When you create an Apple ID for any of these stores, you will need to provide a payment method for purchases. The available payment methods vary by country, but typically you can use:
Credit cards
iTunes Cards

Store credit (including Allowance Account balances)

PayPal
In countries where the iTunes Store only sells apps, the accepted payment methods are Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. If None is not available - On your computer launch iTunes and click "iTunes Store" in the left navigation pane. Click the "down arrow" next to your name at the top right side of the page and click "Account." Enter your username and password and click "View Account" to log into your account information. Next to your Payment Type, click "Edit." Select the "None" button and click "Done." Confirm that your card has been removed by returning to the Apple account information screen. Under Payment Type, it should say that there is no credit card on file.

How can I access free apps without a credit card?
I'm trying to create an Apple ID for some elderly folks that want something as simple as checking the weather and potentially other free apps but at no point can I create an account without a credit card, an idea that's very bad for folks that are not at all technically savvy.
Various guides suggest there's a 'none' option for payment type if you attempt to create the account with the need to obtain a free app in the app store but this option does not exist, we only have three credit card options. If I change to USA, I have more options like Paypal but none of them is 'none'. Also tried the UK, still didn't work.
Can anyone advise me as to how we can 'review terms' without entering a credit card? It's difficult for me to explain they can't do as much as they want to do with their new $400+ purchase because they need to use their credit card for authorization.Edit : your last reply appeared as I was typing this.

If you update the primary email address on the account that you've already created then you should be able to try using to create another account - you can change the primary email address by logging into it via http://appleid.apple.com, or by logging in via the Store > View Account on a computer's iTunes. You can create a 'throw-away' email account to put on the existing account via http://gmail.com or http://hotmail.com
I'd be surprised if the info that you've just been given about gift cards or credit cards is correct, iTunes gift cards aren't available in a lot of countries (and they are country-specific) and a lot of people don't have credit cards - they'd effectively be preventing a lot of people form having accounts. -

So I signed out of my existing account (tried this in itunes store and app store, on my mac and ipod touch) then signed in with new ID, can't get past the credit card request. I don't get the none option, on the touch i don,t get the pop up scrolling window with all the options.
I want this seperate account so my son has the freedom to download free games etc on his ipod touch without access to my creditcard. -

Have you already established an Apple ID, or are you balking because of the credit card issue? It is my understanding that you can get the Apple ID by specifying NONE when they ask for the credit card information. You should then be able to download free stuff.
Later, if you try to buy something, you will then need to provide a method of payment. One alternative may be to add a gift card to your account. I've seen them for sale at Walmart. That way you can buy things without any worry about someone stealing your credit card information.
See <redeemLandingPage> for gift card terms and conditions. It will open up in your iTunes program.

I got this iPod touch for my birthday and I really wanted to get cranking on getting free apps. I had made an account and everything, and it keeps asking me to finalize my payment plans. The thing is, is that i dont have a credit card. And all i want is free apps. So what can I do, because there is no "none" option on iTunes 10.4 to indicate that you dont have a credit card. I tried making a new account, and I selecting a free app then going through the process hoping to find the "none" option, but nothing has worked.

I just received a new iphone and want to try out some of the free apps on the app-store. i'm used to being able to download free apps w/o itunes within the Droid enviroment. This seems complicated with having to install itunes, and having to enter credit card/pay-pal information just to be able to use some 'free' apps. @Limnos - that doesn't work anymore. There is no NONE option. I've been at it for hours trying to set up my daughter's account. I've tried creating and verifying an appleID on the web, on her touch...everything. Every single time you get to the stupid Touch, it wants to walk you through the verification of the account and it demands payment (even for their suggested apple Remote method listed in the KB).

Thanks SniperKat but I don't know why for some reason the "NONE" disappeared...
I started to create an account and when I saw the credit card thing I just clicked back and back and so I closed the browser... every free app or something free I get it appears a window : " You have to review some of your information about your account" .... but I don't have an account yet because I didn't create it.... the only solution is to create a new e-mail account and go to iTunes store and create a new account with the new e-mail and be very carefull with the "Free app" this time... -
