How do I restrict my children from purchasing in-app coins, etc. on their devices?

In the devices "Settings > General > Restrictions", if telling them not to do it isn't working. Most Apps providing in-app purchases tell you within the app's description.

  • How to convert mp4 videos (HD) for use on the new ipad in imovie without a mac.

    Hi,
Please help. I have many videos taken with my sony cybershot camera (Mpv4 (HD)). I have the new ipad and have downloaded imovie. I have converted the videos so they can be viewed on the ipad but imovie will not recognize them. I have a Pc (not a Mac) and have watched many youtube tutorials on how to convert my videos for use on the new ipad and imovie but so far no success.

If you are on the PC there are a LOT of video converters you can use. One of them is Freemake: http://www.freemake.com/
It's free, no ads or banners, clean interface, simple to use, and you can convert to various formats with ease.

  • HT201304 How do i create a profile for my iPad. so i can have a profile and my children can have their own profile?

I need help with reating profiles on my ipad. Can someone please tell me how you creat profiles. I would like one profile for adults and one for chidlren.

You can't create different profiles or user accounts on the iPad. It was not designed that way. It was designed as a single user device - no matter what you see in the TV commercials.
You can use passcode lock the iPad, you can set up restrictions in order to prevent purchasing of apps, prevent changing mail accounts, dsiable using FaceTime, using Safari and you can age restrict some content as well in the restrictions.

  • HT201304 If you set restrictions to on for your ipad or iphone & you set the password restriction to immediately for in-app purchases will it ask you for your password every time you make a purchase over a certain time period or just the first time you us

I am setting restrictions on my iphone and my ipad for my four year old son as he somehow purchased an app for $99 unbeknowst to me.
Does anyone know if you set your restrictions to ON, there is a setting that is called "Require Password" and there are two choices to choose from
"immediately" or "15 minutes". What I want to know is if my son asks me to purchase an app that costs $1 and I let him purchase it. Be entering my passcode
will it not ask him for any future purchases or an in-app purchase where they tend to rip you off. I want to ensure that it asks for a password every single time anything is purchased whether it is an in-app purchase or an app. I am unsure what the difference is between choosing immediately or 15 minutes on this specific Restrictions setting. Thank you.

    Settings>General>Restrictions>Allowed Content>In-App Purchases>Off. Then: Settings>General>Restrictions>Allowed Content>Require Password...set this to "Immediately".
Doing the above will accomplish what you want.

  • How do I restrict pdf from opening in iBook on company iPad?

Our company doesn't allow (for Compliance reasons) to have the PDF open in iBooks.  We would like to restrict the iPad users in our company an option to open the pdf in iBooks and only be given an option to open in 'Quick Look'.  How can we achieve that?  I see that iBooks app is installed by default with the iOS and can't be deleted.  Please advice

I think what you're referring to here is the Resume feature.
When choosing Restart, Sleep or Shutdown there is a checkbox you can uncheck to prevent the apps from launching.
Also in System Preferences > General there is a hard-to-find checkbox under "Number of recent items" you can turn off.
Also, you can hold the shift key to disable resume on a one time basis.
You can turn off Resume globally by going to ~/Library/Saved Application State/Notes and delete that file…
(note that the User Library is hidden - one way to get there is to go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key to choose "Library")
To turn off autosave and versions globally
If you're experiencing slow opening apps or windows since upgrading to ML... as I have... and you don't want your OS to automatically save your TextEdit files, etc. then simply disable Autosave and Versions via Terminal.
If you don't want autosave or resume you can copy & paste this command into Terminal at the prompt...
defaults write -g ApplePersistence -bool no
    Press return
    Now reboot.
    The reverse would be "yes".

  • How do i set time limits for my children on an ipad and ipod

    how I set parental restrictions

That's not a feature of the iPod or iPad. Or the iPhone for that matter. The most effective way is to take it away from them when they're not supposed to be using it.
If you don't want to do that, investigate the capabilities of your router to set time limits for specific devices.

  • Looking for a "kid mode" on iPad Mini

I have an iPad Mini that I purchased for my work. When I get home at the end of the day, I'd like to be able to hand it over to my 4 year old to let him play some educational games or watch kid shows on Netflix. However, I don't want him to be able to go into the web browser, look at my calendar, email, Google Drive, etc. (Really, I don't need my 4 year old rearranging my schedule.) I've read about many apps that will lock down a folder with a password. However, that takes too much time when I'm using the iPad for work, because I would have to continuously unlock and open up that folder to get to my work stuff. I would prefer something like "Restricted Mode" in the Settings, but I'd like it to also restrict specific apps, like Google Drive. This lets me leave the iPad in unrestricted mode - without the constant passwords, while I'm working, and lets me put it into a password protected mode, while the little one has the iPad. Is there an app or a setting that does something like this (again, it needs to block specific apps, like Google Drive)? Another option would be something that allows multiple users with different home screens and settings.

The short and simple answer to your question is that there is no way to lockdown specific apps on the iPad. You are limited to using whatever restrictions are available in the settings to block whatever you can block in there. Using restrictions requires a password to get into and out of it as well.
There is no setting for multiple users either on the iPad. It wasn't designed for multiple users and it still does not allow for multiple user accounts. Leave feedback with Apple if you like.
