HT201272 How to restore IPOD apps after updating to OS 4.2?

Hi,
Everything on my 2nd gen Ipod touch was working fine,  Then while at Itunes, I was prompted to update to OS 4.2 and like a damned fool I did.  After that most of my apps did not ge loaded despite trying several times.  I then restored the OS to version 4.1.xx (something), and now I cannot restore any of the apps!  How can I get the OS to restore from my pre-4.2 os backup??
thanks

  • Cannot restore music/apps after Update to phone

Hi. Really hope someone can help here. Don't think I have a severe problem, at least hope not. Nutshell:
-Started Update about 3 hours ago.
-After update, got error message stating problem, needed to restore to back-up.
-Thankfully I had backed up the device just prior to update, and just checked, I still have all of my data on HD
-When trying to restore, I kept getting error message, asking me to repeat the process, and phone is completely bricked at this point
-Saw message stating this is frequently caused by anti-virus/firewall, so disabled AV/Firewall, restore again, successfully
-Phone no longer a brick, but ALL data is gone, like a brand new phone, not a good thing
-I can see all of my apps/music in my itunes library, as well as my hard drive, but can not find a way to get the data back to my iphone.
-Tried syncing (haven't tried restoring yet, wanted to do a little research first) no success, no drag and drop, etc... very stupid imo, how can you not be able to drag and drop?! anyway...
So, need help getting my data back to my phone, music and apps.
Again, your help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hi all. Just in case you end up searching this thread, the answer was so stupid and should have been obvious... man, Apple is really screwing things up that should be easy. Anyway, here is the dumb answer, and yep, maybe it is me who is dumb, but we all miss the obvious, (who hasn't last keys lately???) it should have been a super easy fix.
Ok, I never had an issue with syncing prior to this, default settings worked fine, and I am not someone who uses iTunes for anything other than this required use for updates and back-ups. So, I had/have very little interaction and knowledge of iTunes.
When looking at the GUI, clicking on your iphone or other device, you immediately see the summary page. I never noticed the tabs on the inner frame of the window, with the info/apps/music/etc subtabs. I always browsed my libraries by the main tabs on the left side.
Then, after all of this crud yesterday, I did find them. After the update, for some reason, they were all unchecked, all music, apps, frikking so stupid!! When you go into the page, you have to re-check the box to sync, something I had never had to do before. Then, as with most preference set-ups, I cycled through the pages, checked the boxes, tried to sync after, and it still didn't work...
Well, the genius coders here decided that the only way to make these changes 'sticky' was to click 'apply' on EACH SEPARATE TAB!!! You have to do each 1 by itself: music sync check then APPLY, apps sync check then APPLY, you get it..
Again, thanks SO MUCH Apple for another update with Unacceptable major flaws, so simple I was always looking tons deeper. Steve Jobs, Get your team back on point, this is getting to be a major mess..
    Hope this helps others.

  • How to restore missing apps after a itunes sync?

    Have iPhone 4   iOS 4.2.8
To install an app (Skype), my phone recommended I do it thru iTunes 10.5.2 (via usb tether)
Checked the sync box, selected the Skype app after I downloaded it in iTunes.
The sync process went thru a bunch of 'finding, removing, backing up' of my installed APPs.
When it was done, all my installed APPs were gone from my iPhone.
Tried doing the 'Restore' function, I believe.
That went thru some dialogs, but still no APPs were restored to my iPhone.
Some blogs say to use the 'Purchased' icon in the APP STORE app on the iPhone; there is no 'Purchased' icon. (there used to be, but not now)
Prior to Sycing I had more than 15 updates to install. I no longer have any updates, as the apps are gone I suppose.
Is there a back up of my iPhone APPS on my computer? The dialogs that were running and identifying the APPs that I have instaleld leads me to believe that iTunes was making a backup ,and that everything was fine.
    Where are my APPs?
    Thanks!

When, if ever, was the last time you synced your phone with that computer? It sounds to me like you either set up a new sync relationship with a computer other than the one you normally sync to, or you set up a sync relationship for the first time since you got your phone. In either case, you apparently did not read the warning dialogs that popped up telling you that your phone would be erased and the contents would be replaced with what was in iTunes on the computer.
You're going to have to re-download the apps that you're missing now. It's easiest to do this from the computer (especially now that you have a sync relationship established).
On the phone, open the app store. Click on updates. Click on purchased. Select "Not on This iPhone" and donwload the ones you want.

  • How to Restore iTunes Library after update?

Updated iMac to iTunes 11.0.5 and lost almost entire library of music (all but 3 songs). Tried to open iTunes with previous library but music I downloaded from CD's cannot be "located". Don't know how to find them. Tried to restore from back up external drive library, but those files are "locked" or I don't have permission. Purchased songs, with some exceptions, will play. Some don't though.
My library was from an much older version of iTunes (2008 or 09), could that be an issue? I don't use this desktop much at all, but would like to have the library be functional.
    1.  How can I restore my library getting all songs to play?
    2.  Should I update iTunes on my Macbook? It's using 11.0.4 now. I don't want to mess up it's library as that's the one I use.

  • How do you keep your ipod apps after updating to the 4.0 upgrade?

I first backed up my iPod touch to keep all of my apps. Then I updated it to 4.0, when I got finished it didn't have any of my apps except the original ones from the iTouch. So I went to click restore from back up and it said that the 4.0 update would go away if I restored from backup. So how do I keep my apps and the update? I have bought some of the apps and do not think it would be fair to re buy them.

No, a backup won't do anything, you need to check your sync settings and then re-sync.
1- Connect your Touch to iTunes
2- Verify that your App sync preferences are set correctly
3- Verify that all your other sync preferences (Music, Video, Podcast) are set correctly
4- Click Apply if you made any changes, or click Sync to initiate a sync w/o any changes.
Assuming the missing Apps are in your iTunes, they should be added to your Touch after you re-sync.

