can anybody help me with this. I find it extremely annoying that I have to restart the computer as the finder will not relaunch without doing so. I am new to Mac and have just purchased one last month and am having a few issues with it I would like to resolve.

ok so finder crashed on me again just before and I took a few screen shots to show you, I was copying files I had on my portable hdd into a folder on my portable hdd - I really don't think it makes a difference if im copying from my mac hdd or my portable hdd it still seems to do it sometimes

There are reports of similar behavour but generally it is due to battery connections. Is the indicator light working steadily or does it blink or even not function. Here is the Apple document dealing with some of the problems.

Is your machine within the guarantee period or under Apple care. If so, return it to any apple retailer for examination and possible replacement.

This sounds more like Word than Indesign. I've never been able to resize
a column in Word without messing up the column next to it. There's
probably a way to make Word columns behave properly; I just don't know
Word that well.
In Indesign, to make table columns act the way you're describing, you
must be either dragging the column wider from the left side; or (2)
holding down the shift key while you drag. Otherwise, making a column
wider just makes the table wider.
Try dragging from the right side without the shift key. You can also
select part or all of the column, go into the Table palette, and set the
column width exactly, by numbers (which is what I usually do, because I
like to make sure that my table adds up to exactly or less than the
width of the text column).
Sometimes I need to make my tables wider than the page, temporarily,
just so I can see everything in them and decide where I can lose enough
space to fit the whole thing on the page. Remember that you can reduce
cell insets, as well.

ICal 5 ... I quit and force quit and it will not stay closed!

I upgraded to the new OSX Lion ... since that time, iCal will not stay closed. I quit and force quit, but a couple seconds later, it opens again and appears on my dock.
Anyone else having this issue?

Harryc78091210 please check the activity monitor located in the Applications/Utilities folder. You can also restart the computer and then install Photoshop CS6.

Preview will not work. Have to force quit it. Will not work on Jpg or pdf

I tried sending the preview.plist to the trash and restarting the computer. It worked for a short time, now is back not working again. Could not find the file except in the trash. Any ideas how to fix? This has happened once before and it just started working again, but not this time.

How much RAM, how full is the hard drive, and what computer? 8 GB RAM is recommended, and I also recommend that you do not upgrade to OS 10.7 Lion at this time.

Airdisks crashing, Finder won't relaunch, only solution is to restart the computer. (Lion)

when I try to delete a folder with a locked file from my AirDisk, I get the spinning beachball and the foce quit won't relaunch the finder. Unplugging the airport doesn't help either. the only thing I can do it restart the computer.

there is no preventive maintenance for something like this. just don't unplug external devices before finder is finished with them.

Even under normal circumstances it takes a few seconds after exiting Firefox before you can launch Firefox again successfully.
But you're right, sometimes a zombie Firefox process lives on, consuming CPU cycles and memory long after all the user interface for it has disappeared. The zombie Firefox process blocks the launch of new ones. It's annoying, but there is a lighter-weight work-around than rebooting. If you key Del while holding down Ctrl and Alt (the old three-finger DOS reboot), either the Windows Task manager will pop up immediately or you can select it from a list of options. In the Windows Task Manager's Processes tab, you should be able to find "firefox.exe" in the Image Name column. (Left-clicking the Image Name column will sort the names alphabetically, and then you can scroll up or down looking for "f".) Left-click on that "firefox.exe" and then left-click the "End Process" box. A warning box should then pop up, asking if you're really sure you want to terminate the process. Answer Yes. Then wait a few seconds for disk activity to die down. Then re-launch Firefox as you would normally.

ITunes movies will not play-- prompt for me to authorize the computer

I'm running Mac OS 10.5.8, iTunes 10.6.3, and, if it matters, QuickTime 7.5.5.
My purchased songs work perfectly well.
When I try to play any purchased video content, I get an error message that this computer is not authorized to play this purchase. I'm then prompted to sign in with my Apple ID and authorize the computer, which I do (and indeed, have done many times before). I then get a grey screen, and video controls which show that the movie is playing-- but with no sound, and no video.
This happens with every downloaded TV episode I've tried. I have looked at various suggestions on this forum; I have tried authorizing it with an administrator account, as well as deleting the SC Info folder. I've tried deleting and re-downloading episodes after doing all these things. Nothing seems to work.

I've got the same problem. Can't find the song file on my computer at all. I did delete it from itunes, but when I go to the store it A - says I don't have any purchases, B - when I search for the file it doesn't show any re-download option (shows I own it though) and when I click play it gives the same error, indicating the file is still local.
There are a lot of these threads on itunes support. Obviously Apple doesn't give a flying crap if every thread has responses from people who can't fix it. I've learned my lesson and will never buy anything from Apple again.

If not, then it would look to be a fault with the keyboard. try cleaning the keyboard first with some compressed air. if that don't work then it would require another keyboard.

Printer goes through the motions of copying documents, but they are totally blank when they leave machine. I have new ink cartridges, and can print from computer?

Do you see a light come on, and the scanner bar move? In the meantime, I would recommend to do a hard reset, by going to this post, How to perform a Hard Reset, by . It is important that the printer's power cable is plugged directly into the wall outlet, and not a surge protector. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well. Try the copy again. I would also make sure, that you are using Genuine HP Ink Cartridges, and that none of the Cartridges are empty or low. Pre will not load emails (IMAP) unless I restart the phone..everyday!

When I bought the phone back in June, I set up my personal email as IMAP...it worked fine for months. Within the last two months or so my emails will not load all the time, now I am at a point of restarting everyday to get my emails synced. And maybe it will sync twice a day regardless of how many times I check for them.
Gmail account seems to work fine so I know it is a setting in IMAP that I need to change, but why now? Don't understand!

Have you tried removing that IMAP account and adding back. This clears many issues up.

Why can I not get through a whole session (20-30min) on Firefox without having to RESTART my computer?

Working in gmail and answering mail--or even accessing my bank accounts-- for more than a few minutes is not possible. Firefox takes me off the internet even as I am typing an answer and then I have to restart my laptop to resume. This happens EVERY TIME I am online in Firefox! I do not use another browser, so it is very annoying. The notice says "you have no internet access, check your connection." My connection is ALWAYS fine! Sometimes the error message comes up "OOPs error #001."

"OOPs error #001." is a google error when internet connection is lost. Browsers (including firefox) do not initiate, nor close the connection to your network - they only using system to send and receive data.
If you're being disconnected from the internet, that's something beyond Firefox and possibly beyond your computer.
Many things could go wrong. Milions of people are having problems to connect to the internet.
If you're not advanced user, I suggest seeking help from your ISP.

I went to icloud but it only govers me options to increase storage from my iPhone or a synced computer (mac or PC).

If the phone is offline there is no way to track it or send a message to it. You can place it in lost mode to lock it and send it a message (see http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mmfc0f0165), but this will not take place until the phone goes back online, if it ever does. If it does, you will get an email informing you.
