HT201272 Movie Storage

So I just want to be sure I am reading correctly. If I don't want to store all my movie purchases on my computer, I can delete them and re-download later or even stream from iTunes?

That shouldn't be relied on; it's not available for all movies and in all countries, and can disappear for specific movies if Apple or the copyright holder decides to remove them from the iTunes Store. Put them on an external drive.

  • Movie storage maxed out

My movie storage on my Ipad is maxed out. I tried to download Peter Pan for the kids but got prompted not enough storage. How do you remedy this?
If I delete the other movies, can I download them at a latter date again from my past purchases? I already paid for them on Itunes is my concern and don't want to loose them. I am thinking that is the only solution.

    Conserve space on iPad
You should download movies to iTune (computer) and only sync them to iPad as and when you want to watch them.
After watching the movies, you can unsync the movie to make space for the next one.

  • Hyperion 9.2 move storage relational DB

    Hi,
Can anyone suggest what is the procedure to move storage relation DB server for Hyperion 9.2 with shared service, essbase and BI components?
Is it feasible as following steps:
    1. backup and restore all databases from old server to new server.
    2. reconfigure the new IP address, user name and password through configurator.
    3. confirm all "reuse existing data.." buttons.
    Any risk and checking steps?
    Regards,
    Kenneth

    1) Bi store report in RDB and file system - best way migrate - export reports to xml files and import
    2) Shared Service store in OpenLdap with BerkleyDB storage - best way migrate - export to xml :)
    3) Essbase work with native database and best way to migrate use export to flat files

    Ramy

    Hi Ramy,
I have reproduced this Warning when I move the replica VM (replica site ) to another folder .
(I also test that changing VM settings on primary site VM but it can not be sync to replica VM )
Based on my understanding , "moving the replica VM residing in replica site to another folder can not remove the VHD file of replica VM " the purpose of this behavior might be to protect the replica connection , because replica still
works after I moved the VM's VHD to another place .
I would suggest you to remove replica and re-configure replica if you want to change the replica path .
    Best Regards,
    Elton Ji

  • Movies Storage displaying Incorrect amount of used storage

When I checked my storage ( Via About This Mac) on my macbook I was surprised to see that it is "using" 102 GB in Movies. However, when I went to my finder and clicked "get info" on the movies tab, I found that is has only used 9 GB.
What surprises me most is that it was showing correct use of storage last week! Why is it showing such huge memory space and how can I fix this?

Download OmniDiskSweeper (free) from the Internet.  It will show all of you files and the respective sizes.  This may aid you in determining the discrepancy.
    Ciao.

  • What is the best video format for 50+ year movie storage?

Objective:  In what video format should I store my family movies on an external drive?  I want these family movies to be viewable by future generations in 50 - 70 years, so what video format / type is recommended?
Background:  I have an iMac, OS X 10.7.5.  I use IMovie '11, version 9.0.8.  My iMac has an internal DVD player and burner and iDVD is installed.
I have dozens of family movies (total 80+ hours) dating back nearly 70 years.  All these films have been digitized and I have imported many of them into iMove as events, then I edit them with title pages, transitions, music, etc.  When a "project" is completed (Between 1.5 - 2.0 hours or less) I share the project to iDVD where I burn it to a DVD.  Within iMovie I save each of these projects (on the internal Mac HD, which consumes very little space) and on an external drive I save for each project:
    - a disc image (DVD.img) whose size is about 4.5 GB
    - a copy of the iMovie project, whose size is about 60 MB (the original project is in iMovie, in the Mac internal drive)
    - the original digitized raw movies imported into iMovie as events and are formatted as .mov (these are large size at 8 GB - 20 GB each)
    - the finalized and fully edited iDVD which is formatted as DVD.dvdproj (these are very large size at 20 - 24 GB each)
As you can see with all these disc images, projects, events and DVD projects stored on my external drive I am at nearly 1 TB of storage, on my way to 1.75 before I comple editing all movies.
While I manage pretty well the editing my movies within iMovie, and how to create an iDVD project and then burn a DVD, I have no understanding of the technical aspects of the multitude of different movie formats in the market nor of Quick Time and its format.
I am told that DVDs will only last 10 - 15 years and then begin to deteriorate.  And iMovie '11 won't be arond 50 years from now.  Nor will the current / recent versions of iDVD.  Thus, for posterity:
    1.  In what format should I store my family movies on an external drive so they can be viewed by family members 50 - 70 years from now? (best chance for viewing, since we don't know what formats they will have then)
    2.  How do I convert from what I have (disc image, iMovie project, DVD project) to your recommended format?
    Thank you,
    HDP

There is no such format for movies or even Photographs. Frankly we can't guarantee the persistence of any format past the next 10 years, not to mind 50 - 70.
Codecs are being improved and created all the time, and this process will continue. In 50 years time we may still have .mov and .avi files, but the codecs that create the movies within will have changed.
One thing is reasonably sure: DVD will be as deader than floppy disks are now. Ditto Blue Ray. They're on the way out now, and in 10 years they'll be curiosities.
    So, what's the solution:
Best I can suggest is to keep your movies on volatile media like Hard Disks (with back ups on other disks, or course). Progress will be evolutionary - as new formats come along there will be the option to migrate older data to these newer formats, and that's the trick. As always, when it comes to migration, the more data available the better the likely result, so keeping your movies in the least compressed versions possible seems a good approach.
That and a dollar will get you a cup of coffee someplaces, but nowhere fashionable.
    Regards
    TD

  • ATV as a movie storage? How?

