HT201274 if you erase all content the iphone is unlock already?

my sister give me her old iphone, then i want to unlock it, if you reset the setting and erase all content, do i need to unlock it?

Unlocking the iPhone has absolutely nothing to do with resetting the device and erasing all content.  If you want your device unlocked from your carrier, you must contact the carrier to see if that carrier unlocks devices, and what you must do to qualify.

  • How do you erase all content and settings on my iPad? I've done this 11 time and it won't erase.

How do you erase all content and settings on my iPad? I've done this 11 time and it won't erase. I now have to wait 1 hour.

You are entering one of two possible codes incorrectly.
    1.  The device's passcode.  If you forgot it, here's the cure:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212
    2.  The Activation Lock (Apple ID and password).  Your Apple ID and password are now required to erase the device - an anti-theft measure.  Here's a writeup about that:

If you don't have the Apple ID and password, the device will never be able to be erased.

  • HT201274 Tried to erase all content and settings...now it won't do anything

I have a first generation iTouch and last night I selected to Erase All Content and Settings. I wanted to wipe it because I'm switching to an iPhone. The iTouch didn't have much charge so I started charging it while it was doing it's thing. Unfortunately, the iTouch doesn't do anything. When I hold down the power button, the white apple logo appears. It's been on a charger for several hours, too. When I plug it into my computer and open iTunes, the computer doesn't recognize the device.

Try connecting the device to iTunes in recovery mode and restoring it. See this article for instructions on putting your iPod into recovery mode.

  • Is resetting your iPod touch 5g through settings - general - erase all content the same thing as restoring your iPod when it's plugged in?

My iPod was randomly restarting itself but I think I fixed it by completely resetting the iPod through the settings

No. Restoring via iTunes reinstalls the entire iOS while Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content only deletes all user information.

  • HT201274 After using erase all content and settings what will the passcode be?

After using erase all contens and settings, will the passcode revert to 0000?

There will be no passcode. The phone will be returned to it's out of the box state. If you did not turn off Find my iPhone before wiping it, you will need to sign in with the Apple ID and password that the phone is locked with.

  • If you back up with iCloud can you erase all content and not lose anything?

i have backed up my iPod and wish too erase all the content and settings, will I lose my picture, apps etc?

Click here for information. Your applications and other iTunes Store content isn't in the backup itself but can separately be put back onto the device as long as it’s still in the iTunes Store or an iTunes library.

  • URGENT HELP - If you "Erase All Content and Settings" ...

is there any way that a phone store can check that you have done this if you are returning the phone for other issues? (i dont want them to know i have plugged it in)
and is there any way you can check there is nothing left on the phone? it is now at the start up screen for the iphone to setup

Umm... If your talking about a jailbreak yes they can check. There something called 'log data' on your phone which stores everything. As far as I'm concerned there is not a way to reverse it.

  • Erased all content from iPhone

Hi All experts out there - Over the weekend I deleted my wife's old iPhone from FindmyIphone - Well that's what I thought, turns out it was both her old and new phones. That would have been fine, we had most of our contacts, calendars, reminders and notes to the icloud, but not her photo's - we recently had a baby which she has now lost all. They were not in Photo steam, they were only in camera roll, are they all lost, also why does these photo's not go into Photo stream automatically or even every 24 hours?? It effectively made the phone think it was brand new, with not even language selected?
    Need your thoughts please!!

She needs to sync her phone to HER account on HER computer with HER iTunes library. Syncing with YOUR iTunes library does exactly what you described. By design.

  • I erased all content on iphone 3g.

i was about to sell my iphone to someone, and i didn't want any of my personal info
to be accessible.  so, i thought i was deleting all pics, etc... however it seems that
i deleted my entire operating system off iphone 3g.
all i see in itunes which is up to date, is that restore.  i click restore, and i always
get an error that it couldn't restore my device.
how can i install a new ios and get all apps back like on a originally new iphone 3g?
i didn't know to backup info from phone to itunes, so now what do i do?
please help me get my iphone back working.
    thank you!

Error 1015 indicates the phone was previsously jailbroken. If that's the case, you're hosed. We can't help you here. Discussing jailbroken devices is forbidden by the terms of use here.

  • If I backup my iPhone in iTunes then "Erase All Content and Settings", will I still be able to restore the iPhone?

I am asking this because my iPhone 4S is really starting to slow down. And I think is mainly due to the deleted text messages bug (i.e., they are still searchable in spotlight!), therefore not deleted off my phone and slowing it down. There are big delays opening up apps (especially Messages) and now, sometimes,  my phone won't even vibrate when texts come in. I also just want to completely wipe the slate clean and start fresh, but I still would like to save the SMS conversations I already have. So I guess what I am afraid of is wiping my phone then iTunes sees the phone as a completely new phone and not "Drew's iPhone" therefore making a restore impossible. Would this be an issue at all?? Thank you!

If you restore your phone as new - your text message will be deleted from the phone.
If you erase all contents and settings and then restore from a backup, your text message will still be there.
