HT201303 borrowing a phone that has a passcode on it

I'm waiting for my new Iphone to come in so my sister lets me borrow her old one that AT&T already set up as my new phone on a simm card. I installed the simm card when I got home, then realized it had a passcode on it! Her son was using the old phone last and he can't remember the password.
I have read that you have to restore, but where do I restore from? Her account? I haven't had an iphone before so I have no backup.
Any help?? Would AT&T be able to do it for me?

If you can't remember the Passcode, you need to restore the device from the computer it was last synced by placing the device in recovery mode >  iOS: Unable to update or restore
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.
Yes, it would have to be from her account.

  • Will Apple Unlock a phone that has been reported as stolen?

Will Apple Unlock a phone that has been reported as stolen? My network provider has registered the iphone's IMEI as stolen; therefore I'm assuming that it will need to be unlocked by Apple...?

The Phone was not locked to a specific network provider .... as I purchased the phone independently.
I only have a SIM contract with the network provider, but the said that they would barr the SIM and then the phone using the IMEI. They said hat anyone wanting to use the phone would need to request an un-barr using the IMEI. Would request be made to my network provider .... can then then pass these details on?

  • How do I delete a song on my phone that has been downloaded from iCloud?

I listened to a few songs on my phone that were showing up from iCloud. However, it seems now that these songs have been downloaded into my library, though some of them I do not want there because they will play when I have my phone on shuffle.
I have gone to settings and turned off "Show all music" and on my computer, I've also turned of homesharing. I can swipe left to delete songs that I have put on my phone from iTunes library on my computer, but the songs that I listened to on iCloud will not delete, nothing happens when I swipe left. How do I get rid of them?

Go to the song list in the Music app, swipe across the title and tap Delete.  It will be replaced by an iCloud download symbol.  You can't delete this as it is a permanent record of your previous purchase.  However, if you don't want to see it, you can hide them using iTunes on your computer, as explained here: iTunes Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases.

  • Need help getting music purchased with one apple id to my new phone that has a new apple id

I used to have an ipod nano under one apple id.  I stopped using the nano and let my daughter use that apple id when she purchased an ipod touch.  I recently got an iphone and would like my music library on my phone.  I created a new apple id for my phone because when I used the old one one the phone it created problems with my daughter's ipod touch.  Is there any way to get my music onto my phone without making my daughter create a new id and taking back my old one. . . like opening up itunes and saving the music files to my computer's hard drive and then somehow importing them to my phone?  I'm grasping at straws here.   Any ideas are appreciated.
    Robyn

Thank you thank you thank you!!!  Here's what I got to work (for anyone else who might come across this post and have the same problem I did):
I saved the itunes music library (which contained all of the songs from my nano/old apple id) from my daughter's computer to a thumb drive and plugged it into my computer.  I opened up the thumb drive on my computer.  I dragged the music library located in the thumb drive to the itunes icon on my desktop.  I logged into itunes on my computer under my new apple id.  The songs showed up in the itunes library but not on the list of music or purchases located underneath my device name.  When I clicked on my device name to try and sync the music, my device name disappeared.  So I re-plugged in my device/phone and instead of clicking on the device name, I used shift and down arrow to highlight all of the songs in the music library and then I used my mouse to drag the blue highlighted area over to the word "music" located under my device name.  They immediately started syncing with my phone  I doublechecked my phone and they are all there!
Thank you, Lawrence for your helpful ideas.

  • I have an app on my phone that has a glitch.i want to get rid of the app so that i can re install it,but when i re istall,it comes from the cloud and still has the glitch. how do i remove an app from my cloud

I have an app that i want to get out of my cloud, can i do this ????? It has a glitch and wont work and when i come to re install, it comes from my cloud along with the glitch. Can anyone help ?

When you tap the iCloud download symbol it's downloading a fresh copy of the app from the App Store, not from your iCloud account.  (Your previous purchases aren't stored in your iCloud account, they are stored in the App store and can be redownloaded from there.)
If the app still has a glitch, try contacting the app developer.  Perhaps there's a problem with the app running with iOS 7.1.

  • How Secure is my iPhone/  provide automatic re-enable of a phone that has set do not disturb.