Here is what I am wanting to do, and don't know if it is possible. I am trying to backup all of my movie to an external drive, around 100 dvd's using handbrake. Once I get them in a ATV format, what is the best way for them to be fully integrated into ATV library.
    Here is what I have:
    Airport Extreme Base Station 802.11n
No desktop computer - only laptops
Apple TV (only if this will work)
    Plasma TV
    USB/FW External Storage - 750 gb
I do not yet have ATV, so please explain the details. Can I simply use my USB drive hooked up to my Airport Extreme Base Station and stream it that way?
    Please advise.

First you unless they changed sometime with the new update, you need to have itunes running on a computer to stream to apple tv. Unless you are running only off of what you have on the apple tv itself. Here is my setup.
    Lynksys Router
    Western Digital Mybook World NAS
Old Dell Laptop Computer Running Itunes - always on my media server
My apple tv accesses all my content from the laptop, which points to all
my movies on the NAS drive. All of this is wired, I don't use wireless. My drive is a 1TB drive. Have never had problems streaming. All movies load within a sec or 2 and play without interuption. I actually left out that I have mutiple Mybooks connected and all work fine.

  • Movie Storage using AppleTV

I am thinking about an ATV or actually two of them (one in the theater and one in the family room). I have a couple of questions. First a little background, I have an Imac and macbook with a Time Capsule I use just for backing up the computers. I have ethernet at both the locations I am interested in putting an ATV.
First questions is simple, can I have two ATV's on the same network?
Second, while I am probably not interested in ripping old stuff, if I start buying movies via Itunes, I would like to store them on another external hard drive and be able to access to both ATV's, is this practical? I guess I ask about external hard drives because I assume I will eventually fill up the ATV's.
Third, can one ATV access a movie on another ATV?
Finally, I am not interested in a real elaborate setup just something easy to use. Will ATV meet that objective?
    Thanks in advance

    yes, no problems with that.

the appletv cannot (and should not) be used as a primary storage device. it should only ever have copied of your media (not the only copy). anything you purchase on the appletv will auto sync back to your primary itunes library.
Third, can one ATV access a movie on another ATV?
no, appletv can only take stored content from your itunes library on a pc/mac.
Finally, I am not interested in a real elaborate setup just something easy to use. Will ATV meet that objective?
i'm sure it will assuming that you don't try to use it for something it wasn't designed to be.. ie a storage device or media server. the appletv is a client device and should be looked at as an ipod your tv.

  • RAC does not start after trying to move storage

    Hello,
We have a two nodes RAC Oracle 10g and ASM groups defined on one external storage.
RAC does not start after we reformated the storage to RAID 10.
    What we did:
    1) deleted the database
    2) reformated the external storage to RAID 10 and defined needed volumes for OCR, VotingDisk and ASM
    3) on both nodes
    - recreated VotingDisk
    node1:root$ /u01/oracle/product/10gr2/crs/bin/crsctl add css votedisk /dev/rdsk/c0t600A0B8000347E7D00000EE74A5AF386d0s3 -force
    Now formatting voting disk: /dev/rdsk/c0t600A0B8000347E7D00000EE74A5AF386d0s3
    successful addition of votedisk /dev/rdsk/c0t600A0B8000347E7D00000EE74A5AF386d0s3.

    Now formatting voting disk: /dev/rdsk/c0t600A0B8000347E7D00000EE74A5AF386d0s3
    successful addition of votedisk /dev/rdsk/c0t600A0B8000347E7D00000EE74A5AF386d0s3.
    - tried to move OCR but was able only on one node:

  • Movie Storage at 89.3gb - Can't find to delete

I took a look at the storage on my computer today and it says I have 89.3gb in movies.  Problem is I don't have any movies stores on my computer.  I made a few videos in imovie but then deleted them afterwards.  I also deleted the original movies files from my camera as well.  Where is this 89.3gb of movies and how do I find it to clean/reduce the amount of space being used?

Try doing a spotlight search for .mov, .mp4 or whatever extension your movies were.

  • How do I move storage to computer so I can free up space?

I have very little space left on my phone in order to do my download.  I have deleted some apps, and I purchased more space.  I have 19.5GB available on the cloud, but only 23MB available for updates.  What should I do?

iCloud storage is for back ups so thats nothing to worry about. Go to Settings>General>Usage to see what is taking up lots of room.
If you have a lot of photos & videos in your camera roll then you can import them to your computer and delete them from your phone afterwards to make more room:

    Hi johnsocj60,
It sounds as if you have your iTunes preferences set to copy your files into the iTunes Media folder when adding them to your library. You can change this preference by going to the iTunes menu > Preferences > Advanced > Uncheck the Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library. See this article -
Locate and organize your iTunes files

  • Can I move storage purchased under old MobileMe account to my AppleID account?

Can I transfer the extra storage purchased on my old MobileMe account to my AppleID account (which is my primary account for iCloud)?  If not, can I get a refund for the MobileMe storage to use toward my AppleID account?

This can't be done: and you aren't due for a refund because your MobileMe account was extended for free from the date of its last renewal coming due up to the service closing in July, so you haven't been paying for it.
As an ex-MobileMe user your migrated iCloud account (signed into with your ex-MobileMe address) storage has been extended by 20GB for free but only until the end of September - at that time it will revert to 5GB unless you purchase additional storage.
