If I erase all settings and content on my iPhone, and it's connected to iCloud, will it erase everything on my other devices as well?

It will erase your iCloud account so any changes shouldn't be reflected in iCloud. But to be safe, just go to settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account before erasing the phone. (This deletes the account from the phone only.)

An iPhone 3GS is too old to update to the very latest iOS and you will never be able to use apps that are compatible. The phone is just too old now in technology terms and the app makers have all moved on, so it's time to get a new phone.
Ideally, perhaps get an iPhone 4s or if you can afford it, an iPhone 5s or 5c which are the newest models.

Something has gone wrong, on an iPhone 4S the erase all operation should be almost instantaneous.
Turn your phone off. Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new. In your case, select "new".

Whilst the iPhone is connected to iTunes hold down both home and sleep buttons are the same time. The hold down the power button after and it should boot as usual

I can't erase all data and content from my iPhone 4s. It says iCloud account not verified, when it only asks for my Apple ID to erase all data and content.

It's really been puzzling me, I've never logged in the Apple site on a laptop before - I have been getting the same message 'Unable to verify iCloud account' every time I try and erase all data and content from my iPhone 4s. When I go to iCloud on my laptop and sign in using my Apple ID it signs me in. These are the same log in details I am prompted for when trying to erase all data/content from the phone. If anybody could point me in the direction that would be really appreciated. Thanks

Yes, I recently changed my Apple ID password - around 2 weeks ago when I bought the phone.
Does anyone know if you need to do the IOS update to be able to restore all data and content? I have not installed the new update on either of my iPhone 4S's yet.
The phone I am trying to reset was sold to me by a friend and when it was it had already been reset and it was on the language selection screen.

Erase all content and settings on the iPhone 5 should only take a few seconds. I suggest you reset the phone. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone should restart. After that, try the reset again.

HT201269 I need help after I backed up my iCloud on 5s and backed up on 3GS I erased the settings and contents on my 5s so as to restore back up from my 3GS but to my surprise all the music I sync through iTunes on my laptop to my 5 s is no more there.

Pls how do I get my music I downloaded from my iPad back on my 5s I thought backing up meant no item will be lost.

Music is not included with the backup for an iOS device, and erasing all content and settings on an iOS device has no effect on music in your iTunes library on your computer.
If music is missing from your iTunes library on your computer, restore if from your computer's backup.
If the missing music in your Tunes library on your computer was purchased from the iTunes Store, you can re-download the music without having to pay for it again.

Am trying to erase all content and settings on my iPhone 4 before selling it. I go to the "reset" menu, click the appropriate button, put in my passcode. It then asks for my passcode again, but when I put it in I get a "failed passcode attempt" message. Suggestions?

hi, i have iphone 5 and it's been 2 days that it is not ringing for incoming calls and the speaker option is not working while im speaking . the videos have no sounds . every day i recieved lots of missed calls. i checked all settings related and non related to the sound feature but non were working. i even reset it and erased and reset it but still have the same problem. what shall i do?

Have you checked the Mute switch on the left side above the volume buttons? And tried raising the volume with the buttons?

Is there a simpler way of erasing all the music from my iphone other than erasing all data and content?

Launch iTunes and plug you device into your computer. Select your device from the menu on the left and then in the window that opens select the Music Tab at the top. In the window that opens uncheck the Sync Music checkbox and then click Sync button in the low right side of iTunes. After the sync is complete your music will no longer be on the device.

IPhone crashed hard after 'Erase all settings and data'

I have a problem with my iPhone, which is further compounded by being out to sea in the Arabian Gulf, so no internet access. Anyways, my phone was acting up, and I read somewhere that if you erase all the setting it would fix it. My phone was being read on itunes on my computer as just 'iPhone' and wouldn't let me change anything, so the restore phone that way was out. Also, after it nuked, I gave it to a buddy of mine here on the ship, and he tried whatever tricks it could do with a mac. He gave it back to me unsuccessful. I updated my itunes to itunes 9 or whatever the new one is. So pretty much, when I turn my phone on, it is stuck at the opening screen with the little apple, until is resets and then does it all over again. If you plug it into a computer, it doesn't realize anything is plugged in. I am lost as to what to do with it, other than throw it over the side. Hopefully someone know what to do here. Thank you.