There are many articles about how smart phones can be hacked to do things not desired.  One I saw discussed recently is that a Smart Phone when turned on
can be send codes to put it in eavesdropping mode where the phone is asking as a transmitter of what is said near it to a phone connection opened by the codes
    sent to turn it on.
One workaround suggested in some discussions was to require everyone to remove the battery from their phone so there is no power for eavesdropping.  Obviously this won't work on an iPhone since the batteries are not removable.  Does the phone provide protection from having eavesdropping instructions from being sent to it?  Is there a way to temporarily disable the phone so it won't respond to such attempts?  If the phone is fully shut down (hold the button down until the turn off option appears and you slide the slide bar to turn it off.  Will it still respond to signals sent to it via the telephone connection or blue tooth link?  Is there a simple way to turn off that capability which allows the user to turn it back on easily when in possession of the phone?
There is a feature to disable receiving calls or messages during a period selected in settings where you give the start and stop of the do not disturb function.
However, I find Do Not Disturb sadly lacking.  If I go into  meeting for theater and am asked to silence my phone Do Not Disturb seems perfect for that need.  However the next morning when my coworkers ask why my phone is disabled, I have to admit I forgot to turn it back on.  What I really need is an option from the easy settings to disable no longer than 2 hours (length of the meeting, concern, movie, dinner party, etc.  then I do not need to remember to turn it back on.
If I set the start and stop time for the do not disturb option for now, if I don't remember to clear it, mu phone will re-enable at the right time but the next day it will go "dark" for the same interval even if I am free.  Was this feature ever tested using real people doing real life situations?  I found holes in the design and easy ways Apple could fix them.  But they keep ignoring my suggestions.
It seems if a feature idea did not come from the design team, the design team does not deign to read and evaluated decent ideas from customers.  I have talked with a number of long term iPhone users who would like such a feature.  I don't know if the competition is doing anything like it.

This is a user-to-user support forum. A good place for suggestions to Apple is https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

  • Will the apple store fix a phone that has been dropped and will no longer turn on?

I dropped my iphone. The screen shattered, but the phone worked for about 30 min. After 30 minutes the phone won't turn back on.  I can tell that the screen is loose from the housing on the upper left side of the phone. The phone is an Iphone 6 16gb gold.

Take it to an Apple Store and avail yourself of the out of warranty replacement option.

  • How do you restore an ipod touch that has a passcode lock on it that was a previous owners ipod and was recently purchased

Hi, I just purchased an ipod touch for my son and it had been opened so there was a discount on the phone, now it won't open because the person who had it before put a passcode on it and I can't get it to show up in itunes. How can I just restore it and start fresh? Do I have to take it into an apple store? Thanks for the help.

Place the iPod into recovery mode using the instructions in this Apple support document and restore it factory settings.

  • How do i wipe a phone that has been registered with another itunes account?

I have several users who have upgraded their company phones from 4/4S to new 5/5S devices.  They used their personal iTunes account to register the phone.  Now when I try to do a restore and wipe the device of the device, it won't let me without the previous user's Apple ID.  Is there a way around this?  One of the phones I am trying to wipe, the user is no longer with the company and I don't know how to get ahold of them.  Is that phone just useless now?

You will need the user's Apple ID and password, or you will need to get them to go into iCloud and erase the iPhone. If you can't get in touch with a user, then your only hope will be to contact Apple Support. I've read from others that with proof that your company owns the iPhone there is something they can do to help, but that's not confirmed.
This is the problem with allowing users to set up Find My iPhone with personal Apple IDs. You should set them up with a company-controlled ID for iCloud so as to avoid this problem.
    Regards.

Also again i've seen some phones with 1000 Contacts (Names) and the Sim card holds 250 Contacts so it'll add up to 1250 Contacts, Not sure if there is more than that though Message Edited by 6280 on 21-Mar-200704:09 PM

how can you get your passcode off ipod when you can't remember the numbers?

Connect the iPod to its syncing computer and restore via iTunes. If iTunes asks for the passcode and you can't enter the passcode or you do not have the syncing computer, place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore. For recovery mode see:
