Novice or not, you takes your chances when you don't do a backup before an update. I rarely backup before an "interim" update, always backup before a major one. No one is going to be able to give you a definitive answer because when a problem happens, it is a random thing.
Since I have automatic iCloud backups going on regularly, I don't worry too much about a random failure. But, that is all it is - a random failure, and there is no way to predict it or to prevent it.
So, I think you will get the same answer from Support or from an Apple Store. Sorry there is nothing more specific, but that's the way it is.....

iTunes told me to delete my backup folder when I was having problems syncing my phone to my computer. After that it wouldn't work at all. After trying and trying I deleted iTunes when it said "iTunes could not back up iPhone because the backup could not be saved on the computer"and now it wont let me install it again and keeps saying "itunes cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in the cabinet ". What the **** itunes? Nothing is working!!
I wanted to update my iTunes so I could sync my phone to my computer and update my phones software so I can use the latest apps that need a 4.2 or higher.
This is not fun for me so if anyone knows what I can do to fix this please help. Is it possible to download the "cabinent file" with the lastest iTunes?

My phone is the iPhone4 and my computer is a Windows VistaI doubt that corrupt files are the problem. It is more likely a space or permissions issue. Is the hard-drive on which iTunes is stored close to capacity? Do you (or the particular user profile you have logged on with) have the requisite permissions to save to that drive?
Otherwise, do you get an error code? This might point us in the right direction. -

Normally they're restored to your iPad right after the upgrade.
If that didn't happen, you should find them in the App Store under Purchases. Restore them, but do that one at a time.
Or you can sync with iTunes on your computer, and they should be there. -

Go to Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars; select the account in question and check your settings. There are two separate settings for mail, incoming mail server for receiving mail, and SMTP for sending mail.
It could be that the mail process is stuck. Before doing as I said above, double-tap the home button to open the multi-tasking list. Locate the mail app and swipe upwards on the app thumbnail to force closed. Then do a reset on the phone, holding the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. After the phone reboots, then open the mail app and see if you receive your mail. If you receive an error message, make note of it and come back. -
I bought a ipod 5th gen 32gig off a road side peddler for $175. It was working when I bought it. I wonted to remove his music and stuff off of it so I restored it with itunes and now it wont let me activate it. I do not have his info and I do not know how to get in touch with him I have had third gen ipods and never had any problums like this before Help!!!

I know the phone is not stolen as i bought it new from an authorised dealer here in australia. It keeps telling me its linked to my icloud but wont let me do anything

The iPod cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library. (additional 26gb required)
This makes no sense because before the new itunes update there was no problem with me not having enough space. I have 5gb of free space now and I had 5gb of free space before I downloaded the itunes update. Nothing should've changed. And I should not need an extra 26gb of space. How do i fix this problem so I can my ipod normally again.On another post someone posted this. It's a way to fix the problem.

I recently updated my iphone 5 to IOS 8.0.2 and now it wont turn on it just says to connect to itunes and when i do the only option it gives me is to restore iphone because it is in "recovery mode". It says it will delete all my media but i didn't do a back up and i don't want to lose my photos, what should i do? (I never used iCloud to back them up either).
If it's in recovery mode, the data is already gone. Why did you never back up your important data?

I have tried everything to get the new 4.0 to open. I did the upgrade this morning and have been working on it all day, When I tried installing it several times FF was running so I closed it down via task mgr. I rebooted.. did everything I could think of. I really don't want to uninstall and lose all my info and settings, along with my add ons. I am defragging now, hoping that might help.
