  • Hello, i recently had to restore my laptop which means my previous itunes library is gone.  Before i restored my laptop, i saved my old library on an external harddrive.  So i was wondering if the was a way to get my old itunes library in the new library

how do you put music from ipod thats synced with another library on to a new library without erasing anything.  i recently had to restore m laptop to factory settings and of course my itunes is the same.  i have a lot of music and pictures and it would take days to redownload all of it.

    That is covered here:
iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
What kind of photos are you talking about?
Ones in the iPod's Camera Roll album are included in the iPod backup that iTunes makes. Photos synced to the iPod or not and they are not in your iTunes library either. You have to back those up separately.
Also the iPod backup that iTunes makes is not included in your iTunes library. It location is listed here:
iTunes: About iOS backups. So back that up too.

If your iPod is set to sync automatically with iTunes you need to take care connecting it to an empty library.
1). Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to sync automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
Alternatively open iTunes first and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and check the box "Prevent iPods and iPhones from syncing automatically" and choose Ok. Then connect your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are connected and your iPod is safely in manual mode there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. iTunes will only give you the option to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads etc) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
    iTunes & iPod software
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
A selection of iPod to iTunes utilities:
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • I'm trying to sync my ipad to the itunes library - but I get an error message saying I Tunes Library full.  What can I do?

I have an Ipad 2. I am trying to sync my ipad to the itunes library, but I get an error message - saying the itunes library is full.  How can that be? I've deleted lots from the library to see if that would help - but it still states I am about 25gb short.  Can anyone help what to do?

Could any of the music have been sourced on an external USB drive or a network drive? In iTunes, go to one of the songs that won't sync. Bring up the info page, and look at the location of that song on the disk. Does that file and path exist? That could be your problem, especially if they were on a USB drive you forgot about.

I have a new Mac with my i-tunes library on it, but it does not have a CD drive so I cannot add music from CD's with it.

  • Help in backing up my i tunes library

I am trying to back up my i tunes library and im running into a problem. I go to file and select back up to disc. I then select the back up entire i tunes library and playlists. I then insert a blank DVD-RW disc. The disc is 4.7gb and my library is 3.58gb. I then click back up. I tunes then says checking items for back up. when the check is complete i get a box that says items in this back up will not fit on one disc and do I want to backup to multiple discs. I have two options, data discs and cancel. When I select data discs it says burning discs...initializing then my disc pops out and I am prompted to insert a blank disc. When I re insert the disc I get checking for media and the disc pops out again and i tunes says it is checking media. I went to Edit, Preferences and Advanced. Under Burning I selected Speed Max Possible and Data CD or DVD and clicked O.K. I go through the steps again and have the same result. Any suggestions on how to back up my library would be greatly appreciated. I lost my library once and dont want it to happen again. Thank You.

I did it one simply by selecting my library, and clicking on the burn button. iTunes will ask for CDs (or DVDs) when the first one is full if your library is larger than the media you used.
For your flash drive the best would be to simply drag the iTunes library to it, that is, if it can fit in teh flash drive enterely (which mean you may not have a large library).

  • My home computer with my i-tunes library was destroyed in a fire. I have the entire library on a 164GB  i-pod and i'd like to know how to move this content back to a home computer so that i can access it with my other ipod/pad/touch devices. How?

How do I restore my library from an i-pod? My home computer with my i-tunes library was recently destroyed in a fire. I have the entire library on a 160GB i-pod that I bought a few years back. How should I go about getting this content back to a computer so that I can access it with my other ipod/pad/touch/phone devices?

You can't transfer songs from iPod to computer using iTunes, except for songs you purchased from the iTunes Store (and you can re-download any previous purchase from the iTunes Store Purchased screen).
However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer songs files from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your computer, drag the files (or the folder containing the files) to the iTunes window to add them to the iTunes library.

  • HT203167 ALL OF A SUDDEN MY ENTIRE ITUNES LIBRARY IS GONE!!!! WHY?????

ALL OF A SUDDEN MY ENTIRE ITUNES LIBRARY IS GONE!!!! WHY?????

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • When playing my i-tunes library through my hi-fi via Airport Express, how can I get i-tunes to play a single album and then stop, without continuing on through my entire library. It's a problem that doesn't occur when I'm listening through my i-pod.

    Hey everyone in Apple world!
I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP!  Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process.  Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal.  No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
(Note that I arrived at this solution when I first saw this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US)
Let me know if this works for you!

My I-Phone has music on it that was synced from an I-Tunes library from a previous computer (which is no longer in use) AND purchases from the I-Tunes store.  I would now like to transfer ALL of that music (not just the purchases from the I-Tunes store) into the I-Tunes library that I've established on a new computer.
Can that be done, and how (I've attempted without any success)?

Contact iTunes support and explain your situation to them.  They may let you redownload it at no cost.

If they don't, I'm afraid you'll have to purchase it again.  Sorry.

Long story short....I restored my computer to an earlier point using time machine and now all of the previous back-ups are gone. My question has to do with itunes...is it possible to restore my itunes library to the most recent backup because the restore that I did was in march and the latest backup was in may....the reason being is that there were app that i had downloaded that are in my most recent back-up, that were not in the backup I restored to. Is it possible to just restore one application ie)itunes?

  • Help, wrong i- tunes library. Most recent one is gone.

Help! I opened i tunes one day and it asked me to select a library. Thinking that I didn't want to create a new one, i decided to choose one. It said previous i- tunes library. I chose the one that was last month's but somehow, my most recent library has been lost. All of my recent purchases too. Any suggestions on how to fix it?

This JUST happened to me! Were you able to solve the problem?

Itunes loses library . I updated to 10.3.1.55 and i open Itunes and my entire library is gone,  put all the music back in itunes then next time i open it the library is gone again.I am using window 7 and after a few weeks of this it is driving me crazy.PLEASE HELP

I am afraid troubleshooting this is difficult if it is intermittent. That is why I suggested making copies of iTunes library.itl and iTunes Library.xml then you can restore these copies if the lirbary disappears. Then you only lose data since you copied them.
You can check for plugins by running iTunes>>Help>>Run Diagnostics. You don't need any of the check boxes ticked. Any plug ins will be shown.
Also you can run iTunes in "safe mode" by holding ctrl shift while starting iTunes. This runs iTunes without plug ins.
Think about other software that uses iTunes data - instant messaging that shows what's playing, and anything that might use the iTunes library.
If the problem occurs every time, you can use MSConfig to look for conflicts, but that is not feasible for an intermittent problem.
I would not expect to see a "saving library" message when closing iTunes, that does suggest that something may be slowing it down.
Are you using the default set up- for iTunes, that is everything on your c: drive or are you using an external drive or network drive?