  • Restoring ipod mini after updating

i downloaded the ipod updater last night and the computer did not give me the option to retore, only to update. so it went through the process, but i really want to restore it to the original settings and can't figure out how to do it after it's already been updated with the latest software.
i tried to re-install the software, but the ipod didn't respond.
also, i am connected by USB and running OS X 10.2.8. the information online says i should be connected to the dock? and be running a newer version of OS X? is this the problem? is there a way to get around it. i don't have a dock for the mini.
    thank you.

  • TS1702 how to restore all application after update ios7

i made update to ios 7.0.4 & i didn't find the old application that was stored at my iphone

    iTunes Restore Purchases
This works good. When you find that apps don’t appear even in iTunes or if the sync doesn’t really put all apps into the iPhone, you might want to head over to the “Purchases” section (under Quick Links) in iTunes store. You’ll find the apps you’ve already downloaded via the App Store here.
Download the apps and you can then sync them to the iPhone. This way, the apps will be back on the iPhone.
    Manual Mode
Perhaps, if nothing works, you’ll have to individually download all the apps. I know this is bad but this option works like a charm although it’s tedious and no fun. To ease things, however, Apple does show you the apps that you’ve already installed.
    Go to the App Store
    Now tap on Updates
    Tap on Purchased
Tap on “Not on this iPhone“
Install the apps that you want.
Arguably, this is a lengthy process but this definitely ensures that all your apps are back.
And oh, do note that if the app isn’t compatible with the firmware you just updated, you might not see the app getting downloaded or if it does get downloaded, you might run into trouble using the app.

  • Cannot restore iPod shuffle after update

I have an iPod shuffle original model. For the past few years it has played music as background to my space. Today it went silent.
I plugged into my Powerbook and iTunes offered to update it which is probably the basis of the following problem.
Try and try but that same file from the iTunes library will no longer go into the iPod. I tested with a second one and got the same.
What is the problem? This is my own recording imported via Quicktime and plays on my photo iPod which I'm using instead; but it will not even copy to the iPod shuffle. But it was there for years!
    This is galling.

I had this error as well. I re-installed the updater to get it working again.

  • How to restore Music Library after update to iTunes 11?

    Hi guys.
Since updating to iTunes 11, my Music Library isn't what it should be. I've noticed that some songs have moved from their albums to completely new ones, and others songs have gone missing entirely.
When I look in the actual Music Library folder, the songs and albums in question aren't organised anything like they are in iTunes, which makes tracking the missing songs down problematic.
I'm in America at the minute, but I intend using Time Machine to restore things, once I return to England.
Any idea what happened, or a better way of fixing the problem?

Does anyone have any advice? I'm in complete limbo until this is resolved.

And....that's your question? How to restore the apps? Sync your iPad with iTunes and the apps should be restored to your device. Or go to the purchased tab of the App Store and tap on Not on this iPad and download them again.

  • How to restore safari bookmarks after osi update

how to restore safari bookmarks after ios. update

The only way is to restore from a useful backup, if you have one.
If you sync the iPad to iTunes and use Time Machine regularly, you would likely have the appropriate backup to restore from. In that case:
Restore the iPad backup set from Time Machine from a date before you overwrote the bookmarks. The location of the backup is ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/ (you can get to it by pressing Cmd+Shift+G in the Finder and entering this path).
Connect the iPad, run iTunes and restore from the backup.
If you use iCloud Backup, then you can restore from iCloud and choose which date's backup you'd like to restore from. You can check if you're using iCloud Backup by opening the Settings app on the iPad, then going to the iCloud submenu and looking at the status right below "Storage & Backup", where it would say "iCloud Backup is off." (or "iCloud Backup is on.", as the case may be).
In any case, keep in mind that restoring from a backup means you lose all application data changes after the date of the backup.

How do I close apps after I have updated them? I have 30 apps saying open after I have updated them.
IPin other words, all of my updates are still showing on the screen after they have been updated.

The word 'OPEN' next to the name of the app doesn't mean the app is running. Instead, it is a button you can use to launch the App.
If you don't do anything, then the list will eventually disappear on its own, along with all those buttons saying 'OPEN'.

  • HT4061 How to restore my ipad after downloading itunes?

How to restore my ipad after downloading itunes?

Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
    Before restoring:
Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes.
    Back up your device.
Transfer and sync content to your computer.
    Restoring your iOS device
Connect your device to your computer.
Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes. Select the Summary tab, and click the Restore button.
    Click Restore.
After a restore, the iOS device restarts. You should then see "Slide to set up". Follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant.
If needed, restore your device from a previous backup.
If restoring does not finish successfully or if a restore error appears, see iOS: Resolving update and restore alert messages.
    Additional Information
If your device is continually restarting, not responding, or showing the Apple logo with no progress bar or a stopped progress bar, place the device into recovery mode and try restoring again.
Devices with cellular service should activate after a restore. If activation is not successfu, see the options below.
    Symptoms
Your iPhone may display one of the following messages when you attempt to activate it:
"Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable."
"The iPhone is not recognized and cannot be activated for service."
"iTunes was unable to verify your device."
    Resolution
Perform the following steps if you receive one of the messages above:
    Restart the iPhone.
Try another means of reaching the activation server and attempt to activate.
Try connecting to Wi-Fi if you're unable to activate using a cellular data connection.
Try connecting to iTunes if you're unable to activate using Wi-Fi.
    Restore the iPhone.
If you receive an alert message when you attempt to activate your iPhone, try to place the iPhone in recovery mode and perform a restore. If you're still unable to complete the setup assistant due to an activation error, contact Applefor assistance.
