on the server

I am having issues with my Mail.  I am trying to find out how to keep my computer from storing mail that I have put into the servers folders.  Many of my messages have large attachments, and to me, it seems to be eating up ALOT of space on my computer.  I have ten folders that strore up to 2 gigs of old data each.  I am afraid if i delet them from the mail( on my mac ) it will delete it in on my server. (Yahoo)  I have looked quite a few places, to no avail.
    Thanks for any suggestions

Yes, deleting messages with your Mac from IMAP folders will delete them from the IMAP server. That's how IMAP is supposed to work.
While not exactly what you requested, you might consider setting the account in question to cache messages but omit attachments. That's in the Advanced tab of Accounts inside Mail Preferences. You can even set it to "Don't keep copies of any messages," but then you can't read any message when not connected to the network.
You cannot set that option folder by folder, but you can set it account by account.

  • If I download Mountain Lion on my MBP , can I use the same installer file on a different computer and continue the installation without Internet connectivity?

    Hi Folks,
I have just downloaded Mountain lion on my  Macbook Pro(haven't installed it yet) . My question is, can I copy the same downloaded Mountain Lion from the Applications on to an external hard drive and use the same on a different computer? I am having problems with internet connectivity right now, it would be amazing if it can be installed on the iMac without internet connection.
    So is that doable?
    Thanks in advance

And the 2nd installation would not require internet connectivity? Except , of course during the set up and the configuration of iCloud and location based services, which I can skip at the time

  • Mail quits on startup, not on a guest account. This only happened after downloading Mountain Lion. What do I do to fix this?

A couple of days after downloading Mountain Lion (10.8.3) Mail quits on startup. This doesn't happen on a quest account. I understand I'm not the only one with this problem (understatement). Has anybody found a solution yet??

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

On your profile, you say that you are using Mountain Lion. Is that correct? If you are using Mountain Lion, you don't have to download the Mountain Lion installer again.
Also, that error is usually caused by problems with your Internet connection or your hard disk, so first, open Disk Utility, select Macintosh HD in the sidebar and verify the disk. If it's OK, you have problems with your Internet connection, so contact with your ISP

  • HT1338 I just installed OSX snow leapord and just want to be able to use icloud.  I up--graded my old macbook to 2 gigs and still can't get it to download icloud .  would go to osx mountain lion but can't do that either.  What do I have to do???

I want to use icloud to sync w/my new apple tv.  bought osx snow leopard and installed it plus upgraded to 2 gigs memory for my
old (2007) macbook.  still won't work. I need to get to at least osx 10.7.4 or to osx mountain lion.  Tried everything and can't get there.
I'm not a computer whiz...quite a novice.  so, if you can help; please speak in layman language....ha   Thanks

    iCloud requires 10.7.2 or later.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • After purchasing a song on the iTunes store, the song did not download entirely. How can I get a refund or download it again without rep[urchasing it?

After purchasing a song in the iTunes store, the song was downloaded, but when I went to play it, it was not completely recorded. How can I get a refund or download it again without being charged again on my account?

    Hi Dan,
If the song does not appear in your Purchased folder, then you can go back to the Store, select the song again, go select "Buy", and press Enter. iTunes knows you already purchased it, so it won't charge you again. It will, in fact, tell you that you have already purchased this item, and will ask you if you want to download it again for free....
Just in case it is not to be found in the Purchased folder!
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers,
